"The aim of the study was to develop and implement more efficient dialkyldithiophosphate collectors. A hypothesis has been formulated on the action of dialkyldithiophosphates in the flotation of sulphide ores based on the assessment of their complexing properties and surface activity at the liquid-gas border. Dialkyldithiophosphates form weaker complexes with cations of heavy metals compared to xanthates, and are characterized by a large difference in the strength of their complexes with heavy metal cations. It provides higher selectivity of dialkyldithiophosphates in the separation of non-ferrous metal sulphides and iron sulphides from them. To make a quality assessment of the impact of surface activity of the synthesized collectors on their selectivity of action and collecting power, an assessment of the surface tension of their aqueous solutions has been performed using the stalagmometer method. It is well known that a stronger collector is characterized by a greater surface activity, in contrast to a more selective collector which is characterized by a lower surface activity. Based on studies, new dialkyldithiophosphate collectors BTF 163 and BTF 1552 are suggested for use in the flotation of sulphides to increase the recovery of copper, gold and silver. The collector BTF 163 was introduced at a gold processing plant in Kazakhstan and has been undergoing industrial testing in the sulphide cycle of scheelite-skarn-sulphide ores in a factory in the far east of Russia. The collector BTF 1552, which increases the recovery of silver and gold by 3%, was approved for industrial testing in another far-eastern factory. A modification of the reagent BTF 1552, the new reagent BTF 1522, was introduced in the flotation of copper-zinc ore at a factory in Kazakhstan."

Laboratory test equipment and methods have undergone relatively little change since their introduction in the 1950’s. The Denver sub-A cell is still by far the most commonly used laboratory batch cell, but bottom-driven and instrumented cells are beginning to appear. Test procedures have also changed little over the past 60 years, and most engineers continue to rely on empirical models for predicted plant scale performance from laboratory scale tests. This approach is problematic, because changes in the froth phase characteristics in the lab hamper the reliability and reproducibility of the empirical extrapolation to plant scale. In a previous work, the authors reported on the impact of froth recovery at the laboratory cell, showing that variability in the froth recovery can lead to significant error in the modeled kinetic rate constant unless it is properly accounted for in the scale-up model. In this work, we review the role of hydraulic entrainment in the lab cell, and how variability in particle specific gravity, shape factor, and froth residence time can impact the entrainment recovery.

"Selenium removal and platinum group metal (PGM) recovery from copper sulfate leach solutions form an integral part of platinum producers’ base metal refinery operations. Recent studies found that substantially higher PGM recoveries can be achieved if excess thiourea instead of sulfurous acid is used as precipitation reagent; however, the impact of the proposed process on downstream processes was unknown. The objective of the current study was therefore to investigate the effects that excess thiourea and residual selenium present in the rich copper sulfate electrolyte have on copper electrowinning. This was achieved by performing cyclic voltammetry tests using a platinum rotating disk as working electrode, a graphite auxiliary electrode and a saturated calomel reference electrode. A synthetic copper sulfate electrolyte containing 0.01 M Cu2+, 1 M H2SO4 and varying amounts of selenium (20 – 150 mg/L) and thiourea (10 mg/L and 100 – 300 % excess) was used. The results obtained have shown that both thiourea and selenium interact with the cupric ion cathodic reduction reaction. Thiourea polarized the working electrode and lowered the efficiency of the cupric reduction reaction. Tests on the solutions with high selenium concentration showed simultaneous reduction of copper and selenium, which led to copper selenide formation. Nodule formation on the deposit surface also became significant at higher selenium concentrations. Based on these results, it was concluded that precipitation of PGMs from the copper sulfate solution with excess thiourea is not feasible due to the detrimental effect on downstream electrowinning operations.INTRODUCTION During the high pressure oxidative leaching stage in a typical base metal refinery (BMR) circuit, selenium, tellurium and some platinum group metals (PGMs) are dissolved along with the desired copper ions. The impurities (selenium and tellurium) may pass to the copper electrowinning circuit where it can result in the formation of nodular copper electrodeposits or reduced current efficiency. The presence of PGMs in solution, on the other hand, increases the precious metal inventory and potential losses of the operation. Currently, sulfurous acid is widely used for selenium and tellurium precipitation from copper sulfate leach solutions. Sulfurous acid is capable of reducing cupric ions to cuprous ions; the generated cuprous ions then react with Se4+ and Se6+ to precipitate selenium as a copper selenide (Bello, Dorfling, 2014). Recent studies have, however, proposed the use of excess thiourea as a precipitating agent for the removal of selenium and tellurium; it has the advantage of improved PGM recovery in the Se/Te precipitation step (Lottering, Eksteen et al., 2012; Mulwanda, Dorfling, 2015)."

"In this paper, experiences from Polish non-ferrous metals ores enrichment plants in the copper and blende concentrates quality improvement are discussed. The blende concentrate being produced in ZGH Boleslaw S.A., with Zn content of about 54,5% is characterized by the relatively high magnesium content reaching a level of 1% resulting from the dolomite presence, while for the zinc production by electrowinning a concentrate in which magnesium content should not exceed 0,3% is required. The implemented new technology for the quality improvement of blende concentrate is based on the leaching of zinc concentrate with sulfuric acid aimed at dissolving of the contained dolomite, and then flotation of the leached concentrate. It allows to obtain a concentrate with magnesium content below 0,1% at the simultaneously increased zinc content to about 57,5%. In the paper, laboratory tests results on the development of optimal flotation flowsheet for the gypsum removal and the industrial tests results concerning the process optimization of this flotation are discussed. In turn, the copper concentrate being produced in Polish copper ore enrichment plants KGHM PM S.A., is characterized by the increased organic carbon content - above 8%. It creates problems with the smelting of this concentrate because of difficulties with the heat removal derived from the combustion of organic carbon in the flash smelting process. The implementation of segregating flotation to the industrial practice allows the effective production of two concentrates with the differentiated chemical compositions - a concentrate with increased copper content and reduced organic carbon content for the flash smelting process, and a concentrate with lower copper content and increased organic carbon content for the shaft smelting process. In the paper, conditions of the segregating flotation and the achieved results are described."

Small manganese ore bodies in south Odisha, India occurs both as stratiform and stratabound ore bodies. These two ore bodies show contrasting mineralogical, petrographical and chemical characteristics. Stratiform type of Mn-ores consists of manganese, iron and silicate- phases in approximately same proportion. In contrast, stratabound ore bodies contain a high proportion of manganese oxides, silicates and phosphorus phases. Phosphorus is found within apatite in the stratabound ore bodies while in the stratiform ore it occurs as an adsorbed state with iron phase (goethite). Both ore bodies are low-grade (17-23% Mn) therefore do not have a market value. However, the stratabound ores are enriched in phosphorus (P2O5: >1%) compared to the stratiform ores. Both the ore types were processed through gravity, magnetic and roast reduction followed by magnetic separation techniques. The strata bound ore could be upgraded to 33% Mn from a feed of 23% by combination of dry and wet magnetic separation methods. But the phosphorus content also suits up (P2O5: 1.2%) in the processed product making it unsuitable for further use. The stratiform ores do not respond to either gravity or magnetic separation because of close association of manganese with iron phases. However, this could be beneficiated through roast reduction followed by magnetic separation. An ore with 17% Mn content could be upgraded to 40% Mn with a 42% yield and 78% recovery. The goethite, having phosphorus, converts to magnetite and is retained within the magnetic fraction, thereby reducing the concentration of phosphorus in the non-magnetic fraction, which becomes the product. This report demonstrates the influence of ore petrology in determining the up-gradational potential of manganese ore in the southern Odisha, India. Due to the shortage of fresh water in the Middle East, seawater has been used as an alternative in flotation beneficiation. The flotation process requires about 7 m3 of water/mt ore. This article aims to study the effect of seawater cations and anions on the flotation. Natural pure francolite, calcite, dolomite and quartz were characterized by chemical, thermal and x-ray diffraction analyses, surface area, solubility and zeta potential. Synthetic seawater was prepared with the major chemical composition similar to natural seawater as follow; 2.45% NaCl, 0.52% MgCl2, 0.41% Na2SO4, 0.116% CaCl2 and 0.07% KCl. Also, natural seawater was used in application. The point zero of charge was estimated at pH 6.5, 7.8, 9.2 and 2.2 for francolite, calcite, dolomite and quartz, respectively. Calcium ions were released from the three minerals with Mg2+ and P2O5 3– released from dolomite and phosphate, respectively. The adsorption of collector, zeta-potential and floatability of pure minerals were studied. The effect of individual cations and anions predominant in seawater are studied on individual mineral or group. The troublesome Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions should be controlled by soda ash addition. Sodium silicate improved the selectivity of mineral mixtures and natural ore. At optimum conditions the calcareous phosphate ore yielded a concentrate of 34% P2O5, at 83% recovery with 0.61% MgO, from an ore assaying 25.3% P2O5 and 9.4% MgO. Sandur Schist Belt of Karnataka Craton constitutes a hub of iron ore mining activity. The iron ore deposits of the region are closely associated with Banded Hematite Quartzite (BHQ), Shale, phyllites, & Graywackes. The gradual depletion of high-grade iron ores due to extensive utilization has necessitated the exploitation of low-grade iron ore including BHQ, which are available abundantly in different parts of India. In the present investigation, BHQ samples from Kammaturu mines of Sandur schist belt was studied to assess the possibility of upgrading the iron content to the maximum possible extent, so that it may find the better use in iron and steel industries. The sample collected from the study area analyzing 39.76% Fe, 39.8% SiO2, 0.66% Al2O3, and 1.92% LOI was subjected to beneficiation studies. The mineralogical studies reveals that the samples are predominately consists of hematite as an iron mineral and quartz as gangue mineral. Liberation studies and chemical analysis were carried out prior to the beneficiation process, which is flotation. Cationic Reverse flotation studies were carried out and discussed by varying different process variables such as feed size, depressant, collector cum frother dosage & pH. The results obtained are encouraging with an appreciable improvement in the iron content up to 62.8% Fe with Fe recovery of 50.43%. The concentrate obtained from the flotation can be used for pellet making process.

"Feldspars used by ceramic and glass industries as fluxing agents are mainly obtained from high quality feldspar deposits. The demand for feldspar as raw material for industrial applications especially in ceramic manufactures is continuously increasing. However, due to the depletion of those deposits, the research activities related to the recovery of feldspar from the lower grade feldspar deposits and feldspar bearing rocks such as pegmatite, granite, arkosic sandstone and syenite have been intensified in the last two decade. In Bulgaria, the main deposit of arkosic sandstone is located in the area of Shumen town, NE Bulgaria. In Srednya deposit arkosic sandstones are found in Upper Cretaceous sediments (Santonian). In this formation, there are two major industrial minerals - feldspar and quartz. They may be of economic value and possibly suitable for commercial uses. The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the beneficiation and upgrading processes of Srednya deposit arkosic sandstones. In a laboratory scale it was studied the possibility to obtain the feldspar concentrate and quartz sand from arkosic sandstones. Particle size distribution, chemical and mineralogical compositions of quartz-feldspar sands were determined. The bench-scale tests using the KOALIN AD laboratory experimental facilities were conducted. Many processing techniques were tested: disintegration, washing, sizing, carbonate flotation and feldspar flotation. The experimental results show that there are possibilities to obtain the silica sand with low content of Fe2O3 - below 0.02 % and potassium feldspar with content of K2O > 14 %. A new technology for recovery of feldspar and silica sand from arkosic sandstone was developed."

In this study, free fall tests are conducted with the objective of understanding the breakage properties of waste concrete for the guide of the direction of the better comminution process. Waste concrete of 75mm×53mm is tested at various drop heights with or without heat pretreatment. Test results indicate that a block of waste concrete does not break by free fall, but eventually breaks by repeated free falls. The number of free falls required for complete separation of large aggregates from the cement mortar considerably reduced when the samples were heated at 400?. Therefore, a great energy saving can be obtained when heating the waste concrete prior to crushing. The energy saving was found to be dependent on the height of free fall but in all cases, was still large enough to offset the additional energy required for heating. Also, it was found that the heat pre-treatment gives an additional advantage in that it produced cleaner recycled aggregates. This may result from easier detachment of cement mortar from the aggregates due to weakening of bonding forces by heating. By analyzing the size distribution of the crushed product, a free-fall breakage model is developed using the particle breakage ratio and the breakage pattern. The developed model can be used to predict and to analyze waste concrete processing circuit.

We present a novel on line inductive sensor for the determination of the quality of the concentrates of iron ores. This device is coupled with a cheap USB Data Acquisition System that makes it versatile enough to simultaneously control up to seven fluxes at a very low cost (< $300 US dollars), and achieves a resolution better than 0.5 % on the determination of the magnetic iron content in the concentrate. A RLC circuit with its inductive element placed surrounding a sample of pure magnetite concentrate is tuned at its resonance frequency, by means of adjusting, the feeding voltage of a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and several samples with mixtures of different contents of silica and magnetite are placed in order to get a calibration curve. After some signal conditioning, a National Instruments USB-DAQ NI-6008, acquires the amplitude of the signal via USB port on a PC using a Lab-View program designed for such purpose, in which the calibration curve is used for on-screen data presentation directly in percent of magnetite content. The implementation of this device for control purposes on line directly placed on the concentrators would allow better efficiency of the process and higher quality of the final concentrate by con-trolling; the rotation speed, the rising or dilution water fluxes or bypasses towards milling recirculation cycles.

"The smelter slags represented silicate crystalline rock with medium to coarse-grained structure with spinifex skeletal network of olivine in hedenbergite matrix. Accessory magnetite, pyrrhotite and copper sulfides chalcopyrite, bornite, covellite, chalcocite and digenite occurred in dissemination in silicate matrix. The sample was studied by optical and electron microscopy with support of quantitative XRD. Modal mineralogical composition included olivine, pyroxene, magnetite, chalcopyrite, quartz, pyrrhotite. Copper deportment showed copper distributed in chalcopyrite (40 %), cuprite (22 %), covellite (21 %), bornite, chalcocite, digenite (5 %), Cu-bearing pyrrhotite (4 %) and spinel (2%). Liberation of copper minerals in the material ground to P80=71 µm was good with over 90 % sulfides in free grains and floatable binaries. The results showed theoretical possibility of 65 % copper recovery by flotation. Conclusion based on mineralogical data was precisely confirmed with flotation tests studies that proved to recover around 60 % of copper to commercial grade concentrate. INTRODUCTION Annual world copper matte smelter slags production is estimated to be millions of tones and contain thousands tones of unrecovered Cu, Zn and significant amounts of Ag and Au. Mineralogical study of one large processing sample of material of historical piles of Cu matte smelter slag was carried out to find possibility to recover copper and define theoretical recovery by flotation. The study of the slag material was aimed to determine possibility of upgrading the material on existing copper flotation plant to develop additional mineral resources. The objectives for mineralogical investigation were to target for best liberation fineness, determine theoretical recovery and possible concentrate quality for sulfide flotation tests. MATERIALS AND METHODS Large representative processing sample was collected by mixing of 120 t of slag material representatively excavated from historical piles of Cu matte smelter slag. The sample was used to define the processing technology to recover copper and gold from the material."

"Antofagasta Minerals S.A. (AMSA), for its Centinela District Project, is currently developing, at a first stage, a new 90 ktpd Concentrator Plant incorporating Esperanza Sur (ESP Sur) and Encuentro (ENC) ores. In order to dimension properly main equipment, specifically for grinding circuit, a final decision has been taken using geological and metallurgical (comminution) data from both body ores. Data was analyzed internally within AMSA and its consultants to get a final proposed circuit for further engineering studies. Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) parameter is one of the main key factors for proper dimensioning. To get an accurate value different tests have been made and modelled to ESP Sur and ENC ores. Also, operational data from Esperanza operation has been taken into account due to its similar ore characteristics to ESP Sur ore and incorporated as input data for design. Depending on data, quality and amount, it is possible to estimate accuracy for project investment and risk level, hence investment decision can be taken under good and reliable information."

"Pyrrhotite in nickel-copper sulphide ores is nickeliferrous and intimately associated with pentlandite. Due to its low nickel content, pyrrhotite rejection is an important step in processing of these ores. In our laboratory, various reagents were investigated for their effect on pyrrhotite depression. Among these, a combined use of triethylenetetramine and sodium metabisulphite was found highly promising.The work described in this paper has two parts. The firs part is a summary of results obtained on process samples from the pyrrhotite rejection circuit at Falconbridge’s Strathcona Mill. The second part involves simulation of the circuit performance based on the reagent conditions used in the experimental work and the concept of split factors.Two sets of reagent conditions were evaluated. The first one involved baseline conditions, simulating the current reagent performance. The second one simulated the impact these new reagents can have on the circuit performance.The simulation results obtained under baseline conditions indicated a good agreement with the current circuit performance. The simulation results suggest that at practically the same pentlandite recovery and tailing grades, the circuit concentrate nickel grade can be doubled through effective pyrrhotite rejection by these new reagents."

This paper describes of processing tests of 8 flotation concentrates containing precious and base metals by pressure oxidation (POX) method. Concentrates 1 and 2 were gold-copper concentrates. Zinc and silver were by-products in these concentrates. These concentrates were processed by POX with following cyanidation of POX solid residues, copper solvent extraction and zinc carbonate precipitation. The recoveries of gold, copper, silver and zinc from these concentrate were 98, 99, 30 and 99%, respectively. Concentrates 3 and 4 were lead-zinc concentrates. Silver was by-product in concentrate 3. Gold, silver and copper were by-products in concentrate 4. Concentrate 3 was processed by POX with following reduction smelting of POX cakes for primary lead recovery and zinc carbonate precipitation from POX solution. The recoveries of lead and silver into ingot were 96 and 98%, respectively. The recovery of zinc was 99%. Concentrate 4 was processed by POX with following zinc carbonate precipitation and reduction smelting of POX cakes. Copper was precipitated from the POX solution using sodium sulphide prior zinc precipitation. The recovery of zinc into carbonate concentrate was 99%. The recoveries of lead, gold and silver into lead bullion were 95, 99 and 98% respectively. The recovery of copper into sulphide concentrate was 99%. Concentrate 5 was gold-pyrite concentrate, and concentrates 6-8 were double refractory gold-arsenopyrite concentrates. Silver was by-product in these concentrates. These concentrates processed by POX and CIL. The recovery of gold from concentrate 5 was 98%, and from concentrates 6-8 was 85-90. Low gold recovery from concentrates 6-8 was associated with preg-robbing factor. The recovery of silver from gold-sulphide concentrates did not exceed 10-20%. The low silver recovery was associated with argentojarosite formation that is resistant to cyanidation. The flowsheets for complex processing of precious and base metals sulphide flotation concentrates based on this test work results were proposed.

This paper reports the results of a detailed mineralogical study of typical, low-grade Australian nickel laterite run-of-mine ores. Successful development of an effective beneficiation process for upgrading such low grade laterite ores relies on good knowledge of the laterite mineralogy and the value metal(s)? distribution characteristics. Both QEMSCAN and quantitative X-ray diffraction techniques were used to conduct the mineralogical analysis of three types of laterite ores, and the results were compared with those obtained by chemical analysis. Some of the major challenges faced included accounting for the mismatch between the nickel values measured by QEMSCAN and those recorded by chemical analysis. This was primarily due to the relatively low concentration of nickel in the ores and its wide dissemination among several major host minerals in complex association. Careful analysis showed that the limit of nickel detection in iron oxide host mineral grains under normal operating conditions was around 4%. "The decrease in iron content and increase in contaminants grade, associated with greater participation of compact and semi-compact materials, has impacted the recovery of a mechanical cells flotation circuit in the Iron Quadrangle, Brazil. The recovery decrease in the flotation stage motivated the current conventional flotation circuit reevaluation seeking alternatives to restore the recovery, without affecting the final concentrate quality parameters, with low investment. Sampling, chemical characterization of samples, bench scale flotation experiments, and mass balances were conducted. Analysis of the results showed opportunities to improve the circuit performance. The stages prior to the flotation circuit changes were: rougher, cleaner, recleaner and scavenger. In the previous configuration, recleaner was operated as cleaner scavenger and the iron grade in the scavenger concentrate was 23%, representing 38% of the new feed. After the circuit change, the circulating load was reduced from 38% to 15% and the iron content was upgraded to 42%, resulting in increased residence time. The iron content in the global tailings of the concentrator was decreased from 10.9% (year of 2013 average) to 10.2%, representing gains in both mass and metallurgical recoveries.INTRODUCTIONRegarding plant practice, the year 1972 represents a landmark for the concentration of iron ores in Brazil. VALE started up 28 units of WHIMS (wet high intensity magnetic separators) at the Cauê plant in Itabira, each one producing 1x106 t/year of concentrate. Later 17 WHIMS machines were commissioned at Conceição. During the 80’s decade of last century, changes in the ROM required the addition of a cleaner flotation stage to decrease the silica content in the pellet feed.The first company to use reverse cationic flotation as the only concentration operation of iron ore was SAMARCO (start up in 1977). Since 2015 flotation has been utilized at VALE in Itabira as major concentration process, magnetic separation acting as scavenger stage.The Jones matrix type WHIMS were manufactured for decades under patent by KHD Humboldt Wedag. After the expiration of the Jones patent, Eriez Magnetics took the world leadership regarding WHIMS manufacturing. The Brazilian branch of Eriez is Inbras. Based on plant practice experience at the Fabrica concentrator, the Brazilian company Gaustec was established (RIBEIRO and RIBEIRO, 2010) and is now present in different countries. The mega sized WHIMS GHX-1400 (18.000 Gauss, gaps smaller than 1.5 mm) were developed to face the challenge of huge throughput required by iron ore processing (Ribeiro et al, 2017)."

"Two low grade calcium bentonite (Ca-bentonite) from Hejia (HJ) and Boteng (BT), Shandong, China, mainly contain montmorillonite and quartz, and slightly feldspar, calcite, and montmorillonite content are 32.37% and 55.90%, respectively. In order to examine the feasibility to produce activated clay to meet the standard of Chinese chemical industry (HG/T2569-2007), three types of industrial production process are proposed according to the screen test. The first process is grinding the raw bentonite to -200 mesh and then activating. The second is to activate the raw bentonite directly, and then classify the production to -200 mesh. The last one is to activate the raw bentonite after purification. Three parameters, which are sulphuric acid strength, ratio of liquid to solid and treatment time, are optimized via orthogonal test for every process. The preliminary test indicates that it is feasible to produce acid bentonite of difference quality. For the sample of BT, milling the raw to -200 mesh first and activating afterwards, the parameter is at 15% acid strength, the ratio of liquid to solid 2.5, the time 2 hours, temperature 90°C, the products can meet the qualified grade of high decolorization for petroleum products refining. For the sample of BT, adopting purification to -325 mesh by stirring and rubbing at first, and then activating at 9% acidity, under the conditions that the ratio of liquid to solid is 2, the time is 2 hours and the temperature is 90°C, the products can meet the first grade of high activation degree for petroleum products refining."

"This paper examines the impact of several key variables on the performance of flotation cells. The study makes use of a simulator for the froth phase of the flotation vessel, as the main purpose of this study is to separate the impact of different variables from one another. In experiments it is very difficult to separate the effect of variables from one another as a change in a singe input parameter, such as air rate, invariably also affects many of the other key variables, such as bubble size and bubble bursting rates.In order to achieve this a base case simulation that is typical of many of the rougher cells found in sulphide flotation circuits was carried out. Four key variables, air rate, incoming bubble size, surface bubble size and the fraction of the bubbles flowing out of the cell unburst, were varied in order to obtain the system.s response.The most significant results were obtained when the bubble size was varied. An increase in the incoming bubble size has the effect of reducing the pulp zone recovery, but increases the froth zone recovery. If it were possible to vary the incoming bubble size without influencing the overflowing bubble size, the impact of the change would be unclear because of these two competing effects. The effect of a change in the overflowing bubble size has an opposite effect on the froth recovery, with larger bubbles resulting in lower froth recoveries.A final interesting result is that all the effects examined affect the process to a similar degree, which implies that none of these variables can be disregarded, either in industry or in further research."

"The purpose of this research is the development of a technology for processing the concentration tailings of limonite ores at Kamysh-Burun Mining and Processing Complex into an iron- containing product for ROMELT process. In the concentration and metallurgical processing of iron ores, substantial amounts of waste are generated (tailings, slimes, slags, metallurgical dust, etc.) that can be converted into a commercial product if is properly processed. This article presents the results of experimental studies of the feasibility of processing iron- containing tailings of Kamysh-Burun deposit (slimes from Verkhne-Churbash storage facility (VCh sample) and dumped waste of Kamysh-Burun (KB sample)) to obtaining valuable components for further uses. Applying Mossbauer spectroscopy has been shown that the iron minerals in the studied samples are technogenic varieties of iron hydroxides. The most suitable technology is the magnetic roasting process, since iron hydroxides are easily transformed into a magnetic, easily recoverable form. Have been shown the advantages of a two-stage magnetic separation, in a strong field and with polygradient separators. Concentrating this material through magnetic methods makes it possible to increase the iron content to 20-21 %. Magnetic concentration of the deeper layers materials results in iron- containing concentrates with a total iron content of up to 58% whit a phosphorus content of about 2%. Reducing the phosphorus content is possible by blending upper and lower layers of the material at a ratio of 1:1. Thus, it is possible to process the material accumulated in the slime storage facility using the ROMELT process combined with preliminary three-stage magnetic concentration and disposal of tailings with the permissible iron content of less than 5%. Wastes from smelting will be slags suitable for use in construction industry. The Kamysh-Burun material preparation for ROMELT process should be performed applying gravity-washing with separation of the -0.4 mm fraction and additional blending for dephosphorizing the concentrate. The smelting will produce pig iron and slag."
