However, these opportunities are accompanied by significant risks, including resource nationalism, uncertain regulation, corruption, and continuing political instability (up to and including war). Forward-looking companies actively manage these risks by creating a sense of shared purpose with the countries and communities that own the resources, using tools such as stakeholder analysis, local narratives, scenario planning, and constituency engagement. They also measure socio-economic impact to insure the creation and demonstration of shared value.

"Reducing the amount of zinc and iron in lead concentrate is one of the important aspects of processing in lead and zinc flotation plants which results in improvement of lead concentrate quality and prevents zinc loss. In mineral flotation industries, lignin sulfonates are known for their depressant properties for both non-metallic and sulfide minerals such as pyrite and pyrrhotite.This paper investigates the effect of lignin sulfonate on flotation of galena, sphalerite and pyrite in sulfidic lead and zinc bearing ores. Batch flotation tests were carried out on a high pre-activated zinc samples. The feed contains 0.9% lead, 2.3% zinc and 7.5% iron. The dosage of all reagents such as sodium cyanide, zinc sulfate, ethyl xanthate and methyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC) were kept constant for lead flotation step except calcium lignin sulfonate (CLS) that was varied between 0 and 80 gr/ton.Results for lead rougher concentrate showed that the grade of lead increased by 2.7% while the recovery decreased around 4 % at the highest dosage of CLS. Furthermore, zinc recovery decreased by 6.3% with no significant change in grade. Iron recovery in lead rougher concentrate decreased by 2.3 % while the grade changed around 1%. In sphalerite flotation step, CLS dosage was changed in the range of 0 to 80 gr/ton while the dosage of other reagents such as copper sulfate, lime, amil xanthate and MIBC were kept constant. In this step, no decreasing in grade and recovery of zinc was observed, while iron recovery decreased. It was suggested that CLS has a depression effect on sphalerite in conjunction with other zinc depressants such as zinc sulfate and sodium cyanide. CLS was further used in plant with non-pre-activated zinc minerals. Similar trends were observed in plant.INTRODUCTIONlead-zinc sulfide minerals play an important role in the production of lead and zinc metals in the mineral processing industry (Luo, Feng et al. 2016). Due to complexity of the lead-zinc ores mineralogy, in some situations, their flotation properties vary significantly from one deposit to another one even in itself (Bulatovic 2007)."

"The research aimed at solving the problem of the stacked spent magnesia-chrome refractories using in non-ferrous metal smelters, which contain various heavy metals and are considered as a hazardous waste. The purpose of the research is to recycle the spent refractories environmentally and economically using gravity separation and flotation to obtain metal concentrates for smelting and using chloridizing volatilization to remove the trace metals from tailings, providing raw material to reprocess magnesia-chrome refractories. In the course of the study, laboratory techniques for the preparation of experimental samples of spent magnesia-chrome refractories were developed including the sequence of operations of material grinding, gravity separation, tails regrinding, flotation, filtration and subsequent unification of concentrates, filtration and chloridizing volatilization of tails, and collection of volatiles. Laboratory tests carried out on several types of samples of spent magnesia-chrome refractories from different smelters showed that gravity separation provided increase in quality of concentrates including about 80% metals (including Ag, Pb, Bi) and flotation separation provided increase in recovery of concentrates under the condition of 200g/t of emulsified kerosene, and 500g/t of combined collector. Based on combined technology of gravity and flotation separation, about 90% metals were recovered from the refractories by a closed-circuit test and the total concentrates contained 40% metals, which can be returned to smelting process as a feeding. Because a small amount of metal in raw materials will seriously affect the performance of refractories, chloridizing volatilization is necessary for removing the remaining 10% metals from tails mixed 8% coke and 13% magnesium chloride at a temperature of 1200°C. Thus, the tailings can be reused as a raw material for new refractories.INTRODUCTION Magnesia-chrome refractory has been used extensively in various industries such as secondary metallurgy, non-ferrous furnaces and cement making due to their high temperature stability, low thermal expansion and outstanding erosion-corrosion performance at high temperatures (Gotod et al., 2005; Vezza et al., 1997; Gregurek et al., 2015). Generally, the magnesia-chrome refractories are produced from a mixture of magnesia and massive variety of chrome ores. However, massive chrome ores are being depleted throughout the world. Even more serious is that the heavy metal chromium (Cr) can transfer into soil and water, which will have an influence on the survival and development of human beings (Zhao et al., 2006; Jiang et al., 2004; Qintie et al., 2013). As a result, regulations treating spent magnesia-chrome refractories as potentially hazardous waste are being enforced, making their disposal difficult and expensive."

"Recent batch experiments by the authors in a pilot scale ball mill (Ø = 0.6m) have demonstrated that a partial replacement of the ball charge by pebbles (25 % pebbles; 75 % steel balls) optimally reduces the ball and power consumption without altering the rate of production of fine material (passing 75 microns). At higher pebble volumes, the production rate of fines was reduced progressively. With the 25/75 composite charge a saving of 13 % in power consumption was achieved, and a saving of 25 % in steel ball consumption is implied. A partial replacement of steel balls by pebbles reduces the overall density of the grinding media in the charge. Taking into consideration that the production rate of fines is usually proportional to the bulk density of the charge in the mill, it would be expected that a composite charge (e.g. 25/75) would coarsen the grind and consequently reduce the rate of production of fines. Pebble wear contributes a small proportion of fines and it doesn’t provide a full explanation of why the 25/75 composite charge has no (or minimal) adverse effects on the rate of production of fines. Clearly, the production of fines across the mill is directly related to the shear and compressive power dissipation density. Accordingly, we hypothesise that the spatial power dissipation distribution meeting the minimum requirements for fines production— at the so-called active regions—are equivalent, or minimally comparable, for both the 25/75 composite and 100 % ball charge operating conditions. To test the hypothesis, we performed DEM simulations to analyse power dissipation in the active regions. 1. INTRODUCTION Comminution remains to be the most expensive process in mining operations, particularly because the energy consumed in this process accounts for 30-70 % of the total cost of a mining operation (Nadolski et al, 2014). Optimization of comminution circuits has been focussed on reducing capital and operating costs and maximising throughput capacity. For existing operations, it is often a challenge if the optimization process recommends retrofitting new ‘major’ equipment. The challenge arises from new capital cost and the difficulty of retrofitting in an existing circuit, while maintaining production (Major et al, 2001). Thus, for existing mining operations, optimization of comminution (cost and throughput) is often limited to operating conditions and/or addition of auxiliary equipment (such as pebble crushers, additional screens and high pressure grinding rolls (HPGR)) (McIvor and Greenwood, 1996; Hart et al, 2001; Powell et al, 2015b)."

China is rich in iron ore resources, but most of these ores are low-grade, polymetallic and refrac-tory ones. Furthermore, with the rapid development of chinese iron & steel industry, the comprehen-sive recovery of these ores is becoming more and more important. The tin, zinc-containing complex iron ores are typical polymetallic and intractable ones, and great reserves of them are found in China. At present, they have not been efficiently utilized. In this paper, based on the investigation of basic physicochemical properties of the tin, zinc-bearing iron concentrates, taken from a mineral processing plant, the mineralogy reason that these concentrates are so intractable and refractory is found out, using advanced microscopic testing methods, such as optical microscope (OM), Scanning Electronic Microscope (SEM), X-ray diffrac-tion (XRD), etc. It is found that the symbiotic relationship of iron, tin and zinc metallic minerals are very complicated, and magnetite in the concentrate is closely symbiotic or enwrapped by fine cassi-terite and sphalerite. So it is difficult to separate tin and zinc completely from the iron concentrates by simple regrinding and physical separation method. This investigation provides theoretical guid-ance for developing new approaches for utilizing these concentrates.

Russia is one of the largest manufacturers of potash fertilizers in the world. Processing of potash ores basically is carried out by a flotation way. Potash ores of the Verhnekamsky potash deposit contain sylvite (KCl), halite (NaCl) and water insoluble impurity (up to 8 %), presented silicate- carbonate minerals, easily slimed by ore crushing in rod mills. Ore of some deposit sites, developed by ?Uralkali? Co, contains a significant amount of a carnal-lite (KCl.MgCl2.6H2O). Work practice of flotation potash plants has shown, that increase of car-nallite content in ore leads to increase magnesium ion content in a circulated plant brine (saturated salt solution of potassium and sodium chlorides-sylvite brine) and to deterioration of indicators of ore processing. In the Paper we present results of researches of floatability of various size sylvite and influences silicate-carbonate slimes on sylvite flotation in brines with the various magnesium chloride content. It is established, that with increase magnesium chloride content in the brine mainly decreases the flotation of coarse sylvite and amplifies adverse effect of silicate-carbonate slimes on sylvite flotation. In this connection deterioration of potash ore flotation is caused not only decrease sylvite floatability but also strengthening adverse action of water insoluble impurity on potash flotation. It is shown that the application of frothing agents, which render the stronger dispersive action on the colloidal-micellar structures of amine in the salt solution increases the absorption of collector on the sylvite and improves the flotation of sylvite into magnesium the containing salt solutions. The application of an organic depressor to the greatest degree of decreasing the absorption amine on the slimes and to the smallest degree possessing anionic properties proves to be most effective with the flotation carnallite of the containing potassium ores. It is offered the application the frother on a basis of glycol ethers and organic depressor on a basis of urea-formaldehyde resin. Results of industrial tests developed reagent modes for flotation treatment of ores with the raised carnallite content (to 6 %) on ?Uralkali? Co plant have shown that their application has allowed to receive equivalent indicators potash flotations at change of magnesium chloride content in the brine from 0.7 % up to 2.4 % .

The status of fossil fuel and secondary resource in metallurgy industry in China were reviewed, and conversion efficiency of fossil fuel, utilization technologies of secondary energy were studied. Fossil fuel, accounting for over 90% of energy structure in metallurgy industry, took in the highest flight in China, and a great deal of which was converted to secondary energy through the equipment of blast furnace and coke oven. These secondary energy which were mostly made of blast furnace gas(BFG), coke oven gas(COG) and Lindz Donawitz gas(LDG) occupied about 30% of total secondary energy. The way enhancing fossil fuel conversion efficiency, secondary resource recovery and the secondary energy such as BFG, COG, LDG utilization promoted to save fossil fuel was discussed in this paper. And efficient use of lower caloric value fuel was studied, such as preheating combustion air and fuel, generating electricity power etc. and regeneration purposes of high-caloric fuel was also researched, for producing hydrogen, methanol or direct reduction iron etc. The using model of secondary energy at iron and steel works was presented as fuel and chemical materials. The results suggest that utilization of these energy efficiently and reasonably could help to energy saving and environment protecting.

Eddy current separators have become generally used in waste recycling industry during the last decade. There are many papers dealing with separation processes on eddy current separators, and also many article describes particle trajectory and different particle features affecting particle trajectory. These data are used in modeling as well. Within the frame of R&D project called ‚Fundamental research into the exploitation of the economic development potentials of critical raw materials in international co-operation - CriticEl?, authors are aimed for using Eddy Current Separator (ECS) as a mechanical separation step of high value critical elements recovery of selected WEEE’s like display panels, PCB’s. ECS, equipped with 305 mm wide belt, and a concentric magnetic rotor is used for experiments targeted development of methodology for determining separability of different particles on ECS. The subject of our work was to investigate the behavior of model particles with different shape, conductivity (aluminum and copper), orientation and size in order to separate Al and Cu according to the results of many experiments were carried out in this field. However it looks like that throwing distance of one particle is only possible to describe by a certain distribution for even the same particle within the frame of the same conditions. Sample mean and standard deviation are depending on some of the particle feature and acting forces. The paper is going to draft the first results on the relationship between distribution of throwing distance and particle properties.

In order to determine the optimal process parameters of agitation leaching and provide industrial process design parameters, experiments were carried out on leaching behaviors of copper oxide ore with high mud content. Condition tests show that the main factors affect the leaching efficiency as follows: Temperature, Initial acid concentration, leaching time and particle size. As the temperature increases, the copper leaching rate was increased. At 60 ?, the initial acid concentration 80g / L, leaching time 2h, liquid-solid ratio 2:1 and grinding fineness65%-0.074mm, the optimal copper extraction was 83.15%, the acid consumption was 187.91kg / t. ore. The paper presents the modeling and simulation experience in field of research into the mineral row material separation. Features of the subject domain generate a need of different approaches using for modeling and simulation. The general scheme of separation modeling process and some examples of developed simulators are presented. Due to different features and standards of knowledge, different formal models should be used to describe and analyze separation processes in the frame of general scheme. The main types of simulators are modeling tools based on statistical, analytical or expert (logical) methods. Advantages and disadvantages of each method above are mentioned in the paper. Based on the studies in the field considered, an aggregated mathematical model of a separation process has been generated. The aggregated model is presented by two combined equations. The actual apparatus model is formed by substitution of the particular functional expressions of the forces acting in the apparatus into the aggregated model. The developed simulation tools are based on integration of limited experimental data and on ex-pert knowledge available on separation processes. Simulation does not allow producing an optimal, in terms of mathematics, solution. But it gives an opportunity to produce and compare quite adequate solution variants in real time. The results obtained are the theoretical and methodological base for integrated information technologies to support studies in the field of mineral processing.

Since Schönert, 1980 a multiplicity of scientists have dedicated themselves intensively to the scientific investigation of wet grinding in agitated media mills. The achieved research results led to a clearly improved understanding of the comminution mechanism in wet operated agitated media mills and in consequence also to clearly more efficient machines. In contrast to this the standard of knowledge on dry grinding in agitated media mills is still very small. The practical experience from numerous plants shows however that the transferability of knowledge from wet grinding to the dry grinding regarding transport phenomena and comminution behaviour, influence of the operating parameters and also wear is very limited. In the industrial application above all the continuous mode of operation is preferred. The main problem which has to be solved in agitated media mills is minor the comminution itself, than rather the question of the trouble free material supply and material extraction as well as the cooling of the mill. The agitated media mill MaxxMill® offers an innovative concept to overcome the feeding and extraction problem with its rotating grinding chamber, the eccentrically mounted agitators as well as the eccentric flow deflector with integrated material supply. Because of the pneumatic extraction of the ground materi-al cooling of the milling chamber is not necessary. On a MaxxMill ® laboratory mill with a 5 litre grinding chamber volume extensive parameter studies were carried out to study the influence of operating parameters on the continuous dry grinding of quartz sand. The test were performed in a continuous single pass operation without classification of the final product. Apart from the influence of the throughput rate on fineness above all the influence of the agitator and grinding chamber speed as well as the grinding media size was examined.

Vanadium ore is widely distributed in black rock series (Fan, Zhang and Ye, 2004) in many provinces of China, which accounts for 87% (Zuo, Peng and Dugang, 2001) of vanadium reserves in China. In Cambrian black rock series in south Qinling Mountain, there are large or medium-sized sedimentary deposits such as Zhongcun vanadium deposit, Yinhua vanadium deposit, Qianjiaping vanadium deposit, Xiajiadian gold-vanadium deposit and Lengshuigou vanadium deposit. The vanadium is distributed in other minerals mainly in the form of isomorphic replacement. These types of ore are characterized by no independent vanadium mineral, low grade and vast reserves. Now in China the vanadium extraction technology is backward with low utilization rate of resources. The difficulties of vanadium extraction from black rock series are that the enrichment by means of mechanical beneficiation is difficult; the cost of direct chemical extraction is high and the emission of waste gas from pyrogenic process does not conform to environmental protection standard. Therefore the study of vanadium occurrence, the improvement & optimization of vanadium extraction technology and the realization of pollution-free and low-cost extraction of vanadium from black rock series are of great and realistic importance for environment-friendly exploitation & utilization of vanadium resource in China. The study is based on carbon content in ore of Cambrian black rock series in south Qinling Mountain. Two kinds of ore are selected. Vanadium ore with low carbon content (TC<1%) is taken as Sample 1 while vanadium ore with high carbon content (TC>10%) as Sample 2. Based on analysis of ore?s lithologic features and vanadium?s occurrence, a vanadium extraction technological process characterized by selective grinding, low cost and no pollution is proposed.

"Spherical grinding media (balls) are the most widely used media for comminution of ores by grinding. One way to optimize the grinding process in a tumbling mill is associated with the development and testing of a new media shape. By modelling simulation study of the behaviour of two types of grinding media (balls and tetraballpebs) in the grinding process was conducted to determine the possible advantages of the new media shape. Tetraballpebs are in the shape of tetrahedrons with spherical convex walls. D305 mm and L305 mm Bond ball mill sizes were used in the experiment. They are modelled milling tetraballpebs bodies corresponding by weight to five ball sizes, namely ¾, 7/8, 1, 1¼ and 1½ inches which form the grinding media used in a Bond ball mill. They are cast steel grinding bodies. Studies carried out with both types of grinding media include equal number of milling bodies of the same weight and volume. Having thus ensured a uniform mass of the grinding media and the same number of milling bodies, all other conditions and process parameters being identical, conclusions can be drawn about the influence of the grinding media shape on the grinding process. Compared to steel balls, the tetraballpebs used in laboratory tests carried out in closed cycle by Bond ball mill and the study of the rate of grinding gave five to six per cent higher yield of a control size of minus 0.1 mm. Measurements of the Bond ball mill power consumption demonstrated that tetraballpebs grinding media achieved energy saving of 4.7 per cent for the production of one gram of the control size of minus 0.1 mm."

The paper introduced bio-oxidation plants of refractory gold concentrate in China and CCGRI cultures. CCGRI cultures are composed of bacteria and archaea. Archaea Ferroplasma acidiphilum is very thick and fills whole mineral surface. It plays a more dominant role in CCGRI process. Several years of practice has proved that the operating temperature in bioreactors between 38~52?,gold recovery is almost same. Pulp concentration has been increased each year and reached to 25%.

Aluminum is produced by the Hall-Héroult process, which involves passing a current through a molten mixture of alumina dissolved in cryolite (Na3AlF6) to reduce the alumina to aluminum. This process occurs in an electrolytic cell comprising a steel shell lined with a carbon cathode and refractory bricks. After a certain period of operation, the carbon cathode deteriorates and is removed from the cell along with the refractory bricks. These removed materials are referred to as spent pot lining or ?SPL?. Typically, 30 Kg of SPL waste is generated for every ton of Aluminum produced. Globally aluminum smelters produce more than 500,000 tons of SPL each year. Even though SPL has a high fuel value (8000 to 9000 BTU/lb) and contains valuable metals, it is classified as a hazardous material due to its cyanide content and leachable fluorides. Various disposal/recycle techniques have been developed over the years for SPL but none of them is satisfactory. Thus, large quantities of SPL are still being dumped in landfills. In some countries, even the land filling of SPL is not permitted. The safe disposal of SPL thus remains a challenging problem to the aluminum industry and the search continues to find methods of converting SPL into a non-hazardous waste and/or recovering the valuable materials contained in the SPL. We have developed a process to produce hydraulic setting cements (eco-cement) containing a novel fluoride rich cementitious phase, from SPL by an energy efficient, low temperature clinkering route. A raw mix blend of SPL, lime/limestone, calcium sulfate and tailings sands based on a set of design criteria developed by us, is clinkered in a two stage process; 2 hours soak at 800 °C followed by clinkering at 1000 °C for another 2 hours, to produce a soft clinker. The SPL eco-cement is made by grinding the clinker to a fineness of 5000 cm2/g Blaine with 1% by weight borax as a set retarder. A good quality cement having as high as 20 % by weight of SPL in the raw mix (28 % by weight in the cement clinker) is thus produced. The physical properties of the SPL cements are found to be comparable to the Indian standard (IS) specifications for Ordinary Portland Cements (OPC). We have produced the cement in a few Kg batches and tested the reproducibility of results from batch to batch for further scale up. Bentonite is an excellent sealant mineral material because of its desirable swelling and self-healing characteristics, low permeability, sorptive qualities, and longevity in nature. A new type of water-swelling building sealant made from bentonite was studied in this paper. The building sealant is prepared by Na-base bentonite, vaseline and paraffin wax under different mass fraction of bentonite (which is 60%,65%,70% respectively). Under unrestricted state, some properties of samples were investigated. The volume expansion ratio at 24 h is 211%, 222%, 256% , and permeability coefficient is 2.86×10-8 cm/s, 4.15×10-8 cm/s and 4.78×10-8 cm/s respectively; low temperature flexibility of the sample (bentonite quality is 65%, 70% respectively) is good, and it does not flow heated for 2 h under 80?. The results of XRD and SEM indicate that bentonite is coated preferably by vaseline, and the spacing of layers of bentonite do not changed. The sample can keep full water swelling ability, and has good molding process. The test results prove that the properties of samples may reach the standard of building sealant.

Seawater can be considered as a particular process water with a high concentration of NaCl (about 0.5- 0.6 mole/L) and high concentration of hydrolyzing metal cations (mainly, Mg2+ and Ca2+ ions). Micro-flotation tests, induction time measurements, and zeta potential measurements have been used to investigate the effect of these ions on the natural floatability of molybdenite. The results demonstrate that molybdenite is strongly depressed in the alkaline pH range over which hydrolysis products of Mg2+ and Ca2+ ions are formed. At pH 10, colloidal magnesium hydroxide seems to be responsible for molybdenite depression in seawater and in Mg2+ solutions. This is also supported by the measurements of the effect of Mg2+ ions on the zeta potential of molybdenite. The mechanism of depression of molybdenite with Ca2+ ions is different, and depression takes place in the pH range were Ca(OH)+ complexes are formed, below the pH of precipitation of calcium hydroxide. Adsorption of the cationic hydroxy species and/or hetero-coagulation of the positive charged colloidal hydroxide on the negative charged molybdenite particles seem to be the main mechanisms involved.

There is a strong demand for nickel metal due to quick development of stainless steel and new electrical materials, most of which is extracted from sulfide resources, resulting in a serious depletion of sulfide resources. Therefore, more attentions have been paying to extracting nickel from nickel laterite, which accounts for some 50% of total nickel metal production. In this paper prereducing?magnetic separation?reduction smelting process is developed to manufacture ferronickel rom two types of nickel laterite DN and GN, assaying 1.42% 1.83% Ni and 49.09% 26.08%Fetotal, respectively. Mineralogy of two types of nickel laterite was determined and optimization of process parameters was conducted to manufacture ferronickel. Prereduction?magnetic concentration process is used to upgrade low grade nickel laterite firstly, two kinds of Ni-Fe concentrates being prepared of DN assaying 2.26% Ni and 69.45% Fetotal and GN containing 2.76% Ni and 38.00% Fetotal. Finally, two types of ferronickel were produced by reduction smelting of prereduced concentrates DN and GN, DN and GN ferronickel contains 2.97% Ni and 6.58%Ni, 89.25%Fetotal and 89.95%Fetotal, respectively. The total recoveries of Ni and Fe of the two ferronickel are beyond 90% and 80%, respectively. There is significant difference in grade of magnetic concentrates and ferronickel between DN and GN laterite due to their different mineralogy, the former belongs to limonitic laterite and the latter saponite one. There are some advantages for this process to manufacture ferronickel from nickel laterite, including effectively upgrading low grade nickel laterite by prereducing?magnetic separation technique, higher throughput and lower energy available for reduction smelting section due to some 40% gangue being rejected in pre-upgrading section, and much less metallurgical coke consumption by using non-coking coal as reductant for prereducing?magnetic separation?smelting process.

This paper aims to study the influence and action mechanism of collector Y-89 on the flotation of auriferous pyrite. The measurement to identify adsorption quantity, IR and XPS spectrum analysis and flotation experiment made on the pure mineral were conducted. The research results show that when the dosage of MIBC is 20 mg/L, and pH of 8, the dosage of Y-89 over 60 mg/L, the pyrite recovery rate is greater than 80%.And when the dosage of Y-89is 60 mg/L, dosage of MIBC 20 mg/L, the pH in a wider range (pH=4~9), the recovery is greater than 75%. When the pH is above 10, the pyrite is depressed and its recovery rate is found to be dramatically dropping. Adsorption quantity measurement also shows that the strong alkaline conditions inhibit the adsorption of Y-89 on the surface of auriferous pyrite. IR measurement indicates that chemisorption of Y-89 occurs on the surface of auriferous pyrite. XPS spectrum analysis indicates that without adding Y-89, oxidation reaction occurs on the surface of pyrite. But when Y-89 is added, the chemical environment of Fe on the surface of pyrite has changed. Such findings indicate that with Y-89, chemisorption occurs on the surface of auriferous pyrite.

This paper reports the results of a detailed mineralogical study of typical, low-grade Australian nickel laterite run-of-mine ores. Successful development of an effective beneficiation process for upgrading such low grade laterite ores relies on good knowledge of the laterite mineralogy and the value metal(s)? distribution characteristics. Both QEMSCAN and quantitative X-ray diffraction techniques were used to conduct the mineralogical analysis of three types of laterite ores, and the results were compared with those obtained by chemical analysis. Some of the major challenges faced included accounting for the mismatch between the nickel values measured by QEMSCAN and those recorded by chemical analysis. This was primarily due to the relatively low concentration of nickel in the ores and its wide dissemination among several major host minerals in complex association. Careful analysis showed that the limit of nickel detection in iron oxide host mineral grains under normal operating conditions was around 4%.
