Abstract

"This paper will touch several of the topics covered by SDIMI 2005, including,• Sustainability indicators for the minerals industry, • Best practice of sustainable development in the minerals industry, • Social contributions,The complex issues of a company’s "sphere of influence" and "complicity" are important to every discussion of business and Human Rights. The paper will argue that to protect and promote Human Rights needs to be regarded as an integral part of sustainable development policies for the minerals industry. This implies a need for explicit inclusion of Human Rights indicators among the indicators to be applied by the minerals industry."
