Alexander Brinton Coxe was born in Philadelphia, Pa., Jan. 19, 1838, the second of five sons of Hon. Charles Sidney Coxe and Ann Maria Brinton. A more extended history of his family and its important relations to the development of the United States will be found in my Biographical Notice of his younger brother, Eckley B.
