Abstract

[The discovery of many oil fields in Illinois since 1936 and their rapid development have brought tine problem of brine disposal to the foreground in that State. The ultimate magnitude of the is not yet known, but already it is great enough to warrant technical investigation. The Bureau of Mines, therefore, has made a general survey of the methods of handling oil-field brines in Illinois and has studied in detail three subsurfaces disposal systems.]
