H. M. BOYLSTON, Cambridge, Mass.-We should feel greatly indebted to Mr. Miller for collecting this admirable series of photographs, but I cannot quite agree with his conclusions as to their significance. He apparently concludes that these needle-like constituents which he has shown in a good many cases, in the welded material at least, are cementite; that is, as we understand it, a carbide of iron.
