Abstract

The paper reports on the results of a kinetic study on the oxidation reaction of aqueous free cyanide ions with H202, in the presence of Cu(2+) catalyst. The variables and respective ranges studied were the following: (CN) ° = 10 -100 mg/l pH = 10 -11 (H202/CN) mol ratio = 1 -3 (Cu/CN) mol ratio = 0 -0.25 The results lead to the development of a semi-empirical model whish incorporates both the useful oxidation reaction and the parallel alkaline decomposition of H202.
