Abstract

Use of contractors to excavate, load and haul mined material is widespread in Australia. It is also becoming a common practice in many other countries. The paper reviews current practices in Australian contract mining. Various types of contracts are reviewed, including partnering arrangements and alliancing between the contractor and the mine owner. Applicability of various types of contracts to specific mining situations is discussed, as is their impact on overall mine performance
