Abstract
The principal results from a previous paper presented at the Mine
Accident Prevention Association of Ontario in 1987 (1) are summarized
here. It is concluded that the selection of explosives in mines
experiencing sulphide ignitions is important and that aluminized
explosives should be avoided because of their high explosion temperatures
and their detonation products. The duration of the blast is also critical
and secondary blasts should not occur simultaneously with nearby priroa:ty
blasts.
