"The ultimate aim of the Law of the Sea Conference, held under the auspices of the United Nations, is to ensure that all aspects of the use of the sea are covered by international law. The question facing the nations of the world can be stated as: "" Who will control and benefit from the use and the wealth of the sea?""The United Nations Conference on Law of the Sea - known as UNCLOS - which reconvened in New York during the latter part of August 1978 was the third such Conference in the UN's history. The concepts of sovereignty over the territorial sea and freedom on the high seas have remained fundamental to the international law o f the sea until our time. The legal regime based on these two concepts developed initially from state practice meant that the unilateral actions taken by one or more countries were eventually accepted and followed by others.It was not until 1958, during the first Geneva Conference on the Law of the Sea (pursued in a second Conference in 1960) that the Law of the Sea was codified and modified to a certain extent by the then independent nations of the world in the four multilateral conventions on territorial sea and contiguous zone, continental shelf, high seas, and fishing and conservation of living resources.A third Conference got under way many years later when the members of the UN met in New York at the end of 1973 for preliminary discussions . This meeting stemmed largely from the need to fill gaps in existing international legislation which did not cover the new uses of the sea. The Conference was subsequently reconvened a number of times - in Caracas (1974), in Geneva (1975) and twice in New York (1976) for what was called "" substantive negotiating sessions."" A sixth session was held in New York in 1977; a seventh, held in Geneva at the beginning of 1978, recessed and reconvened in New York at the end of August 1978. This is what is referred to, in international jargon, as the seventh session of the Third United Nations Conference on the Law o f the Sea. The current mining operations at Newmont Boddington Gold Mine (NBG) commenced in 2008, and commissioning of the processing plant started in the latter half of 2009. Metso Process Technology and Innovation were engaged to assist NBG with commissioning and project ramp-up through the implementation of a comprehensive “Mine-to-Mill” Process Integration and Optimisation project. This methodology entailed extensive data collection which included drill and blast audits, ore characterisation, comprehensive comminution circuit surveys and review of operational data to assess the limitations within the current mining and processing operations. The results of these investigations have been used to define the operating base line of both the mining and processing areas and identify improvement opportunities. The use of modelling and simulations, utilising actual production data, has allowed for multiple scenarios to be evaluated, minimising the requirement for actual trials and thereby minimising impact on the operation. Improvements implemented to date include: the introduction of routine rock strength measurement for inclusion in block models, modifications to blast design improving ROM fragmentation and downstream comminution process performance, and changes to improve performance of secondary crushing and grinding circuits. Close cooperation between the mine and plant personnel is playing a significant role in overcoming the challenges presented to this operation and further improvements are targeted for the second full year of process plant operation.

"It is accepted widely that pressure oxidation (POX) is the most appropriate technology for processing of arsenic containing refractory gold ores. However, studies on the stability of various iron-arsenic precipitates formed during POX are limited. Since the behaviour of these phases could have significant practical implications for gold processing plants, it is important to study them in isolation. This paper compares two synthetic precipitates, basic ferric arsenate sulphate (BFAS) and basic ferric sulphate (BFS) in terms of their formation, behaviour during hot curing and cyanidation, as well as their environmental stability. BFS and BFAS were synthesised hydrothermally at 205°C and their mineralogy was confirmed using various techniques. During synthesis, the addition of H3AsO4 into an aqueous Fe2(SO4)3-H2SO4 mixture significantly decreased the iron yield to BFAS in comparison to BFS under equimolar initial iron and acid concentrations. The BFAS dissolution kinetics was slightly faster, as compared to BFS, during subsequent hot curing. Cyanidation test work on the washed synthetic precipitates indicated that the lime consumption of BFAS was three times lower in comparison to BFS, while cyanide consumptions were comparable. Fresh BFS and BFAS precipitates, as well as their cyanidation residues, were found to pass the respective environmental tests in terms of arsenic release.INTRODUCTION Pressure oxidation (POX) is generally viewed as the most appropriate technology for the processing of arsenic-containing refractory gold ores due to the stabilisation of arsenic in the leach residue (Dutrizac & Jambor, 2007; Gomez et al., 2008; Harris, 2003; Collins, Berezowsky, & Weir, 1988). Detailed laboratory studies indicated that several Fe(III)-arsenate type compounds may be formed under typical conditions of autoclave treatment of refractory gold ores (Swash & Monhemius, 1994; Dutrizac & Jambor, 2007; Gomez et al., 2008, 2010; Gomez, Becze, Cutler, & Demopoulos, 2011). The basic ferric arsenate sulphate (BFAS) phase (Gomez et al., 2008), also known as Type II ferric arsenate (Swash & Monhemius, 1994) or Phase 3 (Dutrizac & Jambor, 2007), is one of the most common arsenic-bearing products (Harris, 2003; Dutrizac & Jambor, 2007). BFAS precipitation is viewed as one of the best routes for arsenic stabilisation and performed equally well to scorodite during environmental stability tests (Harris, 2003; Swash & Monhemius, 1994; Dutrizac & Jambor, 2007; Gomez et al., 2008, 2011)."

Introduction The purpose of this paper is to discuss, in a general way, the application of geological principles in the exploration for, and development of, deposits of industrial minerals. Mention of geological factors pertaining co specific minerals will be by way of illustration only. Since many prospectors are little acquainted with the geological setting and mode of occurrence of deposits of these minerals, some prospecting possibilities in the field will be pointed out. Geology is a tried and proven tool in the search for and exploitation of metalliferous deposits and of oil and gas fields, but, so far at least as Canada is concerned, only very rarely has a directed, intensive search been made for deposits of industrial minerals. Examples might be cited, however, where, in other countries, such investigations have yielded rich rewards. Thus, development of the vitally important potash deposits of New Mexico was the result of a deliberately planned programme of geological investigation, first by United States Government agencies, and later by private interests. War or the threat of war, or peace-time industrial expansion, can render concentrated exploration for specific minerals desirable or even essential. Such exploration is, primarily, a geological problem. Admittedly, there is in general less scope for the application of geology in the search for, and development of, deposits of industrial minerals than of metalliferous minerals, oil, etc. Where the latter are concerned; the objective of exploration is to find a material that is valuable, within broad limits, no matter where it is located or how it occurs. The unit value of the material is limited only by the amount of the valuable constituent in the formation- its possible upper limit is tremendously high. On the other hand, many industrial minerals constitute in themselves 90 per cent or more of the formation- their amount cannot increase and their unit value is commonly low. Moreover, for commercial exploitation, the deposit must, in general, be reasonably close to markets or to plant or other facilities for processing the raw material, since, owing to its low value, this cannot be transported any great distance. As a consequence, intensive geological search for and investigation of such deposits has been restricted to industrialized areas. Obviously, however, it is good insurance for any operator to understand the geological background of his deposit, particularly in the case of new developments.

"The electrolytic tankhouse at CCR was recognized by management as lagging behind modem refineries in terms of productivity, energy efficiency and controls. The operation was also burdened by high maintenance costs of cells, floors and electrolyte recirculation systems.A bench marking program was started in 1986 to evaluate processes and other technology by visiting major copper refineries in North America, Europe and Japan. The basic principles necessary to optimize the operation were defined, and a program calledCCR 2000 was prepared for approval of the necessary capital investments.This paper describes the results obtained to date and outlines the remaining work to complete the modernization program, in particular, the control of electrolytes, the elimination of the Baltimore groove and studies to modernize the stripping operation or adopt permanent cathode technology.IntroductionThe CCR Refinery of Noranda Copper Smelting and Refining (Noranda Minerals Inc.) , in Montreal East, is one of the world 's largest custom copper and precious metal refineries with a capacity to refine 350000 tonnes of copper per year. The silver refinery, which treats the copper tankhouse anode slime, foreign slime and precious metal ingots, produces 800 000 kg of silver, 26 000 kg of gold and 3800 kg of platinum-palladium concentrate annually. Copper anodes are received from the Horne Smelter at Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, and Mines Gaspe Division in Murdochville, Quebec. CCR also refines anodes from Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co. Ltd. in FIin Flon, Manitoba, and remelts anode scrap along with blister and purchased copper scrap ."

Limit Analysis Theorems has revealed to be a powerful tool for the development of numerical models aiming the determination of the load bearing capacity of structures reached by plastic collapse. This work presents a numerical formulation for the computation of strict upper bounds of the collapse loads of rigid-perfectly plastic mechanical systems, derived within the kinematical theorem framework. A key advance of this present method is that the problem is described only in terms of nodes and discontinuities connecting those nodes rather than element or bodies. The alternative approximation procedure to the traditional finite element method might involve discretization of a given body using a suitably large number of nodes laid out on a grid, with the failure mechanism comprising the most critical subset of potential discontinuities interconnecting these nodes. Potential discontinuities which interlink nodes laid out across the problem domain are permitted to crossover one another, giving a much wider search space than when such discontinuities are located only at the edges of finite elements of fixed topology. Highly efficient interior point method solvers can be employed when certain popular failure criteria are specified (e.g. Mohr-Coulomb). By adopting this processing approach it is possible to solve very large problems which normally exceed the memory capacities of a single computer. The developed numerical tool reveals to be robust and versatile, able to solve a wide range of 2D problems. Velocity singularities are automatically identified and visual interpretation of the output is straightforward. Several numerical examples including rock slope are studied by the new method, and the results are very close to those calculated by using analytical method and FEM.

Recently, 7xxx aluminum alloys have been evolved into new variants for thick semiproducts which have low amount of 2nd phases and low quench sensitivity. Commercial 7xxx alloys, especially in the thick forgings made of big ingots, often entail microstructural inhomogeneities and concurrent poor mechanical properties due to limited heating ranges and slower quench cooling. In this study, high strength aluminum alloy 7175 and 7050 are adjusted as an attempt to control the equilibrium phases (M-, T- and S-phase) to have optimum microstructure for the thick forging applications. The effects of the relative content of (Zn, Mg, Cu) on the evolutions of the coarse equilibrium phases, hardening response and resultant mechanical properties are investigated. Equilibrium phases (M,T,S) are evolved depending on the constitutional effect, primarily the change of Zn:Mg ratio, and cooling rate following solutionizing. The formation of the T- and S-phases is effectively controlled, and M-phases are homogeneously precipitated in the adjusted (dilute and high Zn:Mg ratio) alloys. It provides extended heating range and lower quench sensitivity than conventional alloys. The attempts ensure the microstructural homogeneity and improved properties, and is expected to be uniquely applicable in 7xxx thick forgings.

Communities and civic governments are destined to be vital factors in the national welfare in the days that are to come. Any improvement in national or world conditions must have its origin within the communities. Any attempt at solution of the community problem must give some consideration to the fundamental elements which exist in every community, and to the underlying principles, and ways of life and thought, upon which community life is based. The community is, in its essence, a number of people living and working more or less closely together, sharing common rights, privileges, conveniences, and comforts, which would be impossible for the individual to obtain for himself by his own efforts alone, or in any other way than by the mutual exchange of persona! services and resources. In this way, men have increased the returns from their labour and commerce, have raised the standard of their living, with better social, educational, and recreational facilities, and enjoy a greater personal security.

IN REGENT YEARS, blast furnace operators have found it necessary to improve their technology in order to handle increasingly low-grade feed and yet satisfy the demands for greater tonnages of metal. Studies have been made covering several aspects of the problem, and in this connection the slags produced in the iron-making process have been critically examined with a view to discovering the slag with the optimum properties for a given operation. A good slag should combine, as far as possible, the properties listed in Table I. Unfortunately, some of these desirable properties are incompatible. For example, the advantage of the small ?bulk of a low-flux slag is offset by its low desulphurization potential and high viscosity. Similarly, a very fluid slag increases refractory wear. It will be seen, then, that a balance must he struck between these conflicting requirements. In the .present paper only the melting relationships of blast furnace slag ?compositions will be considered in detail. In interpreting the data herein presented, the optimum property requirements listed in Table 1 must strictly be borne in mind. It should also be noted that the discussion presented here always relates to calcined fluxes, since this facilitates reference to the final slag composition. Thus, in making calculations pertaining to the ?burdening of the furnace, due allowance should ?be made for the fact that the fluxes are added as carbonates.

"Seepage is a major cause of earth-rockfill dam failure. Numerical simulation of infiltration process, distribution of drift, flow velocity and direction after the impoundment can guide seepage control and evaluate its effects. A double field coupling model is established based on soil consolidation theory and the interaction between the seepage field and the temperature field. The simulation is implemented under the situation of core wall setted, core wall not setted, and core wall setted with concentrated leakage. The results indicated that the saturation line height was significantly reduced due to impervious core wall, and the temperature distribution is uniform above the saturation line. If concentrated leakage occurs, temperature distribution of dam was significantly changed, which is consistent with theoretical inference.INTRODUCTIONEngineering seepage field distribution must be calculated in seepage control design, optimization, and correction of new engineering construction of earth dams, as well as in seepage monitoring and evaluation of existing earth-rockfill dams. The aim of calculation is to identify the important parameters in seepage field, such as the coefficient of permeability, seepage flow, pressure, head, and allowable seepage slope, for effectively implementing seepage control design, correction, safety assessment, and anti-seepage reinforcement. These seepage parameters usually can be obtained by in-situ test and back-analysis based on reliable monitoring data.In order to obtain reliable monitoring data and reflect the earth-rockfill dam seepage state and change process, appropriate monitoring technology and monitoring method is necessary. The traditional seepage monitoring method is through site inspection and sensors (e.g., osmometer, piezometric tube and measuring weir) that buried in the structure and its foundation. The Industrial Minerals Milling Section of the Mineral Processing Division has been engaged for the past three years in a study of the separation of minerals, by means of electronic sorting equipment, on the basis of their colour. Considerable knowledge of the subject has been built up. Because the object of this study is application as a means of beneficiation, a number of examples of the separations achieved are presented. Introduction T 0 the mineral collector, the colour of a mineral may be pleasing, even fascinating; to the mineralogist, student or professional, it may also be practical. It serves, to some extent, as a distinguishing feature in many minerals, and helps to fix with reasonable accuracy the identity of a few. It may now become a useful tool of the mineral dresser. The idea of using a difference in colour as a means of separation of one mineral from another is not new. Hand sorting dates back to ancient time. However, the means by which this can be done mechanically was developed only during the past decade. ALL mineral production? of Can11.da is transported in a mine car at some stage during its extraction. There are as many types and varieties of mine cars as there are of mines. Many of the cars in use were developed in the blacksmith shop. Others were designed by engineers and improved by the mine foremen and the mechanics. Every mine car has the ideas of miner, blacksmith, mechanic, and engineer incorporated in it. Many of these ideas are not generally known. This paper was written to make at least some of this information available to the mining industry. In drawings, tables, and notes, it gives all the important details pertaining to the cars. It .does not recommend any particular type of car for any particular piece of work, nor does it present drawings from which a car can be built. It gives the engineer or master mechanic information on many cars which he can apply to his own particular problems. It is hoped that this information will be of use to mine operators. If a few new ideas are conceived as a result of the paper, the author will feel that the effort of compiling it has been worth while. In order to obtain the data for the preparation of the paper, a questionnaire, copy of which is here reproduced, was sent to all the operating mining companies in Canada. An accompanying letter briefly explained the purpose of the paper and asked for co-operation in furnishing as complete information as possible.

"Installation of a 3.6 km long raw coal conveyor in the Balmer open pit was undertaken to improve over-all haulage efficiency. This paper covers the rationale behind this project, system design and construction aspects and initial operating experiences. The majority of the construction work was performed by our own personnel. Where feasible, used equipment was installed to reduce capital cost and facilitate a tight construction schedule.BackgroundWestar Mining Ltd's Balmer Mine is located in the British Columbia Rockies, just outside of the town of Sparwood in the southeastern corner of British Columbia. The open pit mine, which has been in operation since 1969, currently produces about 6 million clean tonnes of coal per year, mostly for the metallurgical coal export market. Run-of-mine coal tonnages total between 9 and 9.5 million annually and waste removal volumes exceed 30 million bank cubic metres.The mine is a truck/shovel operation; loading equipment includes nine electric shovels, five front-end loaders and a hydraulic backhoe. The truck fleet consists of 40 units of 154-tonne, 181-tonne and 315-tonne capacity. The newer 154-tonne trucks are used for coal haulage for which they have been equipped , with tailgates to maximize their coal carrying capacity."

The steadily increasing interest in high pressure grinding rolls (HPGR) as a legitimate alternative comminution technology for hard rock applications has led to a proportional increase in the demand for trade-off studies comparing HPGR with more established approaches, typically SAG-based but including AG and stage-crushing designs. The primary trade-off is between a) the higher capital cost typically incurred with HPGR-based designs and b) the higher operating costs of the more traditional technologies. However, if, through circuit design innovation, the capital cost penalty of HPGR circuits could be eliminated or reversed, then the need for trade-off studies would diminish.

"Improving comminution efficiencies with better machine geometries and motions, improved nip angles, rock movement control, and voids regulation among rocks are some of the next steps to better machine performance. Recent gains (~30%) using high pressure grinding rolls (HPGRS) and vertical roller mills, in theory and practice, are based on Prof. Klaus Schönert’s academic studies (1979–1996) on rock breakage physics. More recently, University of British Columbia Prof. Bern Klein’s studies (2006–present) via the Ph.D. thesis of Z. Davaanyam (2015) further validate theory with practice from laboratory measurements used in this paper.They demonstrated ideal rock compression breakage, within HPGR and vertical roller mill machines using a piston-die apparatus. Similar rock size range is used. The piston-die confine rock breakage behavior. However, these studies do not extend to larger rocks (> 75 mm), and do not demonstrate the influence of rock voids among bifurcation of rocks during comminution. Further, machines fed with larger rock sizes, such as gyratory, jaw, and cone crushers, are not designed or evaluated for geometry nip angle efficiency.Herein we illustrate a performance gain of a new comminution machine, the conjugate anvil-hammer mill (CAHM), first presented at SAG 2011 (Nordell, 2012). The CAHM machine digests rock sizes 400% larger than HPGR, improves rock grip/nip geometry, better improves rock voids, improves surface wear life > 500%, and improves rock containment and slippage during compression. In all, the CAHM machine shows 22 potential improvements over the HPGR. Most importantly, CAHM shows a 50% kWh/ton improvement compared to the HPGR. Our studies use an advanced Discrete Element Method (DEM) computer program called ROCKY. ROCKY simulates moving boundaries, surface wear mechanics, and incorporates rock breakage physics based on the fundamentals of JKMRC T10 protocol [×] with tuned A × b breakage parameters.We calibrate rock breakage in our DEM code to mimicking both UBC laboratory piston-die and HPGR comminution measurements. We then model CAHM with these known ore and machine properties. Differences are illustrated using DEM techniques on each machine, including key points of when each: use geometry; initiate bifurcation breakage; provide a map of particle size distribution by location; illustrate the importance of controlling voids to minimize agglomeration after breakage; machine performance limits; and kWh/ton benefit."

"The comprehensive assessment of the environmental impacts of mining rare earth element (REE) deposits depends on a sound knowledge of the mobility of REEs in low-temperature aqueous environments. Temperature, pH and water chemistry are important factors controlling the aqueous mobility of REEs, while REEs are known to readily form complexes with both inorganic and organic ligands, and it has been shown that sorption and colloid formation may play an important part in dictating REE transport in the low temperature weathering environment. Ore and host rock mineralogy is also a key factor controlling the extent to which REEs are leached from mine waste. INTRODUCTIONThe aqueous mobility of rare earth elements (REEs) has commonly been explored in the past due to their potential application as tracers of geochemical processes in aqueous systems. REE mobility in low-temperature solutions has been shown to be dependent on the pH, temperature, ionic strength, and solution chemistry. For example, the aqueous transport of REEs can be modified by complexation with organic and inorganic ligands (Johannesson & Zhou, 1999; Klungness & Byrne, 2000; Luo & Byrne, 2004; Schijf & Byrne, 2004; Tang & Johannesson, 2010; Wood, 1990, 1993), or through sorption to suspended particles and colloids (Bau, 1999; Quinn, Byrne, & Schijf, 2004, 2006a, 2006b, 2007; Sholkovitz, 1995). Here we review the coordination chemistry, sorption behaviour and potential colloid association of REEs with respect to low temperature aquatic settings.RARE EARTH ELEMENT CHEMISTRYREEs include lanthanum to lutetium of Group IIIA in the periodic table. All share very similar chemical and physical properties. Often included in REE studies is another Group IIIA element, yttrium owing to its similar properties, and occasionally scandium, although its considerably smaller ionic radius makes for different properties and will not be discussed further here. The REEs are often subdivided into the light REEs (LREE), La to Sm, and the heavy REEs (HREE), Eu to Lu, which also usually include Y (hence are often referred to as YREE). The REE may be subdivided further into the LREEs, middle REEs (MREEs), and HREEs, in which case each classification includes La-Nd, Pm to Ho, and Er to Lu as well as Y, respectively, although definitions vary throughout the literature."

"This is the third in a series of articles about the Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO). The first article was an interview with Niall Weatherstone, Chairman of CRIRSCO (CIM Magazine, February 2008) the second described the background and goals of CRIRSCO (CIM Magazine, March/April 2008). In 2007, CRIRSCO was adopted as the Reserves and Resources Task Force of the International Council on Mining and Metals. This decision by ICMM has resulted in an increased level of funding for CRIRSCO and the ability to advance its objectives. In mid-October 2007, CRIRSCO members met in London England to discuss the status of each of the member countries’ reporting codes and the progress of various CRIRSCO projects. Update on national reporting codes Australia: The last update of the Australian JORC Code was in 2004. While there are ongoing discussions about issues that arise from the application of the latest version of the Code, there are no plans to update JORC in the near future. Canada: The Canadian Securities Administrators revised National Instrument 43-101 in December 2005. At the same time, the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum published updated Resource and Reserve Definitions that are incorporated by reference in NI 43-101. CIM is continuing work on developing Best Practice Guidelines to assist practitioners in the estimation of Mineral Resources and Reserves. South Africa: The South African Mineral Reserve Committee is currently awaiting an update of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange Limited Listing Rules, which will incorporate both SAMREC and SAMVAL (South African valuation guidelines). The official launch of both codes is expected in 2008. Europe: The Pan-European Reserves Reporting Committee expects to release a consultation draft in 2008. Emphasis is being placed on industrial minerals and aggregates, which constitute a very large industry in Europe. Chile: The Chilean Certification Code was approved in early 2008. As part of the Code, a National Commission is being established to screen and review reports on a random or specific basis. United States: The Society of Mining Engineers updated the SME Reporting Guidelines in 2007. The Securities and Exchange Commission has not accepted these more up-to-date definitions and guidelines. The SME committee will continue to discuss the incorporation of these Reporting Guidelines with SEC. SME has also established a class of membership, a Registered Member, which includes disciplinary measures for non-compliance with the SME guidelines."

"A novel carbonaceous adsorbent for recovery of nickel from nickel plating waste solution was prepared from rice straw using sulfur impregnation. The rice straws were cut to 1 cm pieces, and then immersed in 0.01 - 3 M K2S solution to prepare sulfur-immersed materials. The immersed-materials were heated at 100-700 ºC in nitrogen gas to produce the sulfur-impregnated carbonaceous adsorbent by pyrolysis. The contents of carbon and sulfur in the adsorbent and abilities of adsorbent to recovery nickel from aqueous solution were examined. The contents of carbon and sulfur in sulfur-immersed materials are almost same as those in raw material. In pyrolysis, with increasing the heating temperature to 200 ºC, the contents of carbon and sulfur are almost constant, and then above 300 ºC those increase. The recovery for nickel using raw material, sulfur-immersed material and the product pyrolyzed at 100 - 200 ºC are almost same, and with increasing the heating temperature to 400 ºC, that of the product increases, and above 500 ºC that of the product decreases. In immerse step, with increasing K2S concentration, the carbon content of the product at 400 ºC gradually decreases, the sulfur content of the product increases, and the recovery for nickel using the product gradually increases and then above 1 M K2S decrease. The product prepared from material immersed in 1 M K2S solution at 400 ºC indicates a maximum recovery for nickel ion. The product can adsorb nickel ion in nickel plating waste solution coexisting with phosphate ion, and adsorbed nickel ion in the product was deposited as nickel metal after heating at 1000 ºC under N2 atmosphere.INTRODUCTIONRice is the second world’s largest cereal crop after wheat, but produces large amount of straw residues, of about 330 million metric tonnes. Rice is a widely grown crop in Asia, and rice straw is produced as a by-product of rice production. In most parts of rice fields, open-field burning of rice straw is commonly practiced in the region when there is limited time to prepare a field for the next crop. However, open-field burning of crop residues is an uncontrolled combustion process during which air pollutants are emitted into atmosphere. These air pollutants have significant toxicological properties and are potential carcinogens (Gadede et al., 2009). Although wildfires are prohibited in cultivation fields of most countries, farmers usually keep on burning their crop by-products. Biomass burning is an important source of aerosol particles which may affect local and regional air quality (Gao et al., 2011), and also contribute to global climate changes."
