History of Production, of Salt Creek Oil Field, Wyoming Discussion of the paper of EDWARD L. ESTASROOK and CLARENCE M. RADER, presented at the Casper Meeting of the Petroleum Division and issued, as Paper No. 1503-G, with MINING AND METALLURGY, September, 1925. C. E. REISTLE, Laramie, Wyo.-The application of water analysis to petroleum engineering problems is successful in many cases, particularly if the water in the sands is of uniform chemical constituency and if each sand water varies definitely from the others in its chemical properties. At Salt Creek, the sand waters are not of uniform chemical character, and the waters in the various sands do not differ greatly; so a water from one sand might easily be classified as a water from some other sand. The water from the Shannon sand contains sulfates; this alone makes it possible to differentiate between the Shannon and the First and Second Wall Creek and Lakota sands. However, it is not so easy to differentiate between water of the First and Second Wall Creek sands. As a rule, the Second Wall Creek sand contains a higher concentration of mineral matter, but in Table 19, sample 2; of the First Wall Creek sand and sample 7 of the Second Wall Creek sand have approximately the same amount of total solids. As a rule, the chlorides are higher in the Second sand waters than in the First sand; but, the chlorides in sample 6 of the Second sand show practically the same amount as sample 3 of the First sand. The use of reaction properties does not. solve this trouble, as they generalize the conditions even more. For instance, the reaction properties of sample 3 of the First sand are almost identical with the reaction properties of sample 6, of the Second sand. The authors suggest that the chemical characteristics of the water in a sand are not uniform because of the concentration of the water by underground evaporation. In that case should not the ratio of the various chemical constituents remain the same? Gas does remove some mineral matter, as evidenced by deposits in the gas lines and packing in the absorbers of the natural gasoline plants, but why does the gas act selectively, removing one salt and not all of the salts in the ratio that they occur?

During 1982 and 1983, it became increasingly clear that North River No. 1 Mine would have to buy a set of replacement longwall shields. Despite extensive efforts to make improvements, the shields that were in place at that time were incapable of holding the roof. North River Energy had limited experience in specifying and acquiring longwall roof supports, but a great deal of experience with our conditions and needs. We there- fore compiled a shield evaluation method that uniquely responded to our situation. The resulting system emphasized teamwork among operating, maintenance and engineering personnel. The charge from management was threefold: select shields to support maximum expected loads, optimize face operations, and pay attention to detail. Final selection was made objectively, based on all available information. We chose a 5516 KN (620 tons) support with a minimum yield load density of 760 KN/m2 (7.9 tons/ft2). This paper reviews our process of specification, design, prototype testing, and fabrication, and offers some relevant suggestions.

The U. S. Department of Interior's Bureau of Mines, in conjunction with a cooperator in the U. S. A., are developing a new highwall mining system (HMS) for coal extraction in unreclaimed and active contour strip mines. This prototype system is comprised of a computer-based remote control (CBRC) system to monitor and remotely control a thin-seam continuous miner (TSCM) and a 76*m long multiple-unit continuous haulage (MUCH) conveying system, plus other manually- operated support equipment located on the highwall bench. The TSCM and MUCH coal haulage system are both controlled remotely by a single operator in a protective enclosure at an ergonomically- designed workstation located on the highwall bench. Two other personnel work on the bench to operate other support equipment. Full-scale mock-up fabrications were employed in the design of the unique remote control operator workstation. The HMS should allow the safe and economical exploitation of increased coal reserves where they outcrop in hilly regions of the United States. It should also be competitive with conventional auger mining and other coal extraction techniques, with a productivity goal at a highwall site of 20 tonne/man-h. Extensive simulated surface tests of the miner and haulage system should be completed in early 1988 at Bureau test facilities at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. These will be followed by actual coal production trials of the entire system in 1988 at a highwall site in West Virginia/USA.

The turbulence characteristics and measurement techniques for agitated tanks are well established for liquid and liquid-gas systems. However, the literature shows that the overall energy dissipation rate (related to turbulence) is affected not only by air addition, but also by the concentration of solids. Unfortunately, there are no reliable measurement techniques for characterizing turbulence in a three phase (liquid-solids-gas) environmental system, which is the case in a flotation cell. Therefore, the effect of turbulence on flotation kinetics is very much one of conjecture. The aim of this work was to develop a sensor to characterize the degree of velocity fluctuation, which is related to turbulence, in a flotation cell operating with slurry and air. This sensor comprises a piezoelectric film transducer that converts mechanical to electrical energy. Hence, when the sensor deflects backwards and forwards an AC voltage is created. Flotation studies carried out using this sensor in a 3m3 Metso RCS cell processing a copper sulphide ore showed a highly turbulent impeller zone with transition to a significantly less turbulent zone in the upper portion of the cell. The transition region moves as the cell operating variables are changed, for instance the impeller speed, impeller size, air rate and feed solids concentration. Cubic ZnSe crystals have been grown with HCl, HBr, and I, as chemical transport reagents. The growth of large, well faceted crystals is in the order HCl < HBr < I, with some produced by I, transport being 1 cm on an edge. ZnSe:I crystals showed no strain in cross polarized light and were homogeneous as determined by electron microprobe. These ZnSe:I crystals had a mobility at 25°C of about 300 sq cm per v-sec and contained 103 dislocations per sq cm; further, these crystals were pure cubic and showed both photolumi-nescence and photo conductance. Doping was attempted during crystal growth. ZnS and Zn (S,Se) crystals were also grown by I, transport. ZnSe crystals have been grown by most of the common techniques.1"6 Of these, chemical vapor transport as developed by Kaldis2 showed promise of producing high perfection, cubic ZnSe. With chemical transport, crystals can be grown far below the transition temperature for conversion of cubic to hexagonal structure. A small temperature gradient between source and growth region tends to allow near equilibrium growth, which should lead to good crystalline perfection. Because it is necessary to form volatile compounds, halogens or their compounds are extensively used as transport agents. HCl, HBr, and I, were compared as transport agents for growth of ZnSe crystals. Doping during crystal growth was attempted. ZnS and ZnSxSe1-x crystals were also grown by chemical transport. Electrical and optical properties of the crystals were examined. EXPERIMENTAL Fig. 1 is a sketch of the growth apparatus, which was a modification of Kaldis&apos;. A quartz rod which butted against the seed crystal served as a heat sink to promote growth only on the seed. Initially, crystal growth was attempted with ZnSe prepared by wet chemical methods. Because such a material contained oxides and selenates, HC1 reacted with these oxygen compounds to form H2O and no ZnSe transport occurred. Further, this ZnSe contained about 10 ppm Cu plus other impurities. High purity ZnSe, containing small amounts or no oxygen compounds, was prepared by reaction of H2Se with zinc vapors at 600° to 800°C in an atmosphere of palladium diffused H2.7 The ZnSe thus produced was usually copper free and contained only 1 ppm by weight of magnesium as determined by emission spectrographic analysis. G.E.&apos;s electronic grade ZnS, which had about 10 ppm metallic impurities, was used without further treatment. ZnS-ZnSe charges were prepared by mixing the two compounds together, then sintering 24 hr at 1100°C in an H2S ambient. The gases, HBr and HC1, were commercial grade, of 99.9 pct purity, while the I2 was 99.999 pct pure. The single crystal seeds with (111) faces for growth were mechanically held in place by sealing the outer quartz tube to the growth tube. After the charge was introduced, the system was outgassed at l0-5 torr while heated to 500°C. The desired quantities of transport reagents were then sealed off in the system, which had been cooled to 25°C. The growth tubes were inserted into a furnace with the desired temperature and thermal gradient. The system was allowed to cool for 1 to 12 hr from growth temperatures of about 850" to 25°C. The tubes remained stationary during crystal growth. HCl CHEMICAL TRANSPORT GROWTH Preliminary runs with HC1 had a temperature gradient of 100° to 200°C and no seed or heat sink. INTRODUCTION Since the infancy of in situ uranium mining, a growing number of hydrometallurgical processes have been incorporated into pilot and commercial scale flowsheets. Although initial design efforts were geared toward maximizing uranium recovery and minimizing plant and wellfield flow circuit maintenance, recent emphasis has shifted to improved means of water conservation and aquifer restoration. As mining units approached depletion, evaporation ponds reached minimum freeboard, and state and federal agencies demanded proof of groundwater restoration, processes including mixed bed and conventional ion exchange, reverse osmosis and electrodialysis were adopted by the industry. These units served the additional function of reducing process bleed flows during mining in states where the deep disposal well permitting ice remains unbroken. This report concerns the use of electrodialysis as an alternative to the more conventional processes used in in situ mining. In addition to a brief history and description of the process, a comparison to reverse osmosis and operational data derived from testing an Ionics, Inc. 1.31 x 10-3 m /s (30,000 gallon/day) unit at the Teton-Nedco Leuenberger Research and Development pilot will be presented. HISTORY Commercially practicable electrodialysis was contingent upon the development of synthetic ion exchange membranes in 1940&apos;s. In 1952, Ionics Inc. demonstrated that the process was amenable to the treatment of salt and brackish water and, in 1954, made their first commercial sale. The following decade saw several major electrodialysis unit sales which were generally targeted for use on private or municipal potable water treatment. Major increases in membrane desalting unit capacities, facilitated by technological advances in the reserve osmosis industry, were noted during the 1970&apos;s. The development of polarity reversing electrodialysis equipment which reduced feed pretreatment requirements, increased water recovery rates, and simplified unit operation, kept Ionics Inc. competetive in the water treatment industry. Engineering advances which incorporated automated equipment, non-corrosive construction materials, and improved ion exchange membranes allowed the electrodialysis process to compete in industrial waste treatment among other commercial markets. PROCESS AND APPARATUS DESCRIPTION The electrodialysis process utilizes direct electrical current passed across a stack of alternating cation and anion selective membranes in order to achieve an electrochemical separation of ionized materials in an aqueous solution. The membrane stack has the appearance of a plate and frame filter press and auxilliary equipment includes solution pumps, electrically actuated valves, filters, piping and a direct current power source. The ion separation membranes are thin sheets of synthetic cation or anion selective resins. Attaching sulfonate or quaternary ammonium groups to the cross linked copolymer structure determines the ion selectivity of the membrane. The membranes are separated from each other in the stack by non-conductive spacers that house flow channels which route the flow tortuously and parallel to the membranes. Direct electrical current passing perpendicularly to the membranes and solution passages attracts cations toward the cathode and anions toward the anode (Figure 1). As the ions from the feed stream pass through the ion selective membranes, they become concentrated in the adjacent brine channel and are retained there by the combined attractive force of the electrode and the repelling force of the next membrane toward the electrode. Limiting factors on the degree of demineralization possible include chemical solubilities in the brine flow and the current density that will produce an unacceptable degree of polarization (Figure 1). Feed or brine solution treatment with complexing agents or acids has been successfully applied to prevent membrane scaling. Polarization can occur when sufficient current density is applied to dissociate water in the ion depleted region of the diluting compartments near the membrane surfaces. Significant polarization is evidenced by large electrical resistances across cell pairs and notable pH differences between diluting and concentrating streams. Limiting current densities have been increased in U.S. manufactured equipment by utilizing tortuous flow paths of relatively high linear velocities thereby promoting continous solution mixing. Energy consumption is due to separating electrolytes and solutions, oxidation and reduction reactions occurring in electrode compartments, overcoming electrical resistance, conversion from AC to DC power, solution pumping and auxiliary equipment actuation. A major improvement to the basic electrodialysis process was applied in 1970 which resulted in frequent, automatic cleaning and descaling of membrane surfaces. The process, polarity reversal, incorporates alternating the cathode and anode on a periodic basis while exchanging product and brine flow channels via electrically actuated values. The reversal reduces the potential of stack plugging with CaCO3 (calcite), CaSO4 (gypsum), and colloidal materials and, in most waters, eliminates feed pre-treatment requirements. "Materials selection for Gen IV supercritical water reactor in-core components faces major challenges due to severe operating condition. Beside high-temperature mechanical properties, SCC and general corrosion resistance of commercially available materials are also major focuses in recent research. Recent reports suggest that certain types of surface modifications are beneficial to SCW corrosion resistance. In this study, the effects of surface modifications are investigated, and possible mechanisms for improved corrosion performance are discussed.IntroductionThe current Canadian pressure-tube supercritical water reactor (SCW) design specifies a core outlet temperature of 625°C under 25 MPa of pressure, with peak cladding temperature as high as 850°C. Challenges in materials selection include high-temperature mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, SCC resistance and radiation damage. Most of the SCW corrosion test results available are below 730°C. Early work by Allen [1] summarized the corrosion resistance of alloy groups including Ni-based super alloys, stainless and ferritic/matensitic (F/M) steels that can potentially be used for SCW reactors. F/M steels can only be used at low temperature sites (e.g. down stream piping). At 500°C and 25 MPa, F/M steels develop a thick but mechanically stable oxide layer. However, the long term stability of the surface oxide layer is largely unknown. Ni-based alloys appear to form very thin surface oxide, however pitting was observed in the vicinity of some intermetallic precipitates [2-5], and dissolution of major alloying components could pose significant problems for down stream piping [6]. In addition, concerns of Helium formation due to Ni transmutation prevented this alloy group to be used as fuel cladding. The corrosion resistant austenitic stainless steels (e.g. 316L) are found to be susceptible to localized corrosion such as pitting, intergranular attack and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) [7]."

"Asbestos tailings are a typical serpentine, hydrated magnesium silicate, consisting primarily of antigorite and a few per cent of unrecovered fibrous chrysotile. Serpentine has unique thermal properties in that dehydroxylating calcination at 600 to 700°C can yield an amorphous structure in which most of the magnesia is liberated from the original bond with silica and thereby rendered chemically active. The amount of activated magnesia can be quantified by selective leaching with a weak acid such as acetic acid. Many wet processes have been proposed to extract magnesium values from calcined or natural serpentine by means of various acids and their ammonium salts. However, the only commercial utilization of serpentine today is found in dry processes such as the production of fused magnesium phosphate fertilizer .The present paper reviews the physical chemistry of the dehydroxylation of serpentine and also various wet and dry processes in order to provide a general view regarding the chemical transformation of asbestos tailings.IntroductionAsbestos fibers occur as chrysotile, a serpentine polymorph. More than nine tenths of mined asbestos ores consist of massive non-fibrous serpentine, primarily the polymorph antigorite, which is discarded as tailings after fiber extraction. For many decades, Quebec has been a world leader in the production of asbestos fibers. As a result, colossal tonnages of serpentine have accumulated in the Eastern Townships&apos;!&apos;. Serpentine minerals are found in large deposit s throughout the world, and significant research efforts have been made, particularly in Japan and the USSR, mostly in attempts to extract magnesia or silica values therefrom.The chemical composition of serpentine (chrysotile and antigorite) may be ideally expressed as Mg3Si2Os(OH). which corresponds to 43.7% MgO and 43.3% SiO2. Natural serpentines often contain a few per cent of Ni-bearing magnetite and other impurities, and therefore the contents of MgO and Si02are both about 40% or lower.Serpentine (hydrated magnesium silicate) is virtually insoluble in weak acids. However, when dehydroxylated under controlled conditions, &apos; it decomposes to an amorphous state in which magnesia and silica are isolated and chemically active. The magnesia so activated is readily soluble in weak acids. This unique characteristic of calcined serpentine, first discovered in 1942,, has since attracted the attention of innumerable researchers, whence many processes have been proposed."

"Slag refining is a promising refining method for boron removal from silicon as a part of a metallurgical route for production of silicon for solar cells. There is, however, limited data on the distribution of impurity elements between silicon and different types of slags. In the present study, the distribution of boron and calcium between silicon and slag were determined at 1600 °C for calcium silicate slags with a CaO/SiC>2 ratio between 0.65 and 1.3. An almost horizontal linear trend was found for the distribution of boron between silicon and slag, and the borate capacity was found to follow the relationln(CB0, ) = 30.8 + 2.96-V (1)where V\s the CaO/SiCh mass ratio within the range of the experiments.IntroductionSolar grade silicon feedstock contributes significantly to the total cost and energy required to make crystalline silicon solar cells. A less expensive and less energy requiring method of solar grade silicon production is therefore needed in order to make crystalline silicon solar cells more viable as an energy source. Silicon is an abundant element and the manufacturing cost of solar grade silicon is therefore mainly determined by costs related to purification of metallurgical grade silicon. The Siemens process is the most common process today, but it is an expensive and highly energy requiring process that gives silicon with a higher purity than is needed for crystalline silicon solar cells. A cheaper and less energy requiring method for production of solar grade silicon can either be achieved by modifying the Siemens process or by using a new production method. Purification of metallurgical grade silicon through a metallurgical route is a promising method that is already in use industrially. It has however proven to be hard to lower the boron content to 0.3 mg/kg or less, which is the requirement for most p-type crystalline silicon solar cell manufacturers. Slag refining is seen as one of the most promising approaches that can be used to bring down the boron content to the required level, but there is not much data on how boron is distributed between silicon and binary calcium silicate slags [1-4]. The distribution of boron between silicon and calcium silicate slags at 1600 °C has been studied in this work, and the obtained data has been used to calculate the borate capacity of binary calcium silicate slags."

A 91 kg/h (200 lb per hr) pilot plant was constructed according to "Magnex" design. A non-compliance eastern coal which would generate more than 0.85 kg of S02 per GJ (2.0 lb of SO2 per million Btu.) upon burning was brought into compliance less than 0.52 kg of SO2 per GJ (1.2 lb SO2 per million Btu) during continuous operation of the pilot plant. Approximately 85% of the pyritic sulfur was removed while recovering 90% of the Btu of the feed coal. Pilot plant operation is summarized and preliminary economics presented. Present status of the Magnex design program is reviewed.

The filtration problems on acid leaching sludge of high silicon zinc ore have been paid extensive attention in zinc hydrometallurgy. It was found that soluble silica can be effectively converted into silica precipitate with good settling, filtration and washing properties, and the filtration rate can be in excess of 800 L/m2 · h under certain leaching conditions. According to investigating on the filtration rate, viscosity and concentration of silica of leaching sludge or liquor, the filtering temperature can tremendously improve the filtration property of pulp. At the same time, the experimental data indicated that the viscosity of leaching liquor was the key factor influencing filtration property of leaching sludge.

There were two official representatives of Foreign Governments as guests at the Chicago Meeting. One was Frederick Goransson, managing director of the Saudvikens Steel Works, who represented the Jernkonteret, the Iron and Steel In-stitute of Sweden, and who came to this country especially for our meeting. The other distinguished guest was Commander Toublet, who repre-sented the French Embassy. Commander Toublet delivered a most polished address at the Banquet, dealing with the felicitous relations existing between this country and France for the last 150 years. Com-mander Toublet was accompanied by Mrs. Toublet, who won the hearts of all the ladies present, whose guest she was.

EH-pH diagrams are useful tools in understanding how mineral surfaces react in solution and particularly how aqueous conditions can be changed to enhance mineral leaching processes. However, successful application of these diagrams requires several things be kept in mind to prevent what others have termed ?gross errors? in their calculation and use. The aqueous Cu-S system is used as the basis for explaining the mass-balanced method of calculating EH-pH diagrams with the thermodynamic equilibrium software, STABCAL. This includes a breakdown of the Gibbs? Phase Rule and how it is employed in STABCAL to modify the diagrams. This methodology was then applied to the aqueous Cu-As-S system and resulting diagrams are compared against examples of those generated using the predominant-ion method. The resulting mass-balanced diagram for enargite (Cu3AsS4) is noted to compare well with spectroelectrochemical measurements using Raman spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry.

The preparation of coal-water slurry fuel (CWSF) has the potential to be a commercially viable technology for the coal industry. The technology base required to prepare stable CWSF using grinding circuits has been developed over the past decade and is now being applied to the preparation of CWSF from wet coal fines which are generated during coal beneficiation. When preparing CWSF, the optimum CWSF formulation must be determined to ensure that the fuel will be stable while having acceptable atomization and combustion properties, and the production run must be monitored closely to ensure that the CWSF quality is maintained. This paper describes the CWSF formulation process, CWSF preparation circuits, and some of typical problems encountered in, and solutions to, the transportation and storage of CWSF.

L-D gold mine is 3 miles south of Wenatchee, central Washington. Recognition of locally mappable conglomerates, sandstones, and shales within the Paleocene (?) Swauk formation led to the discovery that the known epithermal gold mineraliza¬tion is limited to a previously unknown imbricate thrust zone of unknown displace¬ment cutting the open folds o f the area. Hypabyssal intrusions also are most nu¬merous along the trace of the thrust faults. Yakima basalt of Miocene age uncon¬formably overlies the Swauk formation, thrust faults, and the intrusions. The L-D mine is in a northwesterly trending imbricate fault block of nearly vertical strata. Microscopic native gold, electrum, and naumannite occur in quartz veins and as low¬grade disseminations in the well-silicified portions of arkosic sandstones. Fault gouge on the "footwall fissure" limits ore to the hanging-wall block of the fault. Epithermal mineralization and alteration are spatially related to the nearby intrusions. Right lateral north-south faults offset the ore a maximum of 300-400 ft along any one fault. From 1949 until January 1967, when the L-D mine closed, 1,036,572 dry tons of ore valued at $14,962,305 and averaging 0.396 oz Au per ton and 0.607 oz Ag per ton were mined. Recognition of the structural control of the mineralization and altera¬tion within the Swauk formation suggests several areas within and outside of the mine that warrant further exploration. For example, the high-angle faults, imbricate thrusts, and the intrusions of this area are on strike with similar features along the major Entiat fault zone 10 miles to the northwest. The L-D gold mine (previously called Squilchuck, Wenatchee, Golden King, Gold King, and Lovitt) is located in Squilchuck Canyon about three miles south of Wenatchee, Chelan County, Wash. (Fig. 1) on the eastern edge of the Cascade Mountains. The major stratigraphic unit in the area is the nonmarine early Tertiary Swauk formation, which is predominantly com¬posed of arkosic sandstone. The lack of laterally per¬sistent units and the paucity of outcrops heretofore have precluded all but the grossest subdivision of the Swauk.&apos; As a result, the true significance of the open folds in the Wenatchee area was not recognized, and although the geology within the mine was known, the structural setting of the mine was virtually unknown. During the present investigation, several locally map¬pable units were discovered within the Swauk which, in conjunction with mine maps, indicate an imbricate thrust zone. The epithermal gold mineralization, most of the hypabyssal intrusions, and the zones of hydrother¬mal alteration are located within or near this thrust zone. The purpose of this paper is to: (1) to describe this structural setting, rather than the detailed mine geology already presented by Lovitt and Skerl,2 and (2) to sug¬gest that from an exploration standpoint, this struc¬tural setting may be repeated in areas inside and outside of the mine area. Stratigraphy and Structure of the Swauk Formation General: The Swauk formation contains three distinct lithologies. Many investigators have attempted to determine the true nature of the internal changes taking place during aging. Merica, Waltenberg and Scottlt were the first to propose a theory of age-hardening. They attributed the age-hardening of duralumin to the precipitation of minute particles of the compound CuA12. Later Zay Jeffries and R. S. Archer2 augmented the above theory by suggesting that the small CuAl2 particles acted as "keys" causing "slip interference." Many other investigators3 have devoted much time to the mechanism of age-hardening, some corroborating the "precipitation" and "slip interference" theory, others coming to different conclusions because of effects that to them seemed unexplainable by the early theories; e.g., the increase of electrical resistance upon aging, the fact that no change in lattice parameter could be detected during the early stages of aging even at elevated temperatures, and the fact that the density did not change as would be predicted. In 1932, Merica revised4 his earlier precipitation theory to take care of these presumably anomalous effects. This revised theory, the "knot" theory, assumes that substantial age-hardening occurs before actual precipitation of solute as discrete particles. The assumed mechanism is one of diffusion of solute atoms into groups forming distorted regions which act as "hard" spots and cause slip interference. These "knots" are assumed to have approximately the same lattice arrangement as the solvent. The anomalous behavior of lattice parameter, density, and electrical conductivity, require a modification of the simple precipitation-hardening theory, only if it is assumed that the precipitation of minute particles during aging has the same effects on these properties as the formation of large particles under equilibrium conditions. In June 2022, Louisville MSD completed a 6.5 km (4-mile), 6.1 m (20-foot) finisheddiameter CSO conveyance and storage tunnel system located along the Ohio River in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. During construction, the Ohio River Tunnel alignment was expanded 2.4 km (1.5 miles) into areas where natural gas was detected. Without delaying construction, the project team developed and implemented a natural gas risk mitigation strategy to safely excavate the tunnel via TBM and install concrete lining. The risk mitigation strategy included the installation of gas-vent borings, increased tunnel ventilation, retrofitting tunneling equipment for “gassy” operations, and modifying the project specific HASP.

The AntaKori Project, located in the Hualgayoc mining district, has a NI 43-101 compliant inferred sulphide mineral resource of 295 Mt @ 0.36 g/t Au, 0.48 % Cu and 10 g/t Ag (Wilson, 2012) which is still open in all directions. It is a calcic copper-gold-silver skarn. Mineralization is principally hosted in prograde and retrograde exoskarn in the Cretaceous Chulec and Inca Formations, as well as in quartzites and arkosic sandstones/siltstones of the underlying Farrat Formation. Additional mineralization is hosted by early porphyry intrusions, which are weakly mineralized, as well as locally well-mineralized phases of breccia. The porphyry system responsible for skarn-style mineralization has not been discovered yet.
