In surfactant flooding, surfactants added are often a mixture of the same type of molecules with different lengths of carbon chains. The relationship between a single, pure surfactant solution and crude oil is seldom studied. Additionally, up to now, alkylbenzene sulfonates are applied widely in surfactant flooding, such as Daqing oilfield, China. A factory producing alkylbenzene sulfonates will enlarge its yield to 20 000 tons per year over there. For the purposes of widening the alkylben-zene sulfonates? application, 16 kinds of pure alkylbenzene sulfonates were synthesized through Friedel-Crafts acylation and Wolff-Kishner reduction reactions, and the compounds? molecular structures were confirmed by 1HNMR and 13CNMR spectra. The factors affecting interfacial tension (IFT), such as, surfactant type, oil composition, electrolyte concentration, and alkali concentration were considered. The synthesized pure surfactants? critical micelle concentration (CMC) and optimal salinity were measured through interfacial tension technique. According to lab experiments results, heavy alkylbenzene sulfonate (2SY) was synthesized in magnifying scale in Jinzhou Wash Chemical Plant and the coretests were conducted using it. The results showed that the homemade heavy alkylbenzene sulfonate (2SY) flooding can improve oil displacement efficiency 20% more than water flooding at surfactant?s concentration from 0.05%(wt) to 0.2 %(wt).

Enhanced granulation of UASB granules was tested on pilot scale with two different test reactors (about 5 litres capacity each). Sludge from a local sewage works was used, with peach cannery effluent as carbon source. Cyclic motion of the reactor contents, and a daily replenishment of feed material create the necessary stress conditions for enhanced growth. Sizable granules, bigger than 0.5 mm, were produced within 20 days. Of the two reactors tested, the reactor equipped with a horizontal agitation shaft proved more effective.

China is a country with abundant resources of tungsten, taking one of the world?s top-positions regarding both the total reserve and the amount of industrial production. China?s tungsten resources occur mostly in multi-metallic deposits rather than in single-metallic deposits. China?s multi-metallic tungsten ores have the characteristics of coexistence with other valuable components such as molybdenum, bismuth, copper, sulfur and fluorite. These ores are usually low in grade and difficult to process. The technological challenge in mineral processing lies in separation of multi-metallic components in these complex ores and a comprehensive utilization of natural resource. Several cases of industrial practice of processing China?s typical multi-metallic tungsten ores are presented.

"Release analysis is independent of collector and frother dosage and type, but it is primarily influenced by the degree of liberation or “state of release of the sample”. The shape of release curve is an indication of the degree of liberation. This paper briefs about the effect of reagent combination, particle size and surface characteristics on the release analysis of difficult-to-clean LVC coal.Release analysis of three LVC coal fines obtained from two different coalfields of India was carried out at three different size levels such as -0.5mm, (-0.5+0.1) mm, and -0.1mm. The collectors used were n-dodecane and commercial diesel oil. Incomplete liberation of coal fines even at a size of -100µm, corroborated by photomicrographs of ROM and clean coal macerals, in a great measure reduced the flotation-based cleaning potential of the fines. FESEM images of fines reveals that the adherence of ultrafine onto the surface of relatively coarser particles reduced the clean coal recovery. The results obtained also appear to be coal, reagent combination and, particle size and particle surface specific. Only one coal indicated the liberation as is usually expected for -0.1mm particles with a reasonable yield of 65% at 18% ash. INTRODUCTION Froth flotation has a long history of being used to treat coal fines. Coal flotation is considered to be difficult, if the percentage of Near Gravity Material (NGM), i.e. essentially locked particles, in flotation feed is >10% [Aplan, 1993], which is usually the case with all the coking coal fines in India. The fines are rich in vitrinite, so valuable for coking coal. Unfortunately, there appears to be no standard procedures to determine the separation efficiency of froth floatation. Release analysis proposed by C.C. Dell in 1953 [Dell, 1953], aimed to determine the ultimate floatability of coal. Several other techniques had been proposed but release analysis technique has been considered to be a vast improvement over the batch flotation process [Forrest et al. 1994]."

In September 2005, after 30 years experiencing in operating an ESF using a falling water film shell cooling system, Antam entered the new era in operating an ESF, after completely modernized its ESF No. 2 from a falling water film shell cooling system to a copper cooling system. Further, in the beginning of 2007, Ferronickel plant No. 3, where its ESF also uses copper coolers, was successfully commissioned. By operating an ESF using a copper cooling technology, Antam has to face some challenges to establish the operation stability. Besides that, the chances to maximize the furnace efficiency are greatly opened. The shielded-arc mode of electrode tip is selected to operate an ESF under relatively high furnace power to produce metal having tap temperature below 1500? and slag having tap temperature below 1600?. It leads to electric current unbalance. Further, operating an ESF using a copper cooler system under high voltage as consequence of the furnace power raise increases metal and slag tap temperature. This condition damages furnace integrity fast. Besides that, relatively high metal temperature increases its pressure during metal tapping. It leads to failure in closing the metal tap hole. The main different ways in operating an ESF using a falling water film shell cooling system and a copper cooling system lie in the electrode tip mode, the water specification used for cooler, metal tap block maintenance and allowed metal & slag level in furnace. Since a copper cooler system allows an ESF to be operated by consuming nickel ore having ratio Fe / Ni up to eight and producing slag having relatively high Fe content in slag, an undesirable silicon reversion phenomenon becomes an obstacle in reaching the operation stability. A copper cooler technology lets Antam to take a chance to increase its capacity. Modernizing the ESF No.2 had increased its furnace power from 17 MWh to 25 MWh. Meanwhile the ESF No. 3 can be operated up to 42 MWh. This technology allows an ESF to be operated under relatively high furnace power above 25 MWh safely as well as prolong the campaign life of ESF brick. Further, lowering ESF power consumption, extending the limitation of ratio S/M in nickel ore consumed and adjusting Ni grade in ferronickel product can be gained by applying this technology.

Organo-bentonite production enjoys important applications including solvent based paints and, more importantly, the production of polymer/bentonite nanocomposites. Quarternary ammonium salts in this regard are still considered as the most versatile reagents in the process of hydrophobization. In this study, a purified form of Resadiye region bentonites, which is one of the most significant sodium bentonite deposits in the world, was used. The raw Na-Bentonite was typically characterized by chemical analysis, XRD and DTA analysis and more importantly for its cation exchange capacity (CEC). Other technological properties such as swelling index, pH, apparent viscosity, water absorption, oil absorption were also conducted on the raw bentonite. The mineralogical analysis of the raw bentonite reveals that it contains about 80 % montmorillonite together with other associated gangue minerals including feldspar, quartz, calcite, dolomite, coloured impurities and other clay minerals. The raw bentonite was subjected to two stage processing involving a series of hydrocylones. Different apex and vortex diameters and different pressures were employed in order to produce a bentonite concentrate with 95 meq/100g CEC from a CEC of 71 meq/100 g. This high quality concentrate was used in the production of organo-bentontonite. The modification was performed with two different quaternary amines, i.e. Trimethyl Phenyl Ammonium Chloride (TPAC) and Hexadecyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide (HDTMA-Br). In the modification procedure, three parameters, i.e., adsorption density, zeta potential, swelling index and apparent viscosity were studied simultaneous-ly from the same suspension to identify both the mechanism of the process and also the degree of hydrophobicity. Adsorption measurements were made as a function of conditioning period, pH, and reagent concentration. Simultaneous examination of the adsorption density, zeta potential and apparent viscosity enabled us to pinpoint the optimum region of hydrophobicity which was subsequently tested by settling and critical coagulation concentration in both water as polar and toluene as nonpolar solvents. The results are analyzed in the light of experimental data.

The results of research on recovery of ammonium perrhenate from by-products of lead production are presented in the article. For the first time in the world, rhenium marketable products were produced on lead plant of Kazakhstan. Distribution of rhenium in lead production has been studied. During oxidative agglomeration of lead charge, 67.43% rhenium is sublimated and at that, 67.27% rhenium is trapped by the dusts of a system of gas purification, out of them 6.21% is transferred into different solutions, 1.89% into slime and only 0.09% into exhaust. During agglomerate smelting, up to 72% of its rhenium is sublimated and condensed in the dusts also. At leaching stage of sulphate product under dusts processing by the method of sulphatization, 15% of its content in the dusts is transferred into solution. The sorption method on the ionite ?N-21 has been proposed for recovery of rhenium from the solutions of sulphatization. At the same time, rhenium recovery from the dusts into commodity was 13%. The method of direct hydrometallurgy - leaching the dusts by solutions of sulphuric acid under presence of manganous concentrates, has been proposed as alternative method of recovery. This method has allowed increasing recovery of rhenium and other metals from the dusts into solution up to 90%~95%. Rhenium solvent extraction by ??? has been proposed for recovery of rhenium from the leaching solutions. At that, extraction of rhenium into marketable product from the dusts is above 75%.

"IT enabled platforms are the key to provide an integrated view of the business activity or an enterprise as a whole. Attempts to integrate all functions in an enterprise such as mine-to-market initiatives, wherever and to whatever extent implemented, have provided significant benefits to the industry. The transformative potential of IT enabled integration platforms is illustrated in this communication from our own work in this field. TCS PREMAP (Platform for the Realization of Materials and Products) is a knowledge-driven engineering design and development platform which leverages modeling and simulation and artificial intelligence into the engineering design process. We illustrate the customization of this generic platform for the design and optimization of mineral processing plants in an integrated manner. TCS PEACOCK (Process and Equipment Analytics for Optimization and Control) has been developed to enable automation of data analytics in the operating plants. We illustrate its utility and power in improving the plant performance with the help of case studies from our work on pelletization of iron ores and optimization of flotation plants. INTRODUCTION We are living in an exciting digital era. With the advent of cloud computing and social media on the one hand and rapid advances being made in several research areas of interest to us in the minerals and metals industry such as artificial intelligence (AI) & machine learning, robotics, unmanned vehicles including drones, big data analytics, 3D printing, sensor technologies, renewable energies and internet of things (IoT), many disruptive transformations in our industry are on the horizon. Recent advances in information technology (IT) and knowledge engineering, in combination with appropriate domain expertise, that is, our enhanced understanding of the underlying science of mining and mineral processing operations and the availability of a variety of powerful modeling-simulation tools make it possible to address the challenging problems facing the mining and mineral processing industry, in an integrated manner."

Loussavaara-KiirunavaaraAB?s (LKAB) iron ore mine, Kiirunavaara, is of magnetite type and associated with apatite, a calcium phosphate mineral. Rare earth elements (REE) have been found in connection with the apatite but also in other minerals. An apatite concentrate was produced by flotation, in order to investigate the possibilities to extract REE from the apatite by hydrometallurgical means. The content of rare earth elements calculated as oxides (REO) was 0.44% in the concentrate. Initially, leaching was done with large excess of sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, and nitric acid to study the REE solubility with different acids. In sulfuric acid, the leaching recoveries of the different REE varied between 35% and 69%. The reasons for the relative low recoveries, were that the rare earth elements precipitated together with huge amounts of gypsum, that was formed during leaching. However, both hydrochloric- and nitric acid gave almost complete extraction of the REE into solution. Analysis of the small leaching residue obtained, revealed, that mainly the light REE remained in the residue indicating that a small part of the light REE were present in the concentrate, in some acid, insoluble mineral other than apatite. With the aim to separate the REE from the phosphoric acid, the solutions from hydrochloric- and nitric acid leaching were neutralized to a pH of approximately 2 with ammonia. During neutralization, REE were precipitated as phosphates with good recoveries and a concentrate of 10.5% REO suitable for further upgrading was obtained, while the remaining solution can be used for fertilizer production. In further solvent extraction studies, it was shown, that after re-dissolution the REE could be effectively extracted by Cyanex 923, thus allowing for purification from calcium and phosphate ions. Conventional spirals are capable of providing excellent clean coal recovery, although at a relatively high ash content. Compound spirals, which provide two stages of spiral cleaning in a single taller unit, have been commercialized in recent years to improve upon the cleaning performance obtained from conventional spirals. The present study aimed at optimizing the performance obtained from a compound spiral for cleaning especially high sulfur fine and ultrafine coal. Industrial-scale spiral units were utilized for this study in a pilot-scale facility at the Illinois Coal Development Park. A statistically designed experimental program was conducted to optimize ash and sulfur cleaning performance of the compound spiral. It was found that significant cleaning of ultrafine coal (i.e., 150 microns × 45 microns and even 45 microns × 25 microns size coal) is achievable with the compound spiral. However, operating conditions for cleaning finer coal fractions (-150 microns size coal) have to be significantly different from those used to clean coarser coal fractions (+150 microns size coal). The sulfur rejection trends were different from ash separation efficiency trends in all size fractions except 45 microns × 25 microns. The probable error (Ep) and effective specific gravity of separation (SG50c) determined for the compound spiral cleaning of the overall particle size were as low as 0.07 and 1.62, respectively. However, the bypass of a small percentage of clean coal to the tailings stream of the compound spiral, may need further adjustment of the key process parameters.

"INTRODUCTIONThe objective of this work was to deport silver into a residue suitable for subsequent extraction without compromising the high base metal extraction during the pressure oxidation.RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONThe complex sulphide from the tailing pond of Cannington mine, Australia, was re-grounded and a bulk concentrate was recovered by flotation. The major economic sulphides are galena and sphalerite. The chemical analyses revealed 17.22% Fe; 4.88% Zn; 8.22% Pb; 9.49% S2- and 422 g/t Ag. The baseline cyanidation yielded 36.60% of silver at high cyanide consumption (24.17 kg/t NaCN). Pressure oxidation at 150°C (in the absence of iodide), followed by cyanidation of the residue yielded 8% silver extraction. Pressure oxidation was carried out at 110-150°C in sulphate media with additions of potassium iodide and the resulting residue was subjected to cyanidation. High recovery of silver was achieved because its incorporation into lead-hydronium jarosite during the pressure oxidation was minimised, while its deportment into the cyanide-soluble silver iodide was favoured (Figure 1). Silver recovery decreased slightly at high temperatures (140° and 150°C) because of the enhanced stability and kinetics of leadhydronium jarosite, but this could be overcome by increasing acidity and iodide concentration of the slurry."

The existing construction and demolition (C and D) waste recycling technologies and standards have been essentially focused on the production and use of coarse recycled aggregates. Very few papers focus on the production of recycled sand, although some previous results show that fine aggregates fraction represents around 40 to 60% (in mass) of the Brazilian waste and it is usually used as road sub-base or disposed in landfills. The quality of the recycled aggregate is strictly related to the content of porous and low strength phases, mainly the patches of cement remaining on recycled aggregate surface. Some technologies have already been described in the literature, even though, to the moment none of these technologies has clearly succeeded in reaching the large market available. This paper presents a summary of the main properties of the sand produced from C and D waste by tertiary crushing at vertical shaft impact crusher (VSI). Additionally mineral processing technologies were applied on the attained product, such as gravity concentration by shaking table and spirals and removal of cement paste by attrition. The main properties of recycled sand are discussed and compared to the previous C and D waste, respectively: particle size distribution, particle shape, chemical composition, cement paste content and porosity. The results demonstrates that the crushing allowed producing a VSI-sand with low porosity and water absorption due to the increasing on the content of silicates from natural rock phases and increasing liberation between these phases and porous cement paste; the particles from the attained product presented also a better shape (sphericity and aspect ratio). The attrition tests assayed on VSI recycled fine aggregates accomplished a further selective disaggregation of cement paste and other porous materials - the porosity was reduced from 10% to 7%. The concentration by shaking table at narrow sieve fractions led to a product with low porosity and reduced content of cement paste, however, concentration on spirals did not succeed since separation was performed essentially by the size of the particles. The heavy product from shaking table represented almost 75% in weight and has less than 60% recovery of CaO+LOI, and expressive reduction on porosity. The aim of producing sand from construction and demolition waste through mineral processing unit operations changes the recycling approach and contributes for up cycling the recycled sand. The exhaustion of sand deposits on Brazilian large centers, the increasing price and the construction boom encourages the development of alternative materials as construction raw material. "Presently, there is a number of gold deposits which cannot be developed using the conventional technologies with acceptable economic indices due to low gold content, high depth of ore occurence and other conditions. For such ores, an innovation technology of underground gold leaching in the place of their occurrence is of special interest. The technology excludes ore mining and hoisting to the surface. This enables the production cost of 1 g of gold to be considerably reduced in comparison with conventional methods of gold recovery.The Maminskoye deposit oxidized ores were chosen as the subject of underground leaching because they are ideally suited for this purpose due to their composition and hydrological parameters. The ore reserves within the underground leaching block are 90, 000 t with 0.7 g/t average gold grade.An experimental system for underground leaching with a throughput of 15 cubic m solutions per hour was developed. A combined filtration-and-infiltration system of the ore massif development by holedrillingwhere pregnant solutions are air-lifted was worked out.The underground leaching flowsheet includes Au dissolution by chlorine-containing solutions, Au adsorption from solution onto active carbon, carbon concentrate ashing and calcine melting to produce Dore metal."

"The research aimed at developing an efficient and environmental frother,which was applied in the flotation of sulfide ores. The flotation properties of an efficient frother and pine oil have been studied relatively by flotation tests of lead and zinc sulfide ores. At the same time, the biodegradability of two kinds of frother has been studied by the method of biological respiratory curve. The test results show that the flotation properties of new frother are superior to pine oil such as flotation rate, dosage etc. and its biodegradability is superior to pine oil. INTRODUCTION Frother is a kind of important agent in flotation reagents.In practice, the criterion of the foaming performance of the frother is what is high and low according to flotation indexes. The difference of different minerals and flotation technologies has great influence on the foaming performance of frother, and it is very important to choose the corresponding frother. The type, dosage and selectivity of frother in flotation process must be considered carefully. In today's society, environmental protection and ecological protection are becoming more and more important, and the environmental and ecological damage from mine development has aroused increasingly more attention. The use of mine agents has promoted the development of mineral resources, greatly improves the recovering utilization of mineral resources, at the same time, the production and use of mine reagents also inevitably bring about pollution, and result some influence or damage in the ecological environment.The frother is a common kind of reagent in the flotation process of the concentrator. In many cases, the waste water in the concentrator can not be let out in the natural water because the higher content of the frother in the waste water results in higher index of COD.This will inevitably increase the cost of waste water treatment in the mine.Therefore, the choice of frother should not only consider its influence on the flotation index, but also consider its influence on environmental protection. Waste water treatment is a way to solve the waste water pollution, but it needs to cost a lot of fund, manpower and material resources.And the development of high efficiency pollution-free reagent is a good way to reduce the production cost of mining enterprises and reduce the environmental pollution."

The use of secondary sources has become a very attractive option in the production of platinum group metals as the demand for these metals has increased. One of the promising sources are the spent catalysts, which provide an attractive source as they have relatively high metal content compared with the ores where the metal is originally extracted from. The concentration of platinum group metals in catalytic converters is in the range of 0.1-1 mg/g as the concentration in ores is usually less than 10 ppm. Aqueous chloride solutions are claimed to be a cost effective way in which platinum group metals can be brought into solution and concentrated. In this work the effect of different parameters on the dissolution rates of Pt, Pd and Rh were investigated. The parameters investigated were the Cl- concentration, the temperature and applied potential. Chloride concentrations used were 62.5, 90, 125 and 250 g/l. Temperatures were 25, 40, 60, 80 and 94°C. Potentials were 950, 1050, 1150 and 1250 mV vs. SCE for Pt and Rh and 380, 410, 440 and 470 mV vs. SCE for Pd. Dissolution rates were calculated from the current densities determined by potentiostatic measurements. Thin wire electrodes were used in the measurements. As expected, higher temperature, higher potential and higher chloride content generally increasedthe dissolution rate. However, the effect was nonlinear and slightly different for different metals. The results show that strongly oxidizing conditions are needed in order to achieve reasonable dissolution rates. With the highest chloride content and at potential of 1250 mV vs. SCE and 94°C the dissolution rate of Pt was nearly 1 mm/h, whereas in similar conditions Rh achieved a rate of only nearly 100 µm/h. Similarly, with the highest chloride content and at potential of 470 mV vs. SCE at 94 °C the dissolution rate of Pd was nearly 1 mm/h. Keywords: Pt, Pd, Rh, redox potential

Purified Na-montmorillonite samples were used as the starting materials to prepare organically modified montmorillonites (OM), and a series of OM samples were prepared by intercalation of al-kyl quaternary ammoniums with different alkyl chain length. The interlayer spacing (d001) of the OM was determined by small angle X-ray diffraction and its gelating performance was characterized by measuring the viscosity of OM/dimethylbenzene mixture. The effects of alkyl chain length, dosage of alkyl ammonium, intercalation duration and layer charge of the starting material on the OM structure and gelating properties were investigated. According to the results, the adsorption quantity of the alkyl ammonium is dependent on the hydrocarbon chain length, the dosage of the alkyl ammonium and the retention time. The adsorption quantity of the alkyl ammonium increases with the chain length and the dosage, and extra adsorption more than the CEC of the montmorillonite sample was observed under the dosages of more than 1.3 CEC. The interlayer spacing (d001) of the OM shows a dynamic variation with the dosage and the retention time, and super interlayer spacings greater than the length of the alkyl ammonium were observed under larger dosages and shorter retention times. However, the gelating performance of OM does not follow the variations of the adsorption quantity of alkyl ammonium, an optimum viscosity value of OM/ dimethylbenzene gel was observed with the moderate adsorption of the alkyl ammoniums. Furthermore, the layer charge plays an important role on the gelating performance of OM. The OM synthesized by the starting material with lower layer charge shows better gelating performance in the dimethylbenzene solution.

Acid leach liquors from spent lithium-ion batteries employing lithium cobalt dioxide (LiCoO2) as a cathode active material contain valuable metals such as cobalt and lithium, as well as common metals such as aluminum and copper. The objective of this study was to develop a hydrometallurgical process providing a high selectively between aluminum, cobalt, copper, and lithium from hydrochloric acid solutions. Batch experiment results showed that selective hydroxide precipitation approach was not suitable because a significant amount of cobalt and lithium was co-precipitated with aluminum and copper hydroxides. In contrast, batch experiments and the subsequent data analysis indicated that the sequence of solvent extraction circuits using PC-88A, Acorga M5640, and tri-n-octylamine (TOA) extractants effectively separates four metals of interest. In the first circuit of the proposed process, copper was selectively extracted by Acorga M5640 at the pH 1.0-2.0. Aluminum, cobalt, and lithium remain in the aqueous phase. In the second circuit, aluminium is selectively extracted by PC-88A at pH 2.0-2.5. For the separation of remaining cobalt and lithium, Acorga M5640 provided higher separation efficiency compared to PC-88A single extractant and PC-88A/TOA mixed extractant. However, the stripping efficiency of cobalt from the Acorga M5640 organic phase was found to be low (less than 10 %). Therefore, PC-88A/TOA mixed extractant rather than Acorga M5640 is an advisable choice for the separation of cobalt and lithium. The process of gold(I) adsorption on activated carbon (AC) from aqueous Na[Au(CN)2] and the state of the adsorbed gold cyanide complex on the adsorbent surface was investigated by photometry, XPS, XANES methods. By DFT method, quantum-chemical calculations were performed of the gold cyanide species on activated carbon surface. It was established that the binding of gold(I) with the surface of carbon involved several simultaneous processes governing the selective adsorption of gold(I) from the cyanide solutions.

The analytical results of Dagushan grinding workshop primary grinding operation product show that the size fraction of -0.079mm is 32.88%, the size fraction of -0.01mm is 9.97%, the rate of -0.01mm size fraction and -0.079mm size fraction is 30.32%. It means that there is too much -0.01mm size fraction in primary grinding operation product and fall out that there will not be a better result in following operations. Several tests have been carried out to control the size distributing of the primary grinding operation product according to confirm the appropriate conditions of grinding operation. Integrate with theoretic count, grinding property tests show that the appropriate rev ratio of ball mill should be between 85% and 90% so as to get better size distributing. Based on the results of grinding property tests, the shocking property tests simulated the momentum of different diameter steel balls in the ball mill have been carried out. It showed that if want to get better size distributing the appropriate diameter of steel ball should be 110mm. The tests result shows that regulate diameter of steel ball and rev ratio of ball mill could control the size distributing. Contrast to the technical parameters of ball mill in grinding operation now, there are some significant advices are given for practice and industrial tests.

"The recovery of copper and iron from carbonaceous sulfide ore is of economic and environmental interest despite its processing difficulty. Hydrometallurgical methods can be used to concentrate sulfide metals of these hard-to treat ores in a simple and eco-friendly manner. In this study, high pressure acid leaching process was comprehensively studied to dissolve metals from an ore with organic carbon and carbonaceous gangue material using autoclave equipment. The sample used for the experiment was reduced to an average particle size of 75 µm after undergoing flotation to reduce carbonaceous gangue minerals. A comparative study on two leaching reagents of sulfuric acid and iron sulfate and their dosage was used to observe dissolution of copper and iron. Other parameters of temperature (90-170 0C), solid-liquid ratio (1:10, 1:5, 1:3 and 1:1) were investigated through kinetic studies to access the influence of organic carbon and carbonaceous material on recovery of copper and iron. Materials balancing analysis was used to evaluate the efficiency of metal dissolution. The effects of parameters on leaching rate and concentration was demonstrated. Results obtained from the experiment indicated low concentrations of copper and iron in pregnant leached solutions, which was attributed to acid consumption by organic carbon and carbonaceous material in feed. However, the high efficiency rates of 92.4% and 86.3 % for copper and iron respectively in sulfuric acid can be concluded that leaching of concentrates of carbonaceous ore is possible provided system control on type of acid, pH and temperature. The purpose of this research is important in understanding mechanism involved in dissolution of copper and iron in concentrates of carbonaceous ore and marks an improvement in leaching of highly contaminated ores."
