Abstract

A short description of mining practice in the Sydney coal field in general is followed by a discussion of the operations in the No. 12 colliery of the Dominion Coal Company, Limited, as being typical of the trend in operating methods obtaining throughout the field. Development of longwall mining to the present system of three walls in line is outlined, together with a summary of the cycle of operations involved in systematic operation.
