J. K. EVELETH, Anaconda, Montana (Communication to the Secretary): Partly for the reasons which Mr. Jones enumerates, and partly because of the presence of copper in greater or less quantities in so large a proportion of the ores throughout this region, I have also found Marguerite's method the most convenient and satisfactory for the determination of iron. In order to avoid the previous precipitation of the copper with H2S on the separation of the iron by means of ammonia, with the consequent necessity for re-precipitation
