Abstract

The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) project is authorized by legislation to provide a demonstration of the safe disposal of radio- active wastes generated by the national defense programs and activities of the United States. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proceeding with the implementation of the WIPP project in accordance with the "Department of Energy National Security and Military Application of Nuclear Energy Authorization Act of 1980" (PL 95-164).
