Abstract

MOST of the commercial colored gold alloys for jewelry applications are based on the Au-Ag-Cu-Zn system. Although work has been done on the constitution of the Au-Ag-Cu system.'-4 there are no reports in the literature on the effects of zinc additions in these alloys. We have metallographically determined the a =al + a2 transformation temperatures in 91/2- and 131/2-karat alloys in which varying amounts of zinc have been substituted for copper and silver. Samples were cast in the form of 1/2-in. round bars
