Abstract
SEVERAL new XGa2 intermetallic compounds, Table 1, where X is a rare earth, having the AlB, structure were prepared as part of a continuing study of the magnetic and structural properties of rare-earth alloys.' In this note, the crystallographic results of these compounds are presented. Chart, Eq. 121 for the data in Fig. 1 can be adequately represented by The corresponding standard free-energy change is AF; = -4.576 T log K = -20,900 + 10.20T [5I At low nitrogen concentrations the ratio of mole fraction to weight percentage is a constant so that the mole fraction X of nitrogen is given by X = 0.0392 [%NJ. At low values of X, the activity and the concearation approach each other, hence K, = 0.0392 K,, where K, is expressed in terms of the mole fraction of nitrogen. Hence Eqs. [4]. and [5] become
