Abstract
IT has been known for almost a century' that silicon and nitrogen combine when heated to a high temperature. Three nitrides have been reported, SiN, Si3N,, and Si,N, containing 33.3, 40.0 and 42.9 pct nitrogen by weight, respectively. The existence of SisN, is well established but that of Si,N, and SiN is doubtful.
