Abstract

Manchuria in General Manchuria, called the "Three Eastern Provinces" in Chinese, forms the northeastern corner of China and is bordered by Siberia on the north and northeast, and by Korea on the east. It is a land famous in Chinese annals as the place of origin of the Ching dynasty, and in more recent times it has been an arena for diplomatic maneuvering and commercial competition between the Russians, advancing from the north, and the' Japanese from the southeast.
