Abstract

The paper addresses the problem of the high costs of accidents ad how AMAX Inc. - a diversified natural resources company - has managed to control its losses through a tri-thrusted approach of: (1) management commitment, (2) methods of implementation that are tailored to each division or local unit, and (3) a reward system for outstanding performance. Specific attention is focused on the Corporate Loss Prevention Department's "10 Point Program for Loss Prevention Management".
