Abstract

Joint Development Associates International, Inc. (JDA) began humanitarian relief and community development in Central Asia in1992, following the collapse of the former Soviet Union. Appropriate technology has played an important role in their efforts to assist those segments of society that are most vulnerable to poverty and disease. Three case histories are described to illustrate the successful implementation of simple, but effective technology in community development.
