Abstract

The gold deposits of Kalgoorlie are the most important on the Precambrian shield of Australia. Gold was first discovered.'-:.V. ,,.,.-,..Kalgoorlie in June, 1893, and olthough`the original find was of ;:...;;small extent, the prospecting activity which stemmed from it 'led to'the ciscovery.of the lodes of the Golden Mile, some three miles to the south. Th¬ production of thea1algoorlie fiold.a.t December 31st, 1962 was 80,556,572 tons -for -33.,853, 215 ounces of gold. Most of this production has come from the Golden Mile area anu Table 1 summarises the Gplueh Mile. production for periods which correspond approximately to the main phases of operation of the field.
