Longwall Lighting

This paper describes the present state-of-the-art and status of longwall lighting in the U.S.A. Specific subtopics discussed are as follows: review of MSHA lighting regulations and requirements for longwalls; overview of available lighting hardware; installation procedures and costs; analysis of installations to date, including operator and management acceptance, complaints, benefits, and maintenance considerations.
