Abstract

Current statistics show that 90% of new-business failures are caused by the unsuitability of the entrepreneur for the business he has started. Are you a suitable candidate for success as a consulting geologist? Should you start your own geologic consulting business, and when? This paper investigates the demand for consultants with respect to general economic trends and mineral exploration activity trends. Furthermore, the study reveals certain technical skills and personal characteristics important to the success of the consulting geologist. Research shows chat certain expectations which prompted geologists to change careers are fulfilled while other unanticipated expectations often are also met.
