"The Phoenix Camp, in the Boundary Creek district of southern British Columbia, produced before 1920 about 15 million tons of ore averaging more than l ·5 per cent copper, about 0.03 ounces per ton in gold, and 0·5 ounces per ton in silver. Attwood Copper Mines Ltd. conducted an exploration program in the Phoenix area from 1951to1953.Publications on the camp are listed in the bibliography. Brock's work was not sufficiently detailed to unravel the structural and stratigraphic pro bl.ems. In many modem concentrators the use of supervisory systems in their grinding circuits has meant more consistent operations and increases in capacity. These systems rely on a series of specific algorithms that uses different pieces of information and drives actions over the process. One of these algorithms is the ball mill overload detection, which plays an important role in any supervisory strategy designed to maximize ore feed rate in wet grinding circuits. This paper introduces different overload detection algorithms, and compares them in terms of the time taken to detect the overload condition. This comparative analysis is based on highly noisy power draw measurements obtained in an industrial plant.

Saskatchewan has historically been recognized for farming, but in 1943 while drilling for oil, potash was discovered. The initial attempt to gain access to the potash beds was unsuccessful, however, subsequent attempts were successful and today there are ten operating potash mines in Saskatchewan. In this paper we will provide a brief overview of the historical and current Potash industry in Saskatchewan.

"In the present paper, the optimization of a tilt poured permanent mold will be carried out using filling and solidification modeling. This exercise resulted in 3 modifications of the initial mold design which was based on the foundry experience. The optimization provided a 20% improvement in the yield while increasing the output from 10 to 15 castings per hour.In a subsequent study, the value of the critical fraction solid of AlSi7Mg (A356) alloy was verified by radiographic analysis of the castings produced in the first 5 cycles of a run, which are necessary to bring the mold to a dynamic thermal equilibrium."

"Predicting the performance of the whole mining process is surely the holy grail of predictive simulation. This can be named ‘Integrated Process Prediction’.The objective is to be able to predict the response of the processing chain, from mining to concentration, to changes in the ore type. This can apply to greenfields design – selecting processing options to optimise the overall mine performance within the constraints and aspirations of the greater community and environment; expansion and optimisation of existing plant to deal with changes in economic drivers and ore types; and on-line control – predictive reaction to ongoing changes in ore processing types in an operation.In order to achieve this there are several broad key components that are required: ore characteristics based on in-situ rock properties; a reliable 3D map of the ore body by the key processing parameters; prediction of how the rock fragments and the energy requirement to break it; the ability to predict and track progressive mineral liberation of the rock through the reduction process; the response of rock to separation processes as a function of the rock mineralogical properties. This requires the identification of primary rock properties and associating them with the rock particles as they move along the mining process chain to a concentrate or various forms of waste.This paper looks at the value of this integrated approach; the challenges it poses; the technology and capability we require; and how as a mineral processing community we can address the challenges."

Global practice in copper solvent extraction is reviewed, based on individual plant operating data for 2018. The survey respondents account for almost 40% of global copper cathode production by solvent extraction and electrowinning. Regional trends in operating conditions, as related to the prevailing ore mineralogy, leaching processes, and life of mine are evaluated. The adoption and expansion of this technology in the African Copperbelt and Asia are assessed, together with the associated challenges of specific orebody characteristics. Trends in feed and electrolyte compositions and flow rates, and extractant and diluent selection, together with their impact on copper recovery are reviewed. The evolution of equipment design and associated ancillary processes are discussed, and new projects identified. INTRODUCTION Continuing from similar surveys carried out in 1997, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2013 (Robinson, Davenport, & Jenkins, 1997; Jenkins, Davenport, Kennedy, & Robinson, 1999; Robinson, Sandoval, & Cook, 2003; Robinson, Moats, Davenport, Karcas, Demetrio, & Domic, 2007; Sole, Zarate, Steeples, Tinkler, & Robinson, 2013), global operating practice in copper solvent extraction (SX) in 2018 is reviewed. Contributing operations include established sites in the USA (8), Chile (9), Peru (2), Spain (1), Mexico (2), and Australia (2), as well as newer operations in Africa (7) and Asia (3). This survey represents 2018 copper cathode production of 1.91 Mt, or about 43% of world production by solvent extraction combined with electrowinning (SX–EW). Trends in operating conditions and performance, as well as equipment design and process technology choices are analysed. The significant expansion in production in the African Copper Belt is also discussed. There are currently about 130 operations worldwide producing some 4.6 Mt copper by SX–EW; of these, about half produced more than 10 000 t/a. Figure 1 shows global copper production by country. As it has for several decades, Chile remains dominant, with 36% of global production of cathode copper. Since 2005, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has increased production year on year, and now represents 23% of the global total (International Copper Study Group, 2017; Statistica, 2018). Copper production in Asia has grown significantly in the past decade, particularly since the ramp-up of Wanbao in Myanmar. There used to be numerous small copper SX plants in China (Schlesinger, King, Sole, & Davenport, 2011), although most of these have now shut down and Chinese production is lower than it was five years ago. The most important trend, however, is the rise of Chinese-owned mining companies, particularly in Central Africa, but also around the world more generally.

"The property of Arntfield Mining Corporation, formerly Arntfield Gold Mines, Limited, covers an area of 2,110 acres and lies in Beauchastel township, western Quebec. The Francoeur mine lies to the west, and to the east are the West Wasa and Wasa Lake properties.The property was staked in September, 1923, by the late F. S. Arntfield. The early surface work was concentrated in the west part of the property along the Francoeur-Arntfield shear zone. The zone was opened by No. 1 shaft, which was sunk for an inclined depth of 250 feet. A series of silicified lenses were discovered farther east, where No. 2 shaft was later raised to the surface. A third shaft explored a shear zone about 1,900 feet to the east, where No. 3 shaft orebodies were developed.The mill was built at No. 3 shaft and production commenced in July, 1935, at 125 tons a day. This was increased to 280 tons by 1938, and later to 350 tons. The mine continued operations on this scale until April, 1942, when the exigencies of war necessitated closing. The Company was reorganized in 1944 and underground development was resumed in June, 1945. The total value of gold and silver produced to April, 1942, was $2,011, 755 from 529,987 tons of ore.ROCK TYPESThe area is underlain by highly deformed and altered Keewatin volcanics overlain by little deformed Cobalt sediments along the south boundary. The lavas in the vicinity of the mine workings are rhyolite, trachyte, andesite, and a flow breccia of intermediate composition. The fragmentals range from fine, well-bedded tuffs to coarse agglomerate in which acidic and basic horizons can be distinguished.The intrusive rocks are diorite and quartz-feldspar porphyry in the form of stock and sills, and narrow dykes of mica lamprophyre and syenite porphyry."

"With the Ontario Ministry of the Environment stipulating that the cumulative concentration of copper, lead, zinc and nickel in mine mill effluent must be no greater than 1.0 milligram per litre, it has become necessary for the mining industry of find some form of treatment for the removal of heavy metals from effluent waters.To comply with these guidelines, it became necessary for Mattabi Mines Ltd., which is situated 50 miles Northeast of Ignace in Northwestern Ontario, to develop a compact, cost effective and technically sound treatment process to remove heavy metals from their tailings overflow. A design committee consisting of mine metallurgists, environmental engineers, a Dutch research and development team and the equipment supplier engineering staff was set up to accomplish this.Using some new and innovative wastewater treatment equipment, the guidelines established by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment can now be met. The sludge produced from the precipitated heavy metals is sent directly to the concentrator, thus eliminating the danger of re-dissolution of the metals in a landfill site, while recovering some of the valuable metals that would otherwise be wasted in a sludge landfill."

SMS Siemag (SMS) has always been the front runner in safety aspects of electric smelter plants for the ferro-alloy and non-ferrous industry. The awareness for safety increased significantly over the past decades and SMS contributed with its design features greatly to a safer design and operation. Today, safety aspects are not only part of the smelter design but also of the overall plant layout. Explosions in electric smelters are rare, but have a huge impact on peoples’ lives, on equipment and on production. For this reason, SMS wanted to have a better overview of explosions within the smelting industry in order to see if useful statistics could be extracted. Generally, there is a lack of statistics regarding explosions in the electric smelting industry, and not enough information is collected or published. A significant portion of the explosions seems to be water related. Many companies, both operating and engineering, are trying to handle the risks of water, and apply methods to detect water leakages. Installing such a system is a management decision and management has then to make sure the system is properly implemented. The disadvantages and limitations of these systems should be carefully considered and communicated to operators and authorities.

"Gold mineralization in the Main Reef Complex at Sheba Gold Mine is hosted within shear zones in a sequence of shales and greywackes of the Fig Tree Group. Competency contrasts between these rocks and a steeply dipping chert unit provided a locus for the development of right lateral steeply dipping shear zones. A set of flatter dipping shear fractures crosscut these zones with their intersections defining a system of en échelon ore shoots. Mineralization is both of vein type and disseminated strata-controlled replacement type. The latter occurs mainly within the wall rocks to the shear zones. Arsenopyrite and pyrite are the major sulfides, with arsenopyrite being confirmed largely to greywacke beds and pyrite to the more iron-rich shale units. Gold was introduced, together with minor sphalerite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and early arsenopyrite, toward the end stages of a first pyrite phase. The mineralizing fluids were introduced along dilated cleavage planes and, emanating from these, produced a series of replacement fronts. Mineralization was syntectonic to late tectonic and occurred under conditions of progressive deformation, resulting in sulfides which are concentrated in the hinges of shear-related folds and semimassive sulfides within tension fractures which are folded, attenuated and fractured. An analysis of the structures shows a sequence of events in which an initial ductile simple-shear event with a steep sense of movement was succeeded by a more brittle strike-slip event. Mineralization is temporally related to the latter. This evolution in structural style was probably related to reactivation of the Sheba Fault as a transcurrent fault during emplacement of large granitoid bodies."

"The Kettle River Operation of Echo Bay Minerals Company is located about thirty kilometers north of the town of Republic in northeastern Washington State. In tum, Republic is about a hundred and seventy kilometers north and a little west of the city of Spokane, Washington. It is also about fifty kilometers south of the town of Grand Forks, BC, Canada. At this time it is the only gold mining and milling operation in the State.Tailings are stored in a double lined, zero discharge facility. It became evident in mid 1996 that the rate of free water accumulation in the tailings pond was going to result in the level in the pond reaching its permitted freeboard elevation long before the solids plus pore water capacity was reached.We then embarked on a mission to manage tailings pond water on several fronts: reduce fresh water usage in the process, divert spring seeps and surface runoff and install a system to enhance evaporation.IntroductionThe Republic area is an historic gold mining district. Hecla operated its Republic unit from 1892 until closure in 1994. The Kettle River Operation processing plant is located in the San Poi! river valley at an elevation of just under a thousand meters. The facility consists of a ninety thousand ton ore storage pad as the mines are remote and truck haulage is subject to interruption due to weather and road restrictions, jaw and cone crushing with screening, rod and ball milling to an eighty percent passing size of seventy five microns. This is followed by preaeration with high purity oxygen supplied by a vacuum pressure swing adsorption plant plus lead nitrate addition to achieve passivation of the sulfide mineralization such as chalcopyrite, pyrite and pyrrhotite. Conventional cyanide leaching and carbon in pulp adsorption completes the loop. Tailings are treated with air/S02 to achieve cyanide destruction. Plant capacity is 1,815 tons per day. Our license requires that there be no detectable free cyanide in the tailings pond water and a maximum of forty parts per million weak acid dissociable cyanide. The operation started in 1989 with production from the Overlook Mine located about five kilometers further up the same valley at an elevation of twelve hundred meters, hence the location of the mill. Current mine production comes from Lamefoot in the Curlew Lake valley, about ten kilometers distant, and K2 in the Kettle River valley about fifty kilometers away. Both are at an elevation of about 800 meters. Lamefoot produces 1,360 tons per day and K2, 455. Both are underground operations."

"The production of salable Rare Earth Element (REE) products necessitates a sequence of chemical separation steps between the mine and market commodities. The effectiveness of the chemical separations that purify REE salts is critical to the success of the producer, as the purity of REE salt products affects their market price. This is due to the fact that impurities in REE salts, even at low levels, can be deleterious to the function and usability of the end product. The purification of REE by removal of low levels of contaminant has been referred to as "product polishing". The technologies commonly in use for product polishing, solvent extraction (SX) and ion exchange (IEX) are challenged by the availability of separation chemistries to separate the contaminant from the desired REE salt. In simple terms, if a product specification is 99.9% purity, the SX or IEX separation reagents need to have at least a 999:1 selectivity ratio. Significant testing has been carried out on the use of solid phase extraction (SPE) columns to extract low-level impurities such as aluminum or zinc from REE product streams. The SPE columns are nano-composite materials that have rapid equilibration kinetics with the solutes being processed by the columns. The SPE matrices have been modified with chelating ion exchange ligands that bind the contaminating ion with great selectivity in residence times of a few seconds. Thus, REE streams with 1 to 2% of contaminating aluminum ions, have been polished to >99.99% purity. In this paper, results are presented on the removal of aluminum impurity from a didymium (neodymium+praseodymium) product stream using SPE technology. The selection of the SPE medium and the process steps to treat the feed solution for aluminum removal and ultimate stripping and recycle of the solid phase extractant are discussed."

"The Whitewood Mine near Edmonton, Alberta, is owned by TransAlta Utilities Corporation and operated by Manalta Coal Ltd. Approximately 2 million tonnes of sub-bituminous coal is supplied annually to the Wabamun Generating Plant. A high water table, high groundwater pressure, and structural folds contribute to stability problems in the fine-grained overburden. Significant increases in coal recovery have been achieved in recent years through improvements in water management and mining methods. Agricultural capability of the post-mining landscape has also been improved following the completion of mining/ reclamation activities. Introduction The Whitewood Mine, located to the north of Lake Wabamun and seventy kilometres west of Edmonton, Alberta, is owned by TransAlta Utilities Corporation and operated by Manalta Coal Ltd. Figure 1 shows the location of the Whitewood Mine with respect to the city of Edmonton. The mine presently supplies two million tonnes annually of sub-bituminous ""C"" coal to the 582-megawatt Wabamun Generating Plant located adjacent to the mine. The area is characterized by a high water table-, rolling coal seams and an overburden that consists of muskeg, clay and various sedimentary layers of sand, gravel and fine-grained sandstone. These distinctive characteristics require careful attention in order to not only meet the coal delivery requirements of the Wabamun Generating Plant but also to do so economically. Historical Background A small-scale underground coal mine was opened in the Wabamun area in 1910 by the Conner Coal Mining Co. Ltd. Underground operations were continued by several operators until 1948 when the Alberta Coal Co. Ltd. opened a strip mine which was subsequently taken over by the Alberta Southern Coal Co. Harsh and dynamic construction sites are generally equipped with cranes in order to rapidly and conveniently move heavy loads from one location to the other. If not properly inspected and managed, this operation can be very hazardous and lead to accidents. As such, a reliable and self-contained monitoring system that can update construction and safety personnel about the status of the crane, the weight of the load lifted, the location of the boom with respect to nearby buildings and other tower cranes, and the weather conditions under which the crane is operating, is deemed necessary. This can lead to significant time and cost savings as well as safety and productivity improvement due to the accuracy and immediacy of relevant on-site crane information delivery. This paper takes the initial steps and presents research targeted at evaluating the capability of wireless sensor networks (WSN) for monitoring tower crane operations in construction environments. A reliable long range WSN system is implemented and information is obtained from various special-purpose sensors (temperature, wind, proximity, etc.) mounted on special motes that relay data to and from each other and a central hub. The latter continuously monitors and manages network performance and relays incoming data to the host application. This application, in turn, displays the received data, and maps it onto a user-friendly visualization scheme, triggering alarms when a set of pre-programmed rules and safety conditions are crossed. The components of the proposed system have been tested through proof of concept experiments and preliminary results highlighted the potential of WSN systems for improving monitoring of tower cranes and reducing related accidents on construction sites, especially in Lebanon and the Middle East region where safety precautions are usually not properly implemented.

"The Property of Bevcon Mines Limited, including a recently acquired adjoining south group, occupies an area of 2,625 acres in northeast Louvicourt township, Abitibi county, Quebec. It is situated 17 miles east of Val d'Or at the junction of provincial highways 58 and 59.Gold was first discovered in the area in 1931 by the late S. B. Jowsey on the present property of Buffaddison Gold Mines adjoining to the west. However, it was not until the winter of 1944-45 that diamond drilling encountered encouraging results on the Bevcon claims. During the period 1946-1948 a shaft was sunk to 1,000 feet and considerable development undertaken from the 500-foot to the 1,000-foot levels. Between 1947 and 1950 approximately 24,000 tons of dump ore and 48,000 tons of ore by stoping were milled at Perron Gold Mines. The favourable results of these tests prompted the decision to construct a milling plant at Bevcon. The mill began operating in July 1952, and presently has a capacity of 800 tons per day. In 1953 the shaft was deepened to 1,600 feet and is currently (1955) being driven to 2,225 feet.Total production of gold to the end of 1954 has been 101,024 ounces from the milling of 697,427 tons of ore of an average grade of 0·163 ounces per ton.GeologyThe Bevcon orebodies occur in a granodiorite stock which has an east-west length of approximately 4 miles and a maximum width of 1 1/2 miles. The property covers the central portion of the stock and its contacts with the Keewatin volcanics. Approximately one-third of the northern contact and one-half of the southern contact are contained within the Bevcon claims. The granodiorite has been cut by acid (feldspar porphyry) and basic dykes trending east-west. A younger diabase dyke, 300 feet wide, strikes northeasterly across the property 1,000 feet east of the shaft.The main ore zone, striking east-west, lies between the more northerly porphyry dyke and the north granodiorite-greenstone contact. It has been extensively sheared, fractured, altered, and mineralized by gold-bearing solutions. It is approximately 2,000 feet Jong from the west boundary towards the diabase dyke. The shaft is centrally located and passes through the south contact of the ore zone at the 500-foot level. The zone increases in width and trends northerly with depth, due to the porphyry and greenstone contacts having average dips of 80 degrees and 70 degrees respectively to the north. Thus on the uppermost or 500-foot level the width is 150 to 200 feet, and at the present bottom level at 1,600 feet the width is 400 to 500 feet.Another gold-bearing zone has been indicated 200 to 400 feet south of the main ore zone by limited surface drilling."

"Lead was among the first metals known to man, and there are indications that lead was produced by the reductive smelting of galena in the mountains surrounding the Black Sea as early as 3000 B. C .(1). The early metallurgists soon discovered that silver could be recovered from lead bullion by cupellation techniques, and that the litharge product of the cupellation process could be reduced to give silver-free lead metal. By the Graeco-Roman era, lead-silver ores were being extensively exploited for both their silver and lead contents. Although silver was always of prime concern, a number of industrial uses existed for lead that included piping and sheeting. Subsequently, lead metallurgical practice developed steadily in different parts of the world, and was a relatively mature technology by the time of the European colonization of North America. In the United States, lead was produced on a small scale as early as 1720, and by 1800, the extensive Pb-Zn deposits of Missouri-Kansas and the upper Mississippi Valley were being developed(2). Many of the early American lead ores were low in silver, and seemed to have been worked primarily for their lead contents. Major uses of lead at the time included bullets, pipe and sheeting. During the period 1860-1890, the silver-rich galena ores of the western United States were exploited, and a number of lead smelters were operated. Although all the smelters produced lead metal, the recuperation of the associated silver and gold values was generally of prime concern. In Canada, lead deposits are abundant, and galenarich outcrops frequently attracted the attention of the early explorers and prospectors. In fact, the first record of a Canadian ore deposit seems to have been the observation of an argentiferous galena vein near Lake Temiscamingue in 17 41(3). The presence of silver-bearing lead deposits naturally attracted the attention of the mining community, and many outcrops were worked throughout the country. Because of the problems associated with transporting lead concentrates to existing American or overseas smelters, attention soon shifted to the establishment of local lead smelting facilities. The purpose of this article is to examine those early smelting efforts and to try to identify the first ""successful"" Canadian lead smelter."

"The Schist Lake mine, owned and operated by the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co., Limited, is situated on the northwest arm of Schist Lake, 4 miles southeast of Flin Flon, Manitoba.The deposit was discovered early in 1947, during a diamond drilling program exploring small copper showings along the west shore of the lake. The orebodies came to surface between the mainland and the north end of Stitt Island.Production began in August, 1954, at an initial rate of 300 tons per day. Underground workings have been carried to the 1,700-foot level, where exploration work is now being done.General GeologyRocks of the area are Precambrian lava flows, with associated pyroclastic breccias and tuffs, and related minor intrusions. Their general strike is northwest and their dip is nearly vertical. Shearing is common and is related to the activity which caused intense folding and much faulting in the area. The larger faults and the fold axes trend a few degrees west of north. The lavas are mainly andesitic but a layer of sericite-carbonate schist, which is probably derived from a fine-grained, grey quartz porphyry, occupies most of Stitt Island and extends into the mine area. It is within this layer of schist that the ore deposit occurs (Figure 1).The OrebodiesThe ore occurs as tabular to lens-shaped bodies which strike northwest, dip nearly vertically, and plunge at 60 degrees to the southeast. The ore zone is 800 feet long and has been traced for a distance of 2,000 feet along the plunge (Figure 2). The maximum length of continuous ore within this zone is 200 feet. Widths of individual ore lenses vary from a maximum of 35 feet to a minimum of 2 feet.The ore consists of three distinct types: massive sphalerite-pyrite, massive chalcopyrite-sphalerite, and disseminated chalcopyrite-pyrite. The No. 1, or eastern, orebody is predominantly massive sphalerite-pyrite. The western part of the No. 2 orebody is massive chalcopyrite-sphalerite. The disseminated ore forms the eastern part and the lower end of the No. 2 orebody. All three types of ore, with patchy distribution, are found in the smaller lenses below the 1, 100-foot level.Metallic minerals, in order of deposition, are pyrite, arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite and sphalerite, galena, enargite, and gold. Both massive types of ore exhibit banding in many places, probably as a result of the selective replacement of schist. "Finding a reliable relationship between fundamental properties of minerals of non-ferrous metals and their ability to float is extremely important. The approach presented in this work allows us to draw predictive models for an effective flotation, suitable choice of reagents regime and expected technological results before the minerals enter the flotation process. Attempts to adjust the technological regime in already begun flotation are often unsuccessful because the basic physicochemical processes have already taken place. Mineral processing can be optimized on the basis of objective and basic parameters, decisive for the efficiency of the process - the state of the surface of the mineral; assessment of: minerals flotation ability, the need to apply and the type of needed pretreatment, and expected technological results. The theoretical foundations of such an approach are presented in the work, as well as supporting them experimental results, and information on practical implementation in lead-zinc and copper-pyrite ores selection.INTRODUCTIONIncreasing impoverishment of ores of nonferrous metals incoming to the flotation and rising costs for obtaining the final product lead to the inevitable question - will the mineral processing process be beneficial economically, technologically feasible and environmentally safe and what is the way to improve its efficiency. Some of the possible solutions are already in practice - new more efficient and less energy consuming flotation machines and equipment, new - more efficient and selective reagents, new combinations of flotation regimens, and so on.Finding a reliable relationship between fundamental properties of minerals of non-ferrous metals (sulphides and oxides - most of them with semiconductor properties) and their ability to float is extremely important. This is the subject of research, started in the 60s of the previous century and continuing to the present day. Such dependence would enable a realistic assessment of flotation ability (flotability) of minerals before their flotation processing. The basic dependence, displayed by the researchers as Hoberg (1975), Chanturia and Shafeev (1977), Chanturia and Lunin (1983), etc., represents a relationship between bulk properties of minerals and their flotability, considering especially the concentration of the main charge carriers, namely electrons or holes. The bulk properties are practically constant for minerals from a given field. But the 'main arena' of the flotation process is actually the mineral surface (Carta, 1970; Rao, Labonte, & Finch, 1992; Panayotov, 1999; Rao, 2003; Hu, Sun & Wang, 2010). Therefore, we introduce a methodology for studying the surface of minerals, which methodology gives the degree of semiconductor bands bending on the surface and respectively - the charge of the mineral surface and its ability to interact with reagent-collector. The latter can be used to select the most optimal reagent for the corresponding mineral."

We recently proposed a continuous production process for titanium metal with some experimental results. In the process, titanium tetrachloride is reduced by Mg in the presences of Bi to form a Bi-Ti alloy at 900ºC. At this temperature, the obtained alloy is liquid and allows for the continuous removal of product and heat from the reaction vessel. The obtained Bi-Ti alloy was vacuum-distilled at 1000ºC for 24 hr, and 98 at % (92 wt %) titanium, which was easily crashed to powder, was obtained. Bi solvent was selected because of the highest titanium solubility at 900ºC and the moderate vapor pressure among the candidate metals (Bi, Sn, Pb, Zn, and Sb).
