Abstract

To determine the best materials handling system for surface mined materials, one must develop a mine plan for each candidate system based on the most efficient use of that system. This is essential for a fair, unbiased economic compari¬son of the candidate systems. This paper will present two case studies where an integrated mine planning /systems engineering approach has been utilized at different levels of detail in the analysis of an in-pit crushing/conveying system vs. total truck haulage at 2 open-pit copper mines.
