The integration of three-dimensional (3D) data with infrared thermography has received much attention for its potential use as input data for building energy simulations. Therefore, researchers have proposed methods to integrate 3D data with infrared thermography obtained by different sensors. These studies show the potential of the integration of 3D data and infrared thermography using various systems. However, these studies have ignored property aspects of infrared thermography, such as the low resolution of infrared thermography and external environmental influences. Thus, their proposed methods to integrate 3D data and infrared thermography are inadequate because these problems can affect the resulting building energy simulation. This research proposes a framework that integrates infrared thermography and 3D data while accounting for the resolution and shadow effect of infrared thermography. The proposed framework consists of three steps. In the resolution enhancement step, bi-cubic interpolation is proposed. In thermal data correction from the shadow effect, the shadow area is detected from the visible image, and then the shadow effect is removed from the registered infrared thermography. Finally, enhanced infrared thermography is mapped to the 3D data obtained by a laser scanner. The performance of the proposed framework was evaluated using test images obtained from a building in operation. The experimental results show that the proposed framework provides a 3D thermal model that is useful and accurate in simulating building energy. It is expected that the 3D thermal model can be used for accurate energy simulation of existing buildings. In addition, the proposed framework can be applied in defect detection for buildings. Furthermore, this novel approach enhances infrared thermography using visible images.

Anglo American has used the extractant M 5640 in all the Divisions, which is an aldoxime modified with TXIB formulation, except in Los Bronces, where an aldoxime modified with tridecanol (TDA) formulation is used. It is a well-known fact that the aldoxime degrades while the modifier does not. With time the aldoxime/modifier ratio decreases significantly depending on the operating conditions of each plant. In order to evaluate the effect of this increasing modifier content in the organic of the plant, especially in the organic losses, a complete metallurgical test work program was started at laboratory and pilot plant scale. Results showed that the addition of aldoxime without modifier does not affect the chemical performance of the organic phase, but there is a significant decrease in the viscosity and density of the organic phase. Based on the results obtained in the metallurgical program, it was decided to run plant scale tests at both SX plants, Mantos Blancos and Mantoverde. In these tests, instead of adding the usual formulation of aldoxime modified with TXIB to maintain the organic inventory, CuPRO MEX™ 3406 which is an aldoxime without modifier is going to be added until the original aldoxime/modifier ratio is reached. The plant tests started in April 2013 at Mantos Blancos and in June 2013 at Mantoverde and will last 18 months. The results obtained at the laboratory and pilot plant scale, together with the preliminary plant test results, are discussed in this paper.

"IntroductionAT NORANDA, the strength of the ore and wall-rocks per-mitted mining in large open stopes. While some of the orebodies were small and could be mined out in one stope, in most cases their size was such that it was essential that ore pillars be left during the first stage of mining. In these cases, backfilling has been necessary for ground control and to facilitate the later recovery of the ore in these pillars.This paper discusses the development of the •backfill and •its use in pillar recovery.GeologyThe ore bodies at Noranda occur as replacement deposits in a block of rhyolite flows and breccias, bounded on the north by the Horne Creek fault and on the south by the Noranda Andesite fault. Mineralization consists of pyrite, pyrrhotite, magnetite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, gold, and various tellurides.The main orebody is a massive sulphide deposit designated the 'H' orebody. It is elliptical in plan, measuring roughly 400 feet by 800 feet, and is divided into two zones -Upper H, extending from surface to the 1,500-foot level, and Lower H, from the 1 ,500-foot level to just below the 3,000-foot level.Mining MethodsOpen stope mining in both Upper H and Lower H zones has been fully described in previous publications (1). A brief review only of the mining methods will be given here."

"IMBSRE, one of the largest rare earth element (REE) producers in China, produces a rare earth oxide (REO) concentrate as a by-product by floating the middlings stream from a low intensity magnetic separation step in the main iron ore processing stage. As the mine depth has increased, flowsheet changes in the main iron ore circuit have reduced the REO grade and increased the magnetite to REO ratio in the middling product used as flotation feed for the REO circuit. Extensive laboratory work was carried out and identified a new modified hydroxamic acid product, Florrea 8920, that could provide better metallurgical results over the standard hydroxamic acid used as the main collector. This paper briefly reviews the use of hydroxamates in the flotation of oxide minerals, provides detailed information on the different hydroxamates available from Florrea and then provides a case study of the successful implementation of the Florrea 8920 product in a commercial Chinese REE flotation plant. The case study consists of a one year program of pilot plant testing and industrial trials to confirm the results of laboratory tests. The implementation of the new collector resulted in an improvement in grade and recovery to 61% and 64% respectively. The new collector also provided significant economic and environmental benefits.INTRODUCTIONThe flotation of rare earth element (REE) bearing minerals is a topic which has been dominated in the English language literature by the work conducted on the Mountain Pass bastnäsite deposit (Pradip, 1981; Fuerstenau, Pradip, Khan, & Raghavan, 1982; Pradip & Fuerstenau, 1983, 1985, 2013; Fuerstenau & Pradip, 1991; Fuerstenau, Pradip, & Herrera-Urbina, 1992; Herrera-Urbina, Pradip, & Fuerstenau, 2013). By far the most important collector type used for the flotation of rare earth minerals (REM) is hydroxamates. These reagents were initially extensively described as REM collectors in the English literature by Pradip (1981) however they have been successfully applied to numerous other minerals such as: cassiterite (Sreenivas & Padmanabhan, 2002); pyrochlore (Gibson, Kelebek, Aghamirian, & Yu, 2015); hematite, chrysocolla, rhodonite, hubnerite and pyrolusite (Fuerstenau, 2005); and malachite (Lenormand, Salman, & Yoon, 1979) amongst others."

The operation of SAG mills is variable over time due to their continually changing liner shape, mass and subsequent load motion. However, this tends to be poorly accommodated in liner design and mill control, with only limited compensation made for this influence, usually in the first few weeks after a new liner is installed. With ever-increasing ore competency, increasing energy costs and decreasing ore grades, simplified design and operational approaches that compromise the achievable mill efficiency are no longer adequate. This paper presents a methodology that has been developed to measure and account for the changes in mill performance as the liner wears. This involves monitoring all liner profiles ? in other words the three-dimensional liner shape - over the life of the liner, then conducting controlled surveys at different stages of the liner wear life, and correlating the mill performance to the liner profiles. The measured liner mass is modelled to provide an ongoing meaningful load mass measure that excludes the liner mass.

THE object in prospecting is to find ore. With the exception of certain discoveries of more or less accidental nature, intelligent prospecting as conducted today is, whether consciously or not, based upon a process of elimination. In the following discuss on it is proposed to evaluate those factors that enter into the eliminating of certain tracts of ground and, conyersely, the concentrating of attention upon others. The danger of generalizations as to the barrenness of cer.ain areas, without having due regard for all such factors, is emphasized. The fact that our conception as to what areas or rock formations are to be regarded as favourable or unfavourable is, in some measure at least, changing with new discoveries under diverse and unexpected circumstances, adds more point to the discussion. The criticism might be raised that the subject is treated largely from the standpoint of geology, but that may be met by stating that it is, and must continue to remain, precisely from this standpoint that the prospecror directs his activities. Briefly, the geologist may render the greatest service to the prospector in the early steps of selecting (a) the general territory in which to prospect; (b) the area to be intensively prospected; and, finally, (c) those parts of the claim or claims to be prospected in detail. Although certain phases of the discussion will be, in some measure, of general application, we shall here concern ourselves essentially with prospecting in the pre-Cambrian shield. Furthermore, the subject is so large that it has been decided to limit it to a consideration of that portion of the pre-Cambrian rocks in which is situated the mining district of western Quebec, of which the writer can speak with more personal knowledge. This limitation need not, however, seriously detract from whatever merit the discussion may possess, since the deposits concerned cover a fairly wide range of metallic ores, including gold, copper with associated zinc, and, lastly, molybdenum.

THE gold deposits of the Pioneer and Bralorne mines, in the Bridge River district of British Columbia, are closely associated with a long, narrow intrusive body of extremely variable composition, outcropping on the northeast side of Cadwallader creek and lying almost entirely within the property boundaries of the two companies. Other masses of the same type of intrusive rock are found in the district, more or less along the line of the main axis of the Pioneer-Bralorne in trusive, and have associated with them variable amounts of gold-quartz mineralization (Figure 1). The ore deposits of the district have been the subject of investigation by officers of the Geological Survey of Canada at various times during the past 25 years, and articles on the geology and mines of the district have been published by various individuals in technical journals. The Detour Lake gold project is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 km northeast of Timmins, within the Abitibi greenstone belt in the northwestern portion of the Archean Superior Province. Historically this greenstone belt has produced approximately 180 million ounces of gold, largely from narrow vein underground mining. The Detour Lake project is a site of extensive past exploration since 1974, as well as underground and limited open pit mining activity from 1983 to 1999. During this period, it produced 1.8 million ounces of gold. Underground mining focused on narrow vein conventional shrinkage and mechanized longhole stoping. After acquiring the property in January 2007, Detour Gold Corporation initiated a comprehensive drill campaign to define the potential for a large, open pitable, low-grade gold deposit. From 2007 to present, Detour Gold has completed over 500,000 metres of diamond drilling. A technical report completed in March 2011 defined an open pit mineral reserve of 14.9 million ounces of gold, which is Canada's largest undeveloped gold reserve. The Detour Lake project is currently in development and infrastructure construction of the mine facilities started at year-end 2010, after all the necessary Provincial regulatory permits were received. Gold production is expected to commence in early 2013. Gold mineralization at Detour Lake is associated with a large scale deformation zone (Sunday Lake Deformation Zone; "SLDZ") that occurs at the contact between the 2.72 Ga Deloro Group mafic metavolcanics and the 2.69 Ga Porcupine Assemblage metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks. The bulk of the gold mineralization is found in the hanging wall of the SLDZ, which is associated with a stockwork of auriferous quartz veins that splay from a flexure along the deformation corridor. The mineralization forms a 200-350 metres wide auriferous corridor defined over 3 kilometres along the strike of the mafic metavolcanic assemblage, from surface to at least 1,000 metres depth. The richest gold mineralized zones are commonly associated with quartz veins with a strong biotite alteration and local zones of pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite-pyrite-gold enrichment formed during the deformation of the quartz vein system.

Originally developed as a step change in ultrafine grinding efficiency, the IsaMill? has made inroads into conventional ball mill and tower mill mainstream grinding duties during the last 5 years - beginning with the Anglo Platinum mainstream grinding projects in South Africa. At the 2006 SAG Conference, plant testwork on the incorporation of IsaMill? technology into the McArthur River (Northern Territory, Australia) Pb/Zn primary grinding circuit was reported. The IsaMill? has now become an integral component of that circuit, treating up to 1mm top size feed and directly producing P80 45 µm rougher flotation feed. Two 1.1 MW IsaMills? are now used in this duty contributing to a 27% increase in overall plant throughput and a reduction in rougher feed size distribution. In this paper, we report on the current state of development and performance of the IsaMill? in the primary grinding duty at McArthur River and also consider future directions.

At the Sullivan Mine, recent experience with sulphide fires, locally referred to as " hot muck", has necessitated extensive modifications to pillar mining design and operating procedures. Potentially hot pillars are now being designed and mined to prevent fires. Unusual safety hazards and difficulties are encountered in working with, and adjacent. to, existing pillar fires. Operating procedures developed for these conditions have proved successful for safe and continuing production. These changes have minimized the impact of hot ore on current operations and have promise for an improved future.

This paper is an attempt to place Canadian Precambrian volcanogenic deposits in perspective, by examining and compiling data regarding certain neglected fundamentals of size, grade, value, frequency distribution and spatial density. The discovery roles played by various exploration methods are compared and contrasted, and. using empirical methods, the probabilities of discovery are discussed, combined with the use of an effective 'cost-per-target' program. From these basic observations, realistic exploration judgments may be made. Using similar methodology, this format may be applied to other types of deposits. Precambrian volcanogenic deposits occur in a natural geometric progression in size. They number 110, of which 70% are pre-producers, producers or past-producers. These deposits are bonanzas and generally have a 'net pre-smelter' value of between $43 and $62 per ton. The statistically typical deposit is that which occupies the modal position, has 400,000 tons of ore, a value of $20 million and occurs with a frequency of 40%. A median deposit has 1.4 million tons of ore, a value of $70 million and occurs with a frequency of 15%. An upper-decile deposit ha s 13.3 million tons of ore. a value of $750 million and occurs with a frequency of 6.5%. The major, mid-upper-decile deposits have a minimum of 50 million tons of ore, a value of $3 billion and occur with a frequency of 4%. Five major volcanogenic deposits occur in the Precambrian and account for 54% of production. This contrasts with 55 deposits (all below the median) which account for 3.9% of production.

WHEN 1 was assigned by the Director of the United States Bureau of Mines to present a paper at this annual meeting of the Mining Society of Nova Scotia, 1 was grateful, honoured, and elated to realize finally a life-long desire to see your beautiful land and visit with you who have the good fortune to live and work here. Naturally, in preparing for this important event, 1 wanted to give you something of special interest within the limits of the subject so I chose an area dose to my heart -the operation of our Federal coal mine inspection service, which has, as its fundamental purpose, the prevention of accidents in and around ?Coal mines. In 1957 the United States had 10,879 active coal mines scattered throughout 28 States and the Territory of Alaska. The production of coal for the year was about 515,472,000 tons, including 2.5,472,000 tons of anthracite and 490,000,000 tons of bituminous coal and Hgnite. Anthracite is mined principally in a comparatively small area of one State. AU the 28 States and the Territory produce bituminons coal and/or lignite. The beds mined range from 18 inches to more than 100 feet in thickness and from the horizontal to the perpendicular.

The Division is concerned with physical methods as applied to geo-logical research and mapping. An at-tempt is made to describe long-term goals, illustrated by examples of projects in the fields of aeromagnetic interpretation, palaeomagnetic re-search, Pleistocene and groundwater geophysics, seismic surveying, electromagnetic research and instrument development. Cooperative projects in surveys and research, with universities, private companies and provincial organizations, are frequently undertaken. An outstanding example of this is the recently approved Federal-Provincial Aeromagnetic Survey Plan, the purpose of which is discussed both from an economic and a scientific point of view. AEROPROSPECTING may be defined as the application of the air view to the search for mineral deposits. The term is suggested as a preferable alternative to either aerial prospecting (which may be confused with areal prospecting) or air prospecting. The air view may be obtained by visual observation from an aircraft or by examination of air photographs; each has its particular advantages and disadvantages. Aeroprospecting should be regarded only as an aid to, and not as a substitute for, accepted prospecting methods ( l ). The Precambrian region north of Great Slave lake consists of two well defined physiographic units, a feature first noted by J. T. Wilson (2). The boundary between these lies close to the north shore of the east arm of the lake and extends northwesterly near Spencer, Beniah, Carp, and Ghost lakes (Figure 1). South and west of this line, exposed bed-rock makes up the greater part of the land area; eskers are very rare, and overburden is largely limited to rock-walled valleys and depressions. North and east of the line, outcrops are rare or absent, eskers are abundant, and most of the surface consists of drumlin-like drift hills, elongated parallel to the direction of ice movement (Figure 2). Where this boundary passes through the area shown in Figure 1, it lies near the 1,200-foot contour and may mark the maximum extent of the lake or sea arm present in this vicinity toward the end of the Pleistocene period. For convenience, the first area may be called the 'bed-rock belt' and the other the 'drift belt'.

This paper, the 1965 Airey Memorial Lecture, reviews the world-wide technical advances in iron and steelmaking, and offers an appraisal of the new techniques which will be applied in the future. After a review of blast furnace operations, the continuous steelmaking process is described, and the resulting techniques of degassing and continuous casting are discussed at length. Pressure pouring, hot rolling, cold rolling and coating practices are also outlined, and considerable space is devoted to the direct reduction process. Finally, the application of the computer to steelmaking operations is discussed in some detail.

"Vertical hydrocyclones are very common in most of the comminution circuits. Inclined cyclones are also found for specific mineral processing applications. In this work, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technique and experiments are used to find the reasons behind the inclinations effect on hydrocyclone performance characteristics. The water and silica slurry experiments are conducted with 75 mm hydrocyclone at different inclined positions (0-600) to the vertical plane. Corresponding two-phase numerical simulations are performed with Volume of Fluid (VOF) model coupled with Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence model. Multiphase simulations are carried out with Algebraic Slip Mixture model modified with lift, drag forces and Newtonian rheology model corrected with fines for various feed solids concentration. A raise in the under flow solids percentage, cut diameter and a reduction in the water split is observed with the inclination. Electrical Resistance Tomography (ERT) and High Speed Video (HSV) data is used to cross validate the inclined cyclone’s CFD air-core and solids concentration data. Predicted efficiency curves are found in a close agreement with experiments for all the inclinations. Comparison of experimental and predicted flow data clearly follows trend with the literature. Key words: Hydrocyclone, CFD, ERT, inclination, water splitINTRODUCTIONHydrocyclones are devices used to separate or classify particles based on particle size difference in the water medium. Their usage is very wide in chemical, petroleum, mineral and bio industries due to its structural simplicity, high throughput, small volume, low cost and maintenance. Cyclone mainly consists of a cylindrical section followed by a conical section attached to a single feed inlet and two product outlets named vortex finder and spigot. It works on the principle of centrifugal sedimentation. The slurry is fed tangentially to the hydrocyclone, in which larger particles are moved towards the wall and separated by centrifugal forces to the underflow. Smaller size particles follow liquid due to drag forces to the overflow. With its simple structure, the flow behavior inside the hydrocyclone is quite complex. Vertical cyclones are common in practice in most of the comminution circuits. Horizontal cyclones can be found in extreme cases which are for installation convenience rather than for process reasons. Inclined cyclones are also present for specific mineral processing applications. In coal preparation plants, dense medium cyclones are operated near to horizontal inclination of 20 degrees to allow large spigot sizes for sinks removal, self-drain of contents during shutdown. In the phosphate removal, dense medium cyclones are inclined with an angle between 0-90 degrees for better separation of ore and tailings (Liu Feng et al., 2006). Even in the clusters, hydrocyclones are mounted with an inclination around the feed distributor for uniform distribution of slurry and under flow collection. It is believed in mineral processing industry that inclined cyclones would fetch the benefit in number of ways while classifying the material by size. Gravity influences the cyclone performance through the air core size and position variations in large cyclones. It also favours the cyclone operation at coarser cut points without varying any other design and operating parameters. Minimizing fines misplacement to underflow can be achieved with inclination."

A brief description is given of the process used by Sherritt Gordon Mines Limited to recover cobalt metal from nickel-cobalt sulphides. A description of the equipment with the operating conditions is presented with an evaluation of the corrosion test results for various stainless steels and other acid resistant materials for the part of the process involving the sulphuric acid leaching of nickel-cobalt sulphide slurry under air pressure. SINCE 1954 the Sherritt Gordon ammonia leach process has been used at Fort Saskatchewan to recover nickel metal, copper sulphides and cobalt-nickel sulphides from nickel concentrate produced at Lynn Lake, Manitoba. 'To develop a process for recovering cobalt and nickel from the cobalt-nickel sulphides, studies were carried out in the Sherritt Gordon laboratory and pilot plant and, late in 1957, continuous acid leaching of sulphides was started in the refinery. We consider the elapsed production hours of Siemens Gearless Drives to be extensive enough to provide a reliable estimation of availability calculated on the basis of data representing repair time, downtime, and operating time. The users of Siemens Gearless Drives confirm an availability of more than 98% after exclusion of some major issues. The paper addresses all of these major issues of Siemens Gearless Drives, describes successfully applied corrective measures, explains the influences on the design of the drives, and lists the downtimes associated with each of these issues.

Introductory: In dealing with a topic so large, one that involves such a multiplicity of details, and that also has certain controversial aspects, it is quite impracticable within the limits of this article to touch upon many most interesting phases and incidents. Also, to bring out the actual truth, it is necessary to make certain categorical statements. The writer believes that all such statements made here-under are supported by facts. Again, however, it is out of the question to cite all the proof. The writer, therefore, will gladly answer any pertinent criticisms or questions and thus supplement the unavoidable brevity of this paper. Controversial points will take care of themselves. Historical: For present purposes the history of gold mining in Nova Scotia may best be summed up in a very few paragraphs, in some of which the writer quotes freely from recent reports compiled by himself. The first material discovery of gold was made in the year 1860. As this and rapidly succeeding discoveries were looked upon as bonanzas, the claims were fixed at a size of 20 by 50 feet, and a yearly rental of $20 was charged. Later the claims (areas) were increased in size to 50 by 150 feet. In the year 1866 a temporarily successful company, so we are informed by a contemporary writer, owned a mill and mining plant worth $6,000. As this fact is cited with admiration, it is apparent that most of the mining and milling must have been done in a very primitive manner indeed.

"Abstract- The Laochang mine, located in the Sanjiang area of southwestern Yunnan Province of China, is a volcanogenic massive Pb-Zn-Cu sulfide deposit. It is hosted by a pyroclastic sequence of Barly Carboniferous age, namely the lower member of the Yiliu Group, which was intruded by syenite and rhyolite porphyry . The volcanic suite is basaltic or basaltic-andesitic in composition, has alkaline affinities, and is associated with the initial rifting along the margin of the Baoshan-Shanstate continental rnicroplate (Yang, 1989). The ores are typically Pb>Zn>Cu in composition, averaging 3.820Jo Pb, 3.51% Zn, from 0.01% to 1.85% Cu (0.107% av.), a high average content of Ag (113 g/t) and recoverable amounts of Au, Tl, Gd, Ga, Ge, In. A massive sulflde zone, in which lenticular and stratiform orebodies are localized in a sulflde-carbonate-silica shale unit or sulfldic tufflte horizon that usually overlies coarse-grained pyroclastic rocks, is underlain by a stringer sulflde zone developed in a subvolcanic intrusion or volcanic sequence. The sulfide mineral assemblages, from the top to the bottom of the deposit, are: realgar + orpiment - galena + sphalerite + pyrite- chalcopyrite + pyrite + pyrrhotite + arsenopyrite. Oxide and sulfate minerais occur rarely in the massive ores. The massive ores are generally fine-grained and banded, but coarse-grained ore, colloform and framboidal texture, and growth-zoned pyrite and sphalerite are common. Sedimentary features such as graded bedding, brecciated and deformed ore clasts, and chaotically emplaced blocks, are well preserved, indicating that the massive orebodies have undergone slumping and dis­ placement. Alteration is weak in the hanging-wall rocks, but strong in the stringer zone. Two dis­ tinctive alteration zones have been identified: the upper zone, characterized by an assemblage of quartz, carbonates, chlorite, albite, zeolite and sericite, and the lower zone containing diopside, trema­ lite, actinolite, gamet, clinozoisite, and epidote.The general features of the Laochang deposit are in accord with the descriptive mode! of VMS deposits (Lydon, 1984). However, it falls into neither the Zn-Cu group nor the Zn-Pb-Cu group chemically (Franklin et al., 1981). The depositional setting of the Laochang deposit is quite different from Cyprus or Besshi-type massive sulfide deposits. Laochang is hosted by alkaline lavas that were erupted in a submarine continental rift. Although some features of the Laochang deposit are similar to those of Kuroko-type deposits, there are remarkable differences in the alteration mineral assemblage, the proportion of ore-forming elements (lead enriched) and the amounts of oxides and sulfates. These suggest corresponding differences in ore fluid composition and the associated ore-forming environment. Thus, the authors suggest that the Laochang deposit may be a distinct type of VMS deposit."
