Abstract

The use of oxygen breathing apparatus during rescue and recovery operations at both coal and metal mines has become so commonplace that there is a tendency for the industry not to give such apparetus the full measure of credit that it deserves in any particular disaster , therefore , the data presented herein should give some idea of what has been done in this regard during the past 15 years that is , up to 1910 by the Technologic Branch of the U. S. Geological Survey , and thence ( to the end of 1922) by the U. S. Bureau of Mines .
