Abstract
This report is the fourth of a series of annual summaries of research and technologic work on coal by the Technologic Branch of the Bureau of Mines. The coal research program of the Bureau has been broadened and made more flexible to adapt it to changing conditions and needs of the coal industry, and as a result information as to the properties and composition of coal has been increased and new and improved practices in mining, preparation, and utilization of coal have been devised.
