Abstract
The selection of roasting technology is a complex task which is primarily dependent on the ore mineralogy. Key roasting parameters are directly linked to mineralogical characteristics of the feed and vary considerably between different ore types even in the same deposit. In addition to sulfide refractoriness, other refractory conditions frequently exist. Together with various mineralogical features of the feed, they may complicate roasting testwork and process design.
For most roasting scenarios, the critical economic factors are gold recovery, capital cost and environmental performance. This paper will show how these economic factors are influenced by the mineralogical ore characteristics.
