Abstract

At the eastern end of the Mesabi Range, 70 miles due north of Duluth, is the vast plant of Erie Mining Co. Operated by Pickands Mather G Co. for the mine's four owners-Bethlehem Steel, Youngstown Sheet and Tube, Inter- lake Iron, and Steel Co. of Canada-Erie Mining Co, has earned just fame as a pioneer and a leader in the mining, beneficiation, and agglomeration of the lean iron ores of the Lake Superior district. Here is the story of Erie and the integrated operations that have made it such an outstanding member of America's iron ore industry.
