Abstract

The paper outlines the basic procedure used in electrical system planning and design. Consideration is given to the use of applicable codes and standards, development and use of a system One Line Diagram, power availability, load requirements and power factor. Also discussed are the factors influencing the selection of power supply and distribution arrangement, voltage levels, system grounding, distribution and utilization equipment such as switchgear, transformers, motor control, cable systems, motors. Short circuit calculation methods and system protection are discussed.
