Abstract

QUESTIONS: ?? Is it more expensive to find an ounce of gold in Canada today than 50 yrs ago? ?? Did the Canadian gold industry find more gold than they mined? ?? What is the future sustainability of the Canadian gold industry? ANSWERS: ?? The gold discovery costs in real terms only increased slightly from 1946 to 2000. ?? Though the Canadian gold industry mined more gold than they discovered in the period, when undeveloped deposits are taken into account, the deficit was merely 12 million ounces. ?? The Canadian gold mining industry would be sustainable in the foreseeable future, particularly, given the overwhelming predicted promising gold market in the mid/long run.
