Water use and wastewater management is becoming a focus for many industries around Australia and the rest of the world. Good quality water is increasingly being recognised as a precious resource, and regulations on the bulk storage and discharge of waste streams is becoming more stringent in order to protect the environment, existing water reserves and the communities that use these resources. Components such as heavy metals, arsenic, cyanide, and sulfate from acid mine drainage are some that occur at mining and metallurgical processing sites. Removal of such components can allow safe re-use of these streams, reducing the new water requirements of the process, or else allowing acceptable discharge to the environment. Re-use or discharge of treated water eliminates or reduces the risk associated with storage of large volumes of contaminated water on site.Technologies where a contaminant is selectively precipitated and removed as a sludge are used for many of these treatments. Selection of the best treatment option for wastewater must depend on what is suitable to each site, and consider not only the nature of the contaminant, but also other aspects, including the location and situation of the site, local regulations, cost of reagents, the sensitivity of the local environment and waste sludge disposal options. To outline how an effective and economical solution can be designed and delivered, this paper will present a case study for the removal of arsenic from a site wastewater, from assessment of the problem, selection of suitable technology, design and implementation, to the benefits delivered to the site.CITATION:Salokannel, A, Nevatalo, L M, Martikainen, M, van der Meer, T and McCulloch, J, 2013. The adverse health impacts from diesel particulate matter (DPM) exposure are a well-known global concern. The building evidence has triggered underground mining operations to review existing atmospheric conditions and assess the scale of the challenge faced. South32’s Cannington Mine (Cannington) evaluated the ability to provide a healthy atmosphere from a whole mine approach, taking into account existing preventative controls including: maintenance strategies, fuel quality, mining operations, ventilation provisions, monitoring protocols and effective education and training programs.During the evaluation process, Cannington gave due recognition to the advice and guidance provided in the Queensland Guidance Note 21 (QGN21), the Guidelines of New South Wales’ MDG29 and Mining Industry Advisory Committee (MIAC) of Western Australia. Each of these documents advises a dilution rate of >0.06 m3/s/kW is best for reduction of DPM exposure in underground mines.Achieving the prescribed mine ventilation rate typically results in the need to directly invest significant capital into increasing ventilation infrastructure in order to further dilute contaminants. In today’s economic market of volatile metal prices and increasing pressures to meet regulatory requirements, it can become challenging for established metalliferous operations to create a balance between optimisation of current ventilation infrastructure and capital outlay.In order to obtain and correctly justify the requirements for capital investiture Cannington conducted a ventilation operational analysis for the life-of-operation, identifying the existing air volume envelope was adequate for current and future production rates by optimising existing primary ventilation infrastructure through the implementation of a modified ventilation on demand (VoD) and air conservation system.This process achieved sustainable operating and capital cost reductions without compromising delivery of adequate ventilation to work areas. The process also recognised that engaging mine workers’ ownership of their work areas is crucial to maintaining a technically efficient and operationally robust ventilation system.This paper will concentrate on Cannington’s existing preventative controls, their implementation and their management for the prevention of increased DPM exposure; reducing the risk of both short and long-term health impacts to ‘as low as reasonably achievable’ (ALARA).CITATION:Black, J and Reid, D, 2017. The market has become highly competitive for engineering and equipment vendors, who are challenged to reduce costs while improving efficiency and productivity of mine operations through plant improvements and expansions. Although conveyor transfer systems account for a small percentage of the infrastructure cost of a mine, they form an integral part of the process supply chain. Malfunctions or suboptimal performance can result in substantial financial cost from delayed start-up, unscheduled downtime, reduced throughput and increased maintenance costs.Discrete element modelling (DEM) is a powerful simulation method used to virtually prototype and test the performance of transfer equipment throughout a design cycle. When developed and applied correctly, DEM can provide insight into performance that exceeds the traditional analytical methods, especially when dealing with complex ore properties, behaviour and/or situations.Using case studies sourced from the authors’ recent research and industrial project work, this paper will address the industry goal to increase efficiency and productivity as well as the methods available to the engineers responsible for delivering designs that meet the aims of this strategic approach.The main focus of the paper will be the new calibration technology, which has been developed by the authors to generate DEM material models that are linked to real-world properties and flow behaviours via unique dynamic testing and innovative parameter calibration methods. These calibrated DEM material models can be deployed by engineers into their existing workflows, whether it be for feasibility studies, concept or final design, plant troubleshooting or optimisation.This new technology allows engineers to gain greater insight than that provided by traditional approaches to the design of transfer chutes and other process equipment and also allows informed design decisions to be made that meet industry efficiency and productivity requirements.CITATION:Grima, A P, Curry, D and Wypych, P W, 2015. Particles of nickel flash furnace malle (45 per cent i) were oxidized in a dropping-particle furnace. The particles melted and the molten drops simulated those produced by the atomization of molten matte. The partly oxidized droplets were quenched and then reacted with silica flux to form high-grade matte (70 per cent i) and a fayalite slag. This paper describes the experimental equipment and deals with chemical aspects of the investigation such as volatile impurity distribution and thermodynamic considerations. The overall behaviour of minor elements such as Cu, Co, As and Pb was similar to that observed in conventional converting.

"The Nyrstar Port Pirie Smelter, located on the eastern shore of the Upper Spencer Gulf in South Australia 230km north of Adelaide, began operation in 1889 to process lead concentrate from the Broken Hill lead and silver mines. The site still operates an updraft sinter machine, commissioned in 1955, with the product fed into a blast furnace. While sinter plant technology has changed and improved since 1955, development has reached the stage where further enhancements are not possible or economic. High purity lead concentrates command lower margins and for the smelter to remain economically viable a wider range of higher value materials must be treated. The current flowsheet cannot meet this demand. Additionally, community blood lead levels particularly in children below four years of age, are a critical indicator used to measure the site’s environmental performance. The smelter’s environmental licence to operate is dependent on meeting future community and regulatory expectations. To achieve this a major step change in the emission performance of the smelter is required. Since 2008 pre-feasibility work has been undertaken to develop a new flowsheet and business model to allow Port Pirie to operate sustainably into the future. The main requirements were for the smelter to reduce lead and sulfur dioxide emissions that impact on the local environment and community to meet current and future environmental expectations, as well as dramatically reducing current feed constraints and change the business case from a marginal business to a sustainable profitable business. After reviewing all practical options a decision was made to replace the sinter plant with an Outotec Top Submerged Lance (TSL) furnace. This paper describes how the new furnace technology was selected and how it will be integrated into the present flowsheet; the unique funding arrangements that are in place to deliver the redeveloped site; and future opportunities that are associated with the implementation of the new flowsheet. A rotating disc of precipitant zinc in a single stage flow reactor was used to study the effects of deposit mass on the reaction kinetics of copper cementing on to zinc from dilute aqueous solutions.The reaction rate is controlled by external mass transport and the mass transfer coefficient (relative to the original precipitant area) is dependent on the quantity of deposit present. For deposit masses up to about 0·3 mg/cm2 the mass transfer coefficient (first order rate constant) is that expected for the counter-diffusion of reactant and product cations through a laminar boundary layer to a smooth rotating disc. For depositmasses from 0·3 mg/cm2 to about 5 mg/cm2, the mass transfer coefficient increases significantly with deposit mass. For deposit masses greater than 5 mg/cm2 and at least up to 12 mg/cm2, the mass transfer coefficient has again a constant value which is some four to seven times the initial ("deposit free") value. The rate constant for the entire range of deposit masses studied (0 to 12 mg/cm2 ) can be expressed empirically as a cumulative normal distribution of the logarithm of the deposit mass.The enhancement in the mass transfer coefficient for deposit masses greater than 5 mg/cm2 relative to the initial mass transfer coefficient depends on the local operating conditions and increases with increasing disc rotational speed. This enhancement is, however, independent of the previous history of reaction rates.

During the past two years, a large number of creep tests has been carried out on electrolytic lead, special assay lead and ordinary refined (Port Pirie) lead. Some of these tests have already been reported.1§ In addition, an attempt has been made to estimate the influence of the individual elements present in small traces in Port Pirie lead. The present paper gives the results obtained when small additions are made to "U" lead of the composition shown in Table 1.(which has been used throughout these investigations during the past few years). The additions were silver, antimony, bismuth and zinc. The results of the addition of tellurium have already been communicated. This investigation was intended to run parallel with a similar one using electrolytic lead as a basis and adding one element at a time.Actually, the experiments using "U" lead have got rather ahead of the others. The important point has emerged, however, that the effect of a .given addition may be appreciably influenced by the presence of traces of other elements.In most of these tests, an initial stress of 500lb. per sq. in. has been used. This paper is a case study highlighting learnings and success in two areas challenging underground miners: change management and collaboration. It examines the implementation process of a new automated loading system in the bulk stoping area of Telfer Mine in Western Australia, controlling multiple load haul dump machines. Here, the new technology has brought together different functions and different companies to deliver a well performing automation system in a changing and challenging mining environment. The introduction of a new and different technology on site has driven collaboration between all stakeholders to break down the traditional barriers to achieve the sustained performance required. Historically, different teams have operated within silos and not always aligned to deliver a ‘best for project’ solution. Technical teams focus on the mine design, maintenance teams focus on reliability and operations execute the plan. Mining contractors focus on productivity and cost. Manufacturers focus on supply of goods and service. Optimising each silo individually is not guaranteed to provide an optimal mining solution. Involving elements from each team as seen at Telfer, has resulted in an optimal mining solution for the automated loading system. A change of focus from the technical teams to include automation parameters in the mine design; operability and maintainability built into the system design allowing for collective ownership and responsibility resulting in a more resilient solution. The implementation of the new technology was not only a technical change but more importantly, successful management of change. Elements of successful change management such as communication, vision, leadership and planning, are essential to harness a trusting site culture which is responsive to new technology. Learnings and challenges from this change process will also be discussed with the intent to improve the success rate and timelines of technology implementations in the future.

Operational readiness is a commonly used term in mining and many other industry settings. However, translating this term into a coherent scope of work that is practical and meaningful is a challenge faced by many mining projects. This inhibits the allocation of resources to the work and its completion. The problem is with understanding how the terminology applies to establishing a mining operation. Resolving this problem requires clarity around what operational readiness means for a mining project’s transition to operations and who owns the tasks of completing operational readiness. The motivation for resolution of this problem is in appreciating the consequences arising from any lack of clarity in definition of this task, the timing of the work, and ownership for its completion. In broad terms, these consequences amount to an erosion of value at a critical time for both the new mine and the company and shareholders. This situation often arises where operational readiness is not adequately addressed in project’s study phases. As a result, neither time, resources nor money are adequately provided to complete the work required. In other cases, operational readiness is sometimes assimilated with the delivery of the project’s physical assets by the project’s construction team, rather than aligned with the establishment of the operating team to deliver the desired operational outputs. This paper argues that operational readiness starts in a project’s study phases and flows through into the start of operations. The definition of operational readiness is discussed as a task, and a model for its planning and completion is presented. This discussion includes assigning ownership for operational readiness planning and delivery to the General Manager of a new operation and the operations leadership team, who are central to the success of this work. After all, the reputations of this leadership team depend on the performance of the operation in its first few years. The author’s work over the last 20 years, leading operational readiness programs and the preparation of feasibility studies for mining projects, has provided the insights and evolution of ideas that are central to this paper. Operational readiness is fundamentally directed at ensuring a new mining operation gets away to a successful start and builds a solid foundation for the future of the mine/operation/province. It requires clarity of purpose, ownership and coordination by people in the operating team, and their preparation of the requisite process definition and establishment of the significant relationships required for operations. Without its successful completion, it is unlikely the new operation will meet and sustain its start-up targets. This paper discusses a practical approach to operational readiness for mining projects.

Definition and delineation of in-pit ore and waste material are the most significant tasks for an open pit production geologist; adding or destroying value in the mining value chain. Anglo American’s Mogalakwena Platinum mine, an open pit operation in South Africa moving 100 Mt/a, has recognised the value of improved material definition and is in the process of changing from blasthole to reverse circulation (RC) sampling for in-pit grade control. This is aimed at obtaining more representative samples, which are required to maximise ore recovery, minimise waste dilution and to increase the accuracy and confidence of production forecasts. Early in the project, it was realised that the key risks for implementing RC grade control were related to change management processes, rather than failure of technology. Recognising the importance of this issue, Mogalakwena chose an integrated implementation approach that incorporates all stakeholders of the mining cycle in order to develop a process that delivers maximum value and is sustainable within an active mining environment. The following core goals were addressed over five phases of project implementation: extensive definition and design of integrated project implementation, comprising: project buy-in and ownership from all key stakeholders, including survey, geology, mine planning, drill and blast, load and haul, maintenance, supply chain and finance; and detailed analysis of all potential issues and possible solutions, allocated to stakeholders as part of the scoping process; optimising hole patterns and drilling procedures, focusing on delivering maximum value for minimum cost using multiple scenario analysis from borehole data and operational sequencing requirements; and evaluation of lessons learnt during project implementation in order to optimise the technical solution and operational efficiencies. Although this project is not yet finalised, Mogalakwena Platinum Mine is already providing a blueprint for the effective development, implementation and optimisation of sustainable in-pit grade control RC drilling for other open pit mines within Anglo American plc.

An overview is given of two new developments in mine atmospheric monitoring. A new personal dust monitor (PDM) that gives real-time respirable dust readings is discussed. The unit is mounted within the minerÆs cap lamp battery and internally measures the true particle mass of dust collected on its filter. Samples are available for later mineralogical analysis and results do not exhibit the same sensitivity to water spray as optically-based measurement approaches. The technique achieves microgram-level mass resolution even in the hostile mine environment and reports dust loading data on a continuous basis. The monitor has been evaluated under an Australian Coal Association Research Program (ACARP) grant and is being adopted for statutory mine respirable dust determinations in the United States (US). The monitor has particular application for determining location of high dust sources. It can evaluate the efficiency of engineering means of suppression and other approaches to reducing dust levels. It has been recognised that the PDMÆs unique measurement approach has application to allow real-time atmospheric diesel particulate matter (DPM) monitoring. The industry has no real-time atmospheric DPM monitor at present. Recent surveys in New South Wales and Queensland show significant numbers of miners continue to face full shift DPM exposures in excess of internationally accepted levels. Real-time DPM monitoring will allow the industry to pinpoint high exposure zones where a number of trucks and other vehicles work in areas of poor ventilation. Knowledge of high DPM concentration zones allows efficient modification of work practices to reduce underground minersÆ exposure. Approaches to uses of the DPM form of the monitor and the design of tag boards are discussed. Some outcomes from mine tests with both these new instruments are given.

In recent years, there has had a greater recurrence of studies and projects that consider tailings filtration followed by dry stacking to reduce the consumption of fresh water, the space required for disposal, and, eventually, to reduce the costs of the project. In addition, this technique could be required to meet new environmental restrictions to extend the life-of-mine of existing plants or to enable the development of new projects, especially in areas of high social interest. This article is intended to describe the most relevant technical aspects of the design and implementation of an iron ore tailings filtering system and its final overland disposal as well as physical and metallurgical surveys, and laboratory and pilot testing. Furthermore, it is presented how these activities are inserted in the project development to rationalise the resources. The case under study considers an iron mineral wet magnetic concentration processing plant. The outcome tailings are dewatered by means of thickeners, where the overflow water is recycled back to the plant. The underflow slurry is pumped into intermediate storage tanks before proceeding with further dewatering and final disposal. The project consists of a tailings filtration plant, belt conveying systems, a temporary stockpiling system, trucking loading and transportation system, moisture-conditioning facilities (spreading and airing), and final disposal facilities (compacting). Due to the stickiness of the filtered tailings that governs the belt conveying system design, the operating moisture range must be established. Besides, proper technical aspects such as planning, executing, and analysing both the laboratory and the pilot testing data to validate process design parameters; selecting filters; defining spare filtering capacity; handling the out-of-range filtrated moisture; sizing the belt conveying system; configuring the equipment involved, must be considered.

"Minerals, minerals, minerals. Elements occur in the earth as minerals. If local physical, chemical and structural conditions are conducive to concentrating these minerals to sufficiently high abundances in the earth’s crust, a mineral deposit will form. If technology is available to extract metals from the minerals economically, then you have a mineral resource that will be mined and processed. Determining which minerals are present and quantifying their abundances, textural characteristics (grain size and shape) and how they are intergrown with each other is the realm of the mineralogist. Geologists use this mineralogical data to understand how the mineral deposit formed, how to find high-grade zones within the deposit and where to find other mineral deposits. Metallurgists use this data to design, operate and optimise processing facilities to extract metals from the minerals. The types, quantity and precision/resolution of the mineralogical data required by geologists and metallurgists are different, but are not mutually exclusive of each other. The life cycle of a mining project begins with initial regional exploration and ends with mine closure and rehabilitation. Between resource definition and the commencement of mine construction is the study phase. In this phase technical concepts and processes are defined, evaluated and assessed with the aim of establishing whether the deposit is economically feasible. The study phase usually involves various steps from a concept/scoping study to prefeasibility and ultimately definitive feasibility study. The complete study phase can take several years. Although the costs for studies are low in comparison to actual construction and operating costs of a mining project, they are significant especially for junior exploration and mining companies advancing projects to the point of being funded.The studies aim to determine selected parameters for the project, eg mining and processing methods, operating strategy, etc and provide a roadmap for project development ahead. Although mining studies are of the utmost importance for the mining project and the project owner, they are usually carried out using a conventional engineering approach: the consultant or design engineer works to a defined scope of work. The resulting design might be based on good engineering, but might often also fail to provide the solution for the project owner that delivers the best shareholder value. An alternative to this more traditional approach to project evaluation is what we have termed a value engineering approach. Value engineering is a creative, organised effort, which in the case of a mining study analyses the requirements of the study for the purpose of achieving the essential outcomes with the highest shareholder value. The outcome of a study is a concept that delivers the highest achievable value of the resource project and shows the way ahead to realise this value. Through a group investigation by experienced, multi-disciplinary teams the value of the resource is improved through the study of alternative options, methods and processes. The scope of the study is not limited to a narrowly defined engineering scope, but to the creation of value.The study commences with the identification of key value drivers and risks, based on the available information (drill data, geotechnical data, metallurgical test work, etc). This enables the quantification of key uncertainties, risks and value adding opportunities. Study efforts concentrate on key value drivers and are not unnecessarily spent on side issues. In developing mineral resources, the focus typically centres on the management of identified social and environmental impacts and compliance with regulatory requirements. However, opportunities to protect and enhance the environment and communities are most effective in the planning and design phases. Achieving the objective of integrating sustainability considerations as an element of design decision making requires that the design criteria be technically sound, relevant to the project and applicable to desired design outcomes. This is particularly important for projects employing virtual teaming, where design engineers may be geographically dispersed and are unlikely to be familiar with site specific sustainability challenges and opportunities. This paper documents the approach taken by BHP Billiton to incorporate sustainability principles, objectives and guidelines in design criteria for the Olympic Dam Expansion (ODX) project. It describes the range of inputs used in defining sustainability objectives which interface in a framework that is dynamic and transferable to other mining projects and to engineering design in general. The Sustainability in Design Criteria document distils statutory requirements, corporate standards, lessons learned and leading industry practice into a single coherent framework that supports engineers to approach problem solving as a holistic and integrated exercise with a long term perspective. The framework also serves to improve linkages between internal stakeholders by fostering greater communication, collaboration and innovation to deliver more sustainable outcomes through the design process.

The state of sampling practice in South African minerals industry must be appreciated in the context of the changes that the country has recently lived through. These include the entrepreneurship and investment in local mineral developments, the 'unbundling of mineral assets', the rising foreign control of South Africa's mineral assets, developments in the regulatory environment, and the training that has come to the industry through international experts. In terms of their financial contribution the five most important commodities in the South African mining industry include gold, platinum, non-ferrous metals, ferrous metals, and coal. International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards form the basis for international trade in two of these commodities and have had a steadying influence on sampling practice over the years. The contribution of the minerals industry to the economic well-being of South Africa and the strong financial links between good sampling practice and minerals marketing, has acted as a driver for improved sampling practice. The state of sampling practice at mining operations of the five main commodities was found to be quite widely divergent with 'pockets of sampling excellence' in each of the commodities. The stages of mineral development at mines for each of the commodities have been described in terms of the sampling sites, sampling mechanisms, and associated problems at different stages of mineral production from exploration, through face sampling, blasthole sampling, and in-mine grade control, ore processing and handling, metallurgical subsampling, process subsampling, and subsampling in the laboratory. In each case the principal errors were identified and their potential impact on value erosion was estimated. In the final analysis it is evident that the greatest problems arise in the early stage of mineral development, and that ferrous metals and coal are particularly susceptible to loss of value through poor sampling practice. Several examples of value lost through poor sampling at the marketing stage that arise from breaching contract specifications, either in terms of grade or sizing, are described. The conclusion is that larger companies with larger ore deposits and greater human, financial, and capital resources are probably more compliant with 'best sampling practice' than smaller companies. Finally the message that equipment suppliers are sending is that business is booming and the awakened awareness of the issues around sampling practice are translating into rands and cents spent on improved sampling equipment.

The economic success of cave mining projects is significantly influenced by the secondary fragmentation size distribution of the caved orebody and making the fragmented ore available for extraction. If the cave does not propagate as predicted, it may lead to stalled cave growth and/or localised preferential caving. This can cause significant ore loss and the inclusion of excessive waste in draw columns, both of which damage the economic value of the project. Uncontrolled caving can have severe consequences for the safety and economics of mines. Such safety risks include air blasts due to the formation of excessive air gaps and damage to infrastructure due to surface subsidence. Monitoring the cave-back delivers critical feedback that is required to exert control over its propagation and reduce the likelihood of adverse consequences. Current methods for monitoring cave propagation include access through open holes, microseismic monitoring systems, time domain reflectometers and extensometers. All of these monitoring systems rely on stable holes for installation and ongoing data collection. However, cables in holes often get sheared due to ground movement in the seismogenic zone well ahead of the cave front, rendering the systems useless. To resolve this issue, Elexon Mining, with the support of Rio Tinto, developed the Networked Smart Marker system, which is based on Elexon’s Smart Marker technology. This system provides a more robust and versatile alternative to other cave monitoring systems as the data is transmitted wirelessly through rock, and thus is not vulnerable to hole shearing/dislocation experienced with current cave monitoring systems. Installations at the Argyle block cave have proven that the Networked Smart Maker system can continue to provide information on the cave-back’s location long after all conventional monitoring systems have failed. ThyssenKrupp specialises in the manufacture of high-grade steel-sheet products. Its main customers include the automotive, construction, household appliance, energy and packaging industries.At its works in Duisburg, Germany, ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe produces 12 Mt of crude steel annually, making Duisburg one of the world’s largest steel hubs.ThyssenKrupp have installed an online elemental analyser and limestone dosing control System on one of three Sinter strands at Duisburg in an attempt to control the sinter raw mix with better precision. Traditionally, set point changes to the raw mixture were made after sampling and laboratory analysis of the sinter product. The analyser chosen uses prompt gamma neutron activation analysis to determine the elemental content of moving material on a conveyor each minute and was supplied by Thermo Fisher Scientific. The project goal was to control the CaO/SiO2 ratio (basicity) and reduce its variability in the sinter feed.Evaluation of the system has shown that the addition of the online analyser reduces the time lag related to the former method, therefore upset conditions can be reacted more quickly by the control system, and this has resulted in a more stable sintering process. As a result, the sinter feed variability in case of the basicity has been reduced by half. While CaO/SiO2 control was the initial aim of the project, a number of other benefi ts have been realised, such as a reduction in return fi nes and a financial benefi t of 0.11 €/ton of sinter attributed to the reduction of coke breeze and limestone. ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe has identifi ed that additional information available from the analyser could be used to optimise the complete sinter process.The project was carried out with a financial grant of the research program of the ‘Research Fund for Coal and Steel’.

Roy Hill is a large iron ore mining, processing, railing and port operation in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Since delivering its first shipments to customers in December 2015, Roy Hill has quickly achieved a 60 Mtpa production rate of lump and fines products. The process plant, principally consisting of wet scrubbing, screening and de-sanding unit processes, was expanded from early 2020 to include operation of a Wet High Intensity Magnetic Separation (WHIMS) Plant. The WHIMS Plant treats tailings to recover approximately 4 Mtpa of ultra-fine (nominally -150 μm) high-grade hematitic concentrate which, after dewatering, is blended into the fines product. Unlike typical hematite concentrates, which consist largely of dense particles with smooth surfaces, the WHIMS concentrate is characterised by very finely microporous hematitic/goethitic particles, reflecting the overall characteristics of the Roy Hill deposit. Detailed test work has been conducted in collaboration with CSIRO to characterise the WHIMS concentrate in terms of its physical and mineralogical properties, and to determine its influence on the granulation and sintering performance of Roy Hill fines – from fundamental/lab-scale and sinterpot perspectives. The results demonstrate that blending of the high-grade hematitic Roy Hill WHIMS concentrate into the fines product can maintain overall sinter quality and positively influence granulation and sinter melt formation, as well as Fe grade.
