Abstract
The history, operation and design of the Secor continuous rod production process is described. The effective operation of the plant is influenced by accurate monitoring and control of molten metal properties, mould release application, coolant application and composition and correct setting of all operating parameters. The continuity of operations, which is an essential feature of this type of plant, is also greatly influenced by the service life of wear parts in the operation. This paper deals with three principal wear parts which come into direct contact with copper during operation, these are:
