Marginal detonation of explosives can produce more toxic fumes with higher nitrogen oxides (NOx) than normal detonation. In delay blasting, shock waves from borehole charge explosions can impact those delayed charges still remaining in the delay pattern. This can result in partial desensitization, whereupon the explosive does not misfire, but detonates in a weak unstable fashion releasing a different/unusual spectrum of gaseous reaction products.

A portion of a tailings impoundment may need to be removed with the expansion of an open-pit mine in northeastern Nevada. The tailings are saturated and consist of fine silty soil. During the removal of the tailings, they would have no support structure and vibrations induced by blasting in the pit could lead to slope failures.

The reformulation of military explosives and solid propellants into commercial explosives offers a unique solution to the problem of disposing of high energy materials with essentially zero environmental impact at a low cost and with a salable product. Studies using the insensitive PBX PBXN-4 have been completed through the pilot plant stage and have been successfully tested as a mining explosive. A number of other military explosives have been examined and their VODs and heats of explosions determined and in some instances tested in 'field" operations.

Ever since the introduction of Liquid oxygen explosives in India in 1927, these explosives are being extensively used in the various mining industries such as coal, ironore, limestone, bauxite, magnesite etc. The earlier LOX compositions were based on cellulosic material of Weberlox series of French origin. They contained the basic ingredients of saw dust with an admixture of cork dust, some hydrocarbons and some metallic powders. However, there were some inherent defects in the soaking characteristics of these compositions, in as much as, absorption and retention of liquid oxygen in the cartridges were not properly regulated in the fine pores and in the inter-granular spaces inside the ingredients in a uniform manner.

"This paper reports the clinical research work of Micro-explosion of Biliary Calculi . Considering the density of theblood vesselsiD the human liver, limitation of space in the h~patic.ducb, the securiey andadaptation, we have designed two types of micro- explosives equipment called ZS device,electric initiation and nonelectric initiation to initiate explosion. The head diameter of thedevice ie 1.5-1.8 mm . It is applicable to all kinds of fiber endoscope by inserting ZSdevice under grossing eyes or TV set ."

A massive millisecond blast at an open-pit mine of large scale can be realized by using the blasting technology of pre-loaded explosives, which can enlarge production scale, reduce the frequency of blasting and of large production equipment movement, and raise the production efficiency. The reason why application of this technology is restricted at high sulfide ore deposits of variable and complex geological conditions is that an exothermic reaction will take place when explosives contact sulfide ores, which could lead to accidents such as spontaneous burning and detonation of explosives pre-loaded in boreholes, influencing blasting and production safety. The thermal decomposition reactions of emulsion explosives of different prescriptions in contact with pyrite have been studied by differential thermal analysis (DTA), kinetics parameters calculation and accelerating rate calorimetry (ARC), and on the basis of the above studies, the safety of emulsion explosives used in sulfide mines has been evaluated with the safe contact time of different emulsion explosives with pyrite determined.

Description of Project: Tamar Group’s civil division was awarded a contract to implode the Sun Hotel, an abandoned 14-story building located along Bat Yam’s coastline, roughly two kilometers south of Tel Aviv, Israel. On Nov. 6, 2012, Tamar Group’s experts positioned explosives in strategic locations of the building, targeting its central pillars, which then caused the building to collapse within seconds. Tamar Group used a relatively small amount of explosives in order to generate a well-controlled blast. This is the largest scale demolition carried out in Israel to date.
