Abstract
Plastometric tests were made to determine the maximum thickness of the
plastic layer for different U.S. coals . The effect of test variables on the
maximum thickness of the plastic layer was studied . The values for the maximum
thickness of the plastic layer were found to be related to the Gieseler
maximum fluidity , plastic temperature range , free swelling index , and other
plastic properties of coals . Only a general relationship was observed between
the plastometric parameters obtained in these tests and the coking properties
of coal .
