Abstract

"This paper, in presenting the results of the application of the assessment centre method at Texasgulf Canada Ltd., illustrates a novel "" in-use"" technique for manpower training in the mining industry.IntroductionMining history is full of examples of what goes wrong when human judgment fails-disasters, floodings, loss of life and property. We must, therefore, assume the importance of selecting competent people for supervisory responsibility. This article de scribes a method for assessing supervisory ability, its first application in Canadian mining and the result s obtained over the past six years. It is known as the assessment centre method."
