Abstract

The Kivcet process is technologically the most advanced of the new lead smelting processes which have been developed over the past decade construction of the first commercial scale Kivcet lead smelter which has been designed by KHD Humboldt Wedag for Sociedad Complejo Metalurgico de Karachipampa is at present nearing completion in Bolivia. Some of the measures taken to minimise emission of harmful elements as well as methods employed to minimise energy consumption in the design of the smelter, are presented. Results of recent testwork which have added to the flexibility of the process are summarised.
