Abstract

The Ottoman law, which was in force in Palestine before the British con- quest of the country (1917-18), still forms the basis of the legal system. Nevertheless, with respect to mining, legislation has been considerably re- vised since the British occupation and mandate, some of the Ottoman laws having been either radically altered or wholly abolished, in order that the legal status of Palestine might be more in harmony with that of western States.
