The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Red Line Extension Northwest is currently in the early stages of construction. The 3.1 mile extension of the Red Line from the existing Harvard Square Station in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Alewife Brook Parkway in Cambridge, Massachusetts will include a large, near surface hard rock, rapid transit station chamber at Porter Square in Cambridge (Figure 1).
