Abstract

"The author discusses the growth in the use of ocean-going bulk carriers for the transportation of mineral commodities, and predicts future trends. The various types of tonnage carriers are described, along with the special discharging gear used, the costs involved and the duties of some of the personnel.THE FIRST CONSIDERATION in planning the ocean transportation of minerals is the type of vessel to be utilized. The modern 'Bulk Carrier' bas proved to be the most successful vehicle for the purpose. I would there-fore like to describe this fleet in some detail and at-tempt to show the impact that the bulk carrier bas bad on the movement of bulk materials."
