Abstract

This paper will concern the processing of kaolin clays from the sedimentary deposits of Georgia and South Carolina, While the major processing steps will be touched on briefly, emphasis will be given to the dewatering of the clay-water slurries (slips) formed in the processing of kaolin clays The dewatering steps discussed will include gravity settling, centrifugal dewatering, vacuum filtration, and thermal dryings Of these dewatering steps particular attention will be given to vacuum filtration and the variables affecting filtration of these kaolin clays.
