The Nitrates being largely soluble in water play but an unimportant r81e i~ Mineralogy. SODA NITER. Rhombohedral. Axis c = 0.8276; rr" 1071 A 7101 = 73' 30'. Homeo- morphous with calcite. Usually massive form, as an incrustation or in beds. Cleavage: r (1011) perfect. Fracture conchoidal, seldom observable. Rather sectile. H. = 1.5-2. G. = 2'262.29. Luster vitreous. Color white; also reddish brown, gray and lemon-yellow. Transparent. Taste cooling. Optically -. w = 1'5874, e = 1'3361. Camp. - Sodium nitrate, NaN03 = Nitrogen pentoxide 63'5, soda 36'5 = 100.
