Abstract

The proposed paper will address specific transport, engineering, environmental and community related issues concerning the current construction and future operation of Europe’s biggest urban road tunnel project—the US$500m Dublin Port Tunnel. Situated in Ireland’s capital, the three mile long, 40 ft diameter twin tunnel project encounters a range of ground conditions using TBM, Shield, Cut & Cover with diaphragm walling and major slope stabilisation and Multi-jacked pipe techniques. Where possible units of measurement are given in feet and inches.
