The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Red Line Extension Northwest is nearing the final stages of construction. The 3. 1 mile extension of the Red Line from the existing Harvard Square Station in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Alewife Brook Parkway in Cambridge, includes a large, near surface, hard rock, rapid transit chamber at Porter Square in Cambridge (Figure 1).
