São diversas as razões para se utilizar a realidade virtual (RV) em treinamentos, dentre elas pode-se destacar a redução de custos, redução de riscos ao ambiente e envolvidos e também a possibilidade de reproduzir ou simular situações impossíveis, muito complexas ou ainda em outro lugar ou até mesmo em outro espaço temporal. Nesse trabalho será apresentado um estudo exploratório sobre o uso de RV, realizado uma pesquisa de mercado e apresentado o estudo de caso de como a ArcelorMittal Tubarão vem trabalhando essa tecnologia nos seus treinamentos corporativos no ano de 2019. A aceitação da tecnologia pelos empregados nos treinamentos foi acima de 98% e também foi demonstrado que além de aumentar a atratividade e a retenção do conhecimento, os ganhos foram ligados também a redução de riscos, redução de tempo de treinamento, experimentação de situações críticas, redução de custos, ou seja aumentou a eficiência e eficácia do treinamento.

No mercado atual a organização que possui certificação ISO tem ganhos significativos de competitividade e credibilidade. A Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional é uma empresa que possui tanto a certificação ISO 14001 quanto ISO 9001 e TS16949. Para a manutenção dessas certificações é necessário que exista uma gestão sobre a aplicabilidade dessas normas e uma exigência legal é a qualificação dos seus fornecedores críticos para o Meio Ambiente e para Qualidade. O objetivo deste trabalho consiste em apresentar o modelo de monitoramento destes fornecedores nos quesitos performance de Entrega, performance de Qualidade e arquivamento das documentações legais. A Diretoria de Suprimentos atua de forma corporativa em 12 sites, e semestralmente gera relatórios para realizar este monitoramento e essa documentação gerada era arquivada em diversas pastas (em papel) em um único site, o que dificultava a consulta de funcionários que estivessem em outro site nos momentos de auditoria. 0 novo modelo contempla a ferramenta utilizando o próprio ERP, SAP/R3 que possibilita a consulta da documentação necessária, do fomecedor que desejar, de qualquer site, a qualquer momento. Essa ferramenta tem como objetivo agilizar a chegada de informação para quem precisar, em tempo real.

A mathematical model of heat transfer and solidification for a continuous casting of round billets was developed. The water flux density of the secondary cooling zone was experimentally measured, using an apparatus in industrial scale with two types of nozzles, flat jet and full cone jet. The profiles of water distribution were applied on the mathematical model. The results showed that the water distribution is not uniform in both longitudinal and angular directions owing to the unevenness of the spray and to the curvature effect of the round billet. This non-uniformity causes important variation of the heat transfer coefficients and superficial temperature of the billet, especially in the first cooling zones, where the temperature is higher. The mathematical model was used to simulate a change of nozzle type in the first cooling zone. The results showed that the heat flux and superficial temperature variations were reduced with a full cone jet nozzle in comparison with the flat jet nozzles.

The deformation behaviors under both tensile and compressive forces and microstructure evolutions of cast SA508-4N steel were investigated at elevated temperatures. True stress-strain data were obtained from hot deformation experiments performed on a Gleeble-3500 thermal-simulator under different temperatures (750-1200C) and strain rates (0.001-10 s-1). The reduction of area decreases as a function of temperature from 750C to 900C and then increases. At 1200C, the reduction of area reaches more than 99% with the strain rates of 0.5 s-1 and 1.0 s-1. The dynamic recrystallization under compressive stress occurs at 800C under low strain rate and a complete dynamic recrystallization can be observed when the temperature reaches above 1100C. A “two-stage” flow stress constitutive model concerned with dynamic recovery and dynamic recrystallization was established based on the true stress-strain data. This model shows good agreement with experiment results. Moreover, we developed a dynamic recrystallized grain size model to describe the average grain size after complete dynamic recrystallization.

The high temperature erosion of Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs) is one of the main factors that define the lifespan in gas turbine components as it is considered the second source of failure of hot path components in power and propulsion turbine operation. The worn Top Coat (TC) surface in components such as first stage turbine blades affects the turbine efficiency due to energy losses and the increment in heat transfer to substrate. The first part of this work consists in describing a HTE test facility developed to emulate the damage conditions found in a number of components of gas turbines; in this testing machine, the samples were exposed to combustion gases moving at velocities close to 1.5 Mach and temperatures of 1100°C. The second part consists in the characterization of liners and first stage turbine blades of a GE7FA gas turbine used for power generation. The last part deal whit correlation of the features of TC’s worn surfaces with the erosion conditions and the dominant degradation mechanisms between test samples and turbine components were compared.

O presente trabalho tem por objetivo analisar parafusos Classe 8.8 produzidos por 4 fabricantes nacionais. Para tanto, realizou-se caracterização mecânico-metalúrgica, baseando se nas normas ABNT NBR ISO 724: 2004 [3] e DIN EN ISO 898-1: 1999 [2]. O estudo de caracterização mecânica consistiu na realização de perfis de microdureza, ensaio de tração, MEV da superfície fraturada e medição dos perfis dos parafusos. A caracterização metalúrgica seguiu através de análise química e caracterização metalográfica (macrografias e micrografias). Está caracterização é de fundamental importância para verificar as variabilidades devido aos diferentes fabricantes as quais este componente está sujeito e compreender como elas podem vir a influenciar no desempenho deste produto.

The Pickling Line Tandem Cold Mill (PLTCM) from Ternium Pesquería started in 2013. It is a line with 5 stands, 6 high; focused mainly on the exposed automotive market, with a wide spread of products with high quality requirements. In addition the operational continuity is very important, for this, one of the greatest challenges is to ensure operational discipline, the order of production, the quality of the input (hot band), operational interruptions, equipment failure, breakage of strip in the mill, among others. In relation to this, it has a strong impact on productivity, customer compliance, damage to equipment, rolls, safety, quality, reprocessing among others. Here is present the results obtained in the project "decrease of strip breaks" which focused on several fronts, discipline in the order of production, previous review of raw material in surface and dimensional defects with automatic inspection equipment in the hot mill, as well as in PLTCM, generation of logic in the redundant systems of alerts and prevention to avoid or minimize strip breaks that were high impact in the past. All these multidisciplinary actions led as a whole to a significant improvement in the performance indicators of the PLTCM, in productivity, compliance, reprocessing and quality in the cold rolled mill.

O objetivo deste trabalho é investigar a esferoidização do aço SAE 1080 e os respectivos efeitos da variação do tempo na microestrutura final e na dureza do material. O aço SAE 1080 foi submetido a recozimento isotérmico, por tempo prolongado, utilizando-se 90, 100 e 120 horas de aquecimento à temperatura de 715ºC. Os resultados mostraram que é possível esferoidizar o aço SAE 1080 nos respectivos tempos escolhidos e perceber aumento da quantidade de esferoiditas, assim como decréscimo na dureza.

The present study deals with the effects of strain rate on the functional behavior of NiTi thin wires. The samples, in the austenitic condition at room temperature, were mechanically cycled 20 times by loading up to 6% strain followed by complete unloading, at 25°C. Four different quasi-static strain rates were assessed: 1x10-4, 1x10-3, 1x10-2 and 5x10-2s-1. The functional properties are described by means of critical stress to induce martensite, stress at maximum strain, energy dissipated per cycle and residual strain. The sensitivity of repeated cyclic deformation to strain rate is also analyzed in terms of phase stability. The results show that the fluctuation in the loading plateau, due to non-homogeneous transformation, increases with increasing strain rate. During cycling, it is observed that higher strain rates result in lower critical stress to induce martensite after the 5th cycle. However, the stress at maximum strain is higher at high strain rates, regardless the number of cycles. The accumulation of residual strain also increases with the strain rate due to the higher applied stress. During unloading, both the elastic deformation of stress-induced martensite and the reverse transformation seem to overlap at high strain rates. The dissipated energy behavior changes between the 1st and 20th cycle. No martensite is stabilized after training, but the intensity of the X-ray diffraction peaks of austenite increases with strain rate, as a result of stress relaxation.

Aperam is a global player in producing of stainless, electrical and special steel qualities. The steelmaking plant in Timoteo Brasil is equipped with one AODconverter for stainless steel and one MRPL-converter for special steel production. After almost 20 years of operation Aperam decided to exchange the existing 80 t MRP-L converter by a new one including a new trunnion ring and a state of the art suspension system. Due to an optimized design the inner volume of the new converter could be increased which comes along with improved production. A special feature is a flange connection in the barrel section of the converter. This allowed to avoid any critical site welding and the time between shut down of the old and cold commissioning of the new converter could be done with 17 days only.

Conveyor system wear of belts and transfers attribute to a significant proportion of the maintenance costs and lost productive hours when handling hard abrasive ores at high unit rates typical of the iron ore industry. The recent growth phase has seen a rapid increase in mine and export capacity, with many new and upgraded plants operating at high throughput and utilisation. Subsequently, the industry has progressed to an optimisation phase, seeking to maximise production capacity and reduce maintenance costs with minimal capital spend. To support this, a programme of modifying designs was executed to improve conveyor transfer chute and belt life, which identified a need to challenge the industry practice for specification of designs to improve the functionality of the installed equipment. While acknowledging the importance of selecting the highest wear resistant materials for the intended application, this paper investigates design criteria related to decreasing conveyor transfer and belt wear. Of focus is a shift in the manner in which designs are specified, from specifications primarily governing geometrical constraints, to those meeting technical and functional requirements aimed at producing optimum geometry for a given set of material handling parameters. An assessment of transfer design criteria is presented.

O fluxo de aço em um distribuidor de lingotamento contínuo é um dos fatores que ajuda a determinar a qualidade final do aço. O presente trabalho aborda o caso de fluxo assimétrico em um distribuidor de dois veios provocado pelo posicionamento descentralizado da válvula longa, avaliando o efeito de diferentes configurações de barreiras e diques na assimetria, além da influência nos campos de velocidades. Foram realizados testes em modelo físico de acrílico, utilizando água para simular o aço e KCl como traçador para obtenção das curvas de Distribuição de Tempo de Residência (DTR). Simulação computacional e a técnica PIV também foram utilizadas para análise do fluxo. Foi possível verificar que a utilização de barragens e diques melhoraram as condições para a flotação de inclusão, devido ao aumento do tempo mínimo de residência do aço, além da diminuição de zonas mortas e da quantidade de descarte gerada durante a troca de panelas. A utilização de barragens e diques em conjunto foram eficientes para uma melhor distribuição do fluxo na superfície livre do distribuidor, o que também favorece a limpidez do aço.

A boemita é importante na preparação de catalisadores, adsorventes, revestimentos, alumina e materiais derivados de alumina quando porosidade e resistência mecânica são desejadas. Sob condições hidrotérmicas foram preparadas boemitas a partir de 3 precursores diferentes: de uma gibsita comercial, e de pseudoboemita fibrilar e de monohidróxido diacetato de alumínio, ambos sintetizados em laboratório. A síntese foi realizada em autoclave mantida à temperatura de 160oC, em diferentes tempos de envelhecimento térmico. Ao final do tempo de síntese, as dispersões foram secas ao ar, à temperatura ambiente. A diferença nos materiais sólidos de partida pode ter alguns efeitos na morfologia final do cristal de boemita, sendo esse o objetivo desse trabalho. A estrutura cristalina dos cristais obtidos foi caracterizada por DRX e a morfologia foi examinada por MEV.

The research work objective is to study a new ladle shroud internal design to reduce the slag emulsification in the tundish during ladle transient periods. A 3D mathematical model of the tundish was created to solve the fundamental equations, a turbulence model, and a multiphase model. The results show that using a conventional ladle shroud, the fluid is delivered with an excessive amount of kinetic energy being dissipated inside the tundish bath, generating strong mixing flow patterns and entrapping a massive amount of slag. In the other hand, the proposed ladle shroud dissipates the kinetic energy before the fluid enters the tundish promoting less intense mixing patterns; thus, the amount of slag emulsification is reduced significantly. Consequently, if the internal design of the ladle shroud is able to dissipate the kinetic energy before the fluid enters the tundish, it shall be possible to reduce considerable the slag emulsification and the slag opening area.

In February 2016, the upgraded Blast Furnace 1 of JSW Steel Limited (JSW) at its Vijayanagar Steel Plant was blown in after a 6 months shutdown in which the whole furnace was rebuilt on the existing foundation and within the existing tower structure. Despite several plant constraints it was possible to increase the furnace inner volume by 85% - reaching 2307 m3 from existing 1250m3. The upgradation project covered the stockhouse and its dedusting system, top charging system, furnace profile, furnace cooling system, casthouse and its dedusting system, slag granulation plant, pulverized coal injection plant, hot blast system and gas cleaning plant – with major interventions in order to cope up with the changed operating conditions. The total scope of the project was split by JSW into several packages, all based on design data provided by Paul Wurth. JSW was responsible for coordinating the local subcontractors along with Paul Wurth which has been appointed as main technology supplier in charge of complete basic and selected detail engineering in the key areas and of the supply of core equipment such as the Bell-less Top®, copper staves, GCP key items and TMT casthouse machines. The main design concept and the key points of the project such as optimization of project ROI, advanced erection concepts as well as a summary of the operating results are presented confirming JSW “BF1” upgradation as one latest examples of the current state of the art in the revamping projects.

During the make-up and break-out of the connections, threaded joints are exposed to intense mechanical and tribological solicitations. The connection performance is influenced by its geometry, material properties, surface treatments and thread compound. The aim of this work is to evaluate and characterize the tribological behavior of different thread compounds applied on manganese phosphated carbon steel under low speed and high pressure sliding contact. Four thread compounds were evaluated: one containing lead, zinc and graphite; other lead-free, containing copper and finally, the last two lead-free and containing non-metallic solids. The tribological behavior was analyzed by a block-on-ring tribotest. During the test, load varied linearly between 250 N and 7000 N; loading and unloading lasted 14 sec and were performed in opposite directions of rotation to simulate the make-up and break-out operations. Friction force and load as a function of time were registered. Upon completion of the test, wear surfaces were analyzed by SEM, optical microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The obtained results show that the lead and zinc containing thread compound displayed the best behavior, showing a wear reduction of approximately 20%. These results are in line with previously known oilfield experience. Average COF values around 0.15 were measured and no significant differences between dopes were observed; indicating that the wear behavior was influenced by the additive package.

Hydro generators installed in Itaipu Binacional power plant with 824/737 MVA rated output power (50/60 Hz) belong to the largest ones in the world. Among many unique features the generators are equipped with the largest hydrodynamic thrust bearings ever built (external diameter 5200 mm, axial load equals approximately 3600 t). This paper is an attempt to propose a new thrust bearing design with the use of the state-of-the-art technologies and simulation techniques that demonstrate a reduction of friction power losses generated by the thrust bearing. This paper is divided into two parts. Within the first one the original thrust bearing design which was implemented in the generators is described. Related calculation results based on a thermo-elasto-hydrodynamic (TEHD) calculation software used by Alstom will be presented. A comparison between measurement results gathered in the 1980’s is given. In the second part a potential solution of a more beneficial bearing design is described. The proposed thrust bearing design modification is an implementation of Alstom’s PolypadTM coating. This modern polymer (PEEK) coating material has already been used by Alstom in projects around the world for many years. This coating allows pushing the operating parameters limits toward higher temperatures and lower oil film thicknesses far beyond the limits known for the conventional bearing materials.

O presente trabalho estuda a cinética de dessorção do hidrogênio em aços 9% níquel, comercial e tratado termicamente em diferentes condições, através da técnica de Espectroscopia de Dessorção Térmica (TDS). Para a identificação dos aprisionadores de hidrogênio e a determinação da energia de ativação para a dessorção, ensaios de TDS foram realizados a 3, 5, 6, 10 e 15°C/min. Foi identificado um pico de dessorção a 124,66 kJ/mol, classificando o referido sítio aprisionador de hidrogênio como interfaces de grãos de austenita retida, cuja presença é confirmada por microscopia eletrônica e difração de raios-X.

A thyssenkrupp CSA (TKCSA), Rio de Janeiro, possui dois Altos-Fornos. Ambos iniciaram operação em 2010, Alto-Forno 01 em 13/07/2010 e Alto-Forno 02 em 06/12/2010. Em Dezembro de 2014, foram verificados problemas de deslocamento dos staves de ferro fundido e deformação dos staves de cobre. Analisando estes eventos foi identificado quebra dos parafusos de fixação dos staves de ferro fundido na carcaça. O trabalho apresenta histórico destes acontecimentos, as intervenções realizadas como meio de preservar a integridade e prolongar a vida útil dos Altos-Fornos e os resultados obtidos após retirada de água do interior do mesmo.
