Abstract

Water Only cyclones were introduced into commercial operation for cleaning of metallurgical and steam coal around 1950. Since its original introduction as a primary cleaning device, the employment of Water Only cyclones as recleaning and scalping devices has also grown in popularity. Examined are examples and uses of the water only cyclone as primary, re- cleaning, and scalping devices for fine coal cleaning. Also evaluated are conditions that should exist to ensure favorable cleaning in Water Only cyclones.
