Abstract
The paper outlines the selection of a dewatered tailings backfill system for the Johannesburg Consolidated Investment Gold Division, and covers the following aspects: (i) 16 Shaft pilot testwork; (ii) engineering design problems relating to the Cooke 3 Shaft backfill operation; (iii) in-line mixing - applications with respect to the Randfontein Estates Gold Mine and Western Areas Gold Mine backfill operations; and (iv) pipeline friction losses.
