Abstract

"The use of current electronic technology in the design of new underground mine communications equipment is providing improved and expanded voice communications which can, in turn, contribute to improved productivity and safety. A review of equipment that is now available or under development Includes the following categories:WIRED SYSTEMSI.Pager phones with selective calling, audible and visual alerting and message indicator.2. Mufti-conversation pager phones that use multiwire cable ormultiplexing techniques.WIRELESS SYSTEMSLow-and medium-frequency inductive systems utilizing ""near"" magnetic fields for both vehicular and personal communications.Wired SystemsCommunication systems in underground mines have evolved slowly in many parts of the world. For many years, magnetotype telephones were the only means of communication from one mine level to another and to the surface. These units were located near the shaft and communications to the working areas were limited."
